The pharmacy in the town of Forks was of an ample size with several aisles and sold everything from make up to cold medicine and all things in between. Joey knew what she needed; a couple of lipsticks and mascara should work. This was the first time she had done anything like this, but right now it was what was needed to be done; she comforted herself with that.
Leaning her bicycle against the tree outside Joey pulled her coat further around her and pushed open the door to the pharmacy. A quaint little bell over the door jingled causing her to tense and squirm inside the over sized coat she wore for the occasion. The coat was her father’s, but it was what she needed right now; a prop. Closing the door to another jingle of bells Joey made her way towards the make up aisle. She’d never really been one for make up mainly because they never had the money for it and her face had no real need to be covered. Now the make up would just be another prop in this charade.
Slowly she walked up the left said of the aisle looking at all the colored boxes and various lotions promising everything from fresh skin to age defying properties. Reaching the top of the aisle she smiled at the man behind the counter and turned to walk down the right side. There was the mascara the aisle had a whole section of them; who knew? She picked one up and looked it over, before replacing it and picking up another. Joey found herself repeating this action several times pretending to be choosing the right one. Finally she chose one. Picking up the pink and black box she read it slowly while glancing around and over her shoulders. The box slipped easily into her pocket, barely any weight at all. The lipsticks were easy after that. She took two; the shades didn’t matter as she simply slipped them into her pockets and headed to the door.
As Joey reached the door she heard the voice of the man behind the counter. “Miss would you empty your pockets please?” He asked. Maybe she had been careless taking two, she didn’t know what had happened she thought she was covered; she thought she’d been so careful.
Fighting back tears Joey closed her eyes and slowly turned around towards the man. Opening her eyes very slowly she saw the clerk. He had his arms folded and was looking at her with a mixture of anger and disgust. “I didn’t take anything sir.” Joey lied. She stolen so she couldn’t see how lying would make this any different or any worst. She hoped he’d think he was wrong and she would get to leave. She could almost see herself riding away from the store, though she knew she wouldn’t be proud of herself for any of this.
“The police have already been called. I know you took something, so just give me it.” He said unfolding his arms and holding out his hands. He was angry now, more then before and she squirmed a little under his glare.
“The police?” Was all Joey could think to say, all she could get out before her voice cracked. She wouldn’t let him see her cry so she fell quiet. Pushing her hands deeper in her pockets she stared down to the floor and decided to wait it out.

*Beeep beepbeep beeeeep* The radio of the squad car sounded off as dispatch sent out the call to Mya and Don's car. Mya reached over, flicking on the switch for the radio from the drivers side seat. She only needed a few more calls that she could drive to and she'd be finished with her certifcation in EVOC (Emeregency Vehicles Operators Course). Right now, driving lights and sirens to a call still required her to have a certified officer in the car to supervise, but once she finished her hours she would be able to ride alone if need be (which she was in no hurry to do, enjoying working side by side with Don).
"We have a 488 in progress at the pharmacy on Main Street. Suspect is being detained by store employees" The slightly breaking up voice of the dispatcher sounded over the radio.
Mya picked up the small hand held transmitter. "10-4, we're on our way" She said, putting down the radio. She looked over to Don. "Can we use the siren?" She asked hopefully, but knowing it wasn't likely since a petty theft wasn't anything major that needed to be raced to.

It felt normal to not hold her hand in the confines of their police vehicle, well it did up until they began dating a short time ago. Now it felt odd to not be holding her hand when sitting right next to her. But work, was not to be combined with play and he was slowly getting used to the term being repeated in his skull many times over. She was so beautiful he always wanted to stare, hold her hand, anything that permitted him to be close to her.
He listened to the radio of the squad car giving a simple nod and making a u-turn to head in the opposite direction. The rest Mya seemed too happy to handle, and Forks was so quiet he had to let the girl have her fun.
Donathan grinned when she asked if they could use the siren. If anything it meant that he could than speed down the abandoned roads, which was about as much adrenaline as he could get in this town. “If it will make you happy,” he said looking to the switch that would cause the sirens to blare. “You can do the honors,” he smiled and gave her a small nudge.
It was only moments later when they were parked in front of the small shop, the sirens had been cut off moments before. “You want to head this one?” he asked referring to the small case at hand. He needed to let her have some things to be lead on, the difficult situations were more his thing. He trailed behind the officer slightly to the left of her, his burly figure towering over her and the small shop owner that was leading them to the back.

Mya’s face completely lit up when Don agreed to let her use the sirens for this call. She knew that no other officer would have let her, and loved that Don was so willing to do it to make her happy. She leaned over to flick on the switch for the siren and gave him a kiss on the cheek as she did so. “Thanks Don” She said sweetly before sitting back as the adrenaline poured through her.
It didn’t take long before they had reached the pharmacy and the car was parked. She raised her eyebrows a bit surprised as Don eagerly handed over the case to her to take lead on, despite him being the experienced officer. “Yeah! I’d love to!” She said beaming, at the responsibility she was being given.
She got out of the car and headed into the store, feeling as if she had just grown an extra foot in height between being allowed to run the sirens and then taking lead on the case. The petite girl definitely gave off the aura of a strong woman. She didn’t even know when she got there if the suspect was male or female but she wasn’t worried. She was trained by the academy to subdue someone 3 times her size, plus she always had Don as backup and she knew he wouldn’t let anyone hurt her.
She went up to manager and got the information about what had happened before going over to the young woman who they had said took the merchandise. “I’m Officer Foxe, do you want to tell me your version of what happened?”

Sitting there in the back room of the store waiting was like waiting for an execution, it was worst then the nerves of committing the actual crime. Joey had lost count how long she’d been waiting as she concentrated on the lint falling through the air in the mall backroom. After hearing the bell above the door jingle again Joey then listened to the hushed voices of the Manager and a female.
Sat up right in the chair Joey hung her head to her chest as someone approached her, it was only when the person spoke that she looked up at the female voice and quickly dropped her head again.. A cop, the manager hadn’t been joking when he said he’d called them. Joey’s blood ran cold and she realized the real trouble she was in. She wouldn’t cry, Joey was sure of that, and she wouldn’t confess; there had to be someway out of this without everyone finding out her secret.
Looking up at the officer once more Joey took a deep breath and spoke in a scratchy voice that was hiding her tears. “I just forgot to pay. I have a lot going on in my head at the moment and I just forgot.” She shrugged as she finished her sentence. What else could she do? Joey knew she couldn’t offer to pay; she didn’t have any money. She wouldn’t tell the truth; that would be humiliating and soon after the whole town would know. No, Joey would bend the truth. She had forgotten, forgotten that she didn’t have the money to pay was closer to the truth.

Donathan bowed his head to the owner and stopped short a few feet away from where the young woman accused was sitting. He crossed both wrists in front of his large frame, his left palm placed over the back of his right hand. He maintained his position as Mya confronted her. He had to admit, the girl in question didn’t seem the stealing type, and she fit no profile. But it was a perfect case to let Mya take the reins on, she needed some exposure, and though he truly believed she could handle more, it was a great starting point.
He almost felt bad for the girl. She looked like she was about to approach the electric chair. Her head hung low, he wondered silently if she would cry. He hated seeing women cry, it always made him a little softer, when he was out of uniform of course. When he had cuffs ready in his back pocket, his demeanor was all business.
Donathan looked from the girl to Mya, this didn’t seem suitable a case for anyone but a mall cop. All the owner had to do was just take the money and offer a warning, or tell her to put the items back, easy as that. He fought to keep his mouth shut, barely worthy of being a case, he’d still offered to Mya as her own to lead. He cleared his throat and maintained the stance, wondering if Mya would see it the same way.

Mya could see how scared the woman looked when she had walked over. She felt bad for her especially after listening to her story, not because she believed her (since it obviously sounded like a lie, and a bad excuse for stealing at that) but because she saw how upset it made the girl. This wasn’t someone who was a repeat offender who got a thrill from stealing, there was more to it, even if she wouldn’t know what. Mya’s demeaner softened a little, not quite as anxious to throw the book at her, but knowing that she still had to do her job. The woman hadn’t forgotten to pay, but she seemed remorseful.
“I see…” Mya said softly, looking down at the notes that she had taken from the store owner. He was being stern and was insisting on pressing charges. There was only so much that Mya could do to make this easier for her. “Do you still have any of the merchandise on you? Or any weapons?” She said, needing to ask, though she doubted she’d get a yes to either question.
“We’re going to have to take you to the station…the owner is pressing charges”

Lie after lie had spilled out of Joey’s mouth as she spoke to the young officer. Everything she had said and done in the past hour had not been her, for Joey it had been like watching someone else do it all be it someone who looked identical to her. Funny how things can change in an instant, because now sat in front of the officer she was certainly back to herself; scared, timid and remorseful. When the larger, burlier male officer had cleared his throat Joey knew it was far worst then she would have thought this could get. In truth that was the point, she hadn’t thought this out. Her grandfather needed the medicine and she knew store credit would help get that; thought process over.
“I handed it over just two lipsticks and mascara; that’s all.” Joey told the woman in a quiet voice with her head down, she was thoroughly ashamed of herself right then. “And I don’t own any weapons or carry them.” Weapons? She really was in trouble.
As her punishment accelerated to charges Joey knew she needed to think of a way out of this. Her parents could never know, but she had no one else. Noah would fire her if he knew; who wanted a thief working for them? Who could she ask for help?
Rayn. He was the first name to cross her mind and the only name that offered her any hope in this situation. “Please, don’t call my parents.” Joey said looking up at the officers. She wasn’t a minor, but in a small town like Forks Parents were bound to be involved.. “That’s all I ask. I can apologize and do anything for the owner, but please don’t call my parents.” Joey would rather face Rayn then her parents, and as much as she hated it, his name might get her out of this without charges. Had it really come to name dropping?

Mya nodded as the woman told her that she had handed over everything that she had taken and that she didn't have any weapons. "I will still need you to empty your pockets" She informed the girl, trying not to be too harsh about it, believing what she was saying was true. Mya felt a little self conscious in front of Don. She wanted him to be impressed by her work but was afraid she was going to end up coming off too soft.
When the woman asked her not to call her parents Mya looked back at her partner for a moment before looking back to her. "How old are you?" She asked her, knowing if she lied when they got to the station to book her they'd see the truth in her lisence. "If you're a minor we're required to call your parents or guardians but if you're over 18 we don't have to get them involved in this"

After been caught shoplifting Joey realized it was time to be honest with the officer, she was truthful about the few things she’d taken and not dangerous enough to be carrying weapons. Emptying her pockets would take mere minutes, there was little she carried with her. She didn’t own a cell phone, had no money to speak of and only carried a pencil and notepad which she pulled out her pockets and showed the officer. “That’s all I have, honest.” Joey said trying hard to make eye contact with the other woman as a show of honesty, but the eye contact only made her feel more guilty for what she’d done.
The last thing Joey wanted was her parents been called and having to collect her from the police station. Her father would most likely be drunk and her mother would be angry about the interruption, but more then both those things would be the embarrassment she’d cause and feel. “I’m 20, so please don’t call them. They don’t need to know.” Joey said not going into details about her reason for the crime or the reason for not wanting her parents called. “I’d prefer to do this on my own.” Joey said dropping her head completely to her chest as she stared at the floor.
“Will I have to stay overnight?” It was a muttered question that she asked without looking up again. She knew if she had to stay she would have to call them and lie to them, but other then that she had no intention of calling her parents. She didn’t want anyone to know.

Don only nodded his head when his partner looked back at him. It was only for a moment, and the case was puny to say the least. But she was no doubt handling it well, as he knew she would. He only needed to keep from smiling at the thought of how lucky he was to have someone like her. He must have done something right for such a gift. The man looked to the ground for a moment to recollect his thoughts, before looking up once more, his eyes falling on the defenseless girl before them.
The man watched as she turned out her pockets, noting rather quickly that she didn’t seem to own a wallet. Nor did she have any money in her possession at the moment, which raised questions toward her fib of forgetting to pay. But, he’d already known that was a lie, he could see it in her…almost feel it. It seemed a gift he’d gotten from being overseas for so long and constantly calling into question the intentions of all those around him. Friend or foe, loyal or shady, he was usually dead on.
Donathan licked his lips, his brow rising and falling as he wondered inwardly why this girl seemed to fear her parents so much. He felt a twinge of anger, as he hoped her home life was no reflection upon her current activities. Was she being beaten?

Mya watched as the girl pulled out a few items from her pockets, it was nothing that a hardened criminal would carry around, that was for sure. Mya felt guilty for even asking her to do it after seeing the result but knew it was procedure. "Thank you, you can put it away" She told her, appreciating her cooperation.
Mya nodded as the girl mentioned her age. She was old enough they wouldnt have to worry about parental involvement. It was easier that way. "They dont have to know unless you want them to. You'll still get a call when we get to the station if you want someone else with you"
The girls next question was a good one, Mya racked her brain through procedures and protocols but not having the experience she didnt know once the processing was done how long the girl would be staying at the station. She looked at her pad of notes for a moment, not because she needed to refer to them but just because she knew she had messed up and hated looking incompetent in front of Don. "They can tell you more once we get you processed"

Emptying her pockets only added to the feeling of humiliation Joey had. There was so little in her pockets, it really didn’t add up to much. Joey also realized they’d catch her lie; how could she pay when she clearly had no money.
Slowly putting her things back into her pockets Joey stole a glance at the two cops, both perfectly cast to play good cop bad cop her only hope was they wouldn’t feel the need to. The male was so big, even quiet as he had been Joey was scared. The girl seemed friendlier, if a cop could be when arresting you, but Joey was still worried.
“I don’t want my parents involved!” Joey said quickly as soon as the option to keep them out of it was offered. She knew she’d never hear the end of it if she called them. There was only one person she could think to call; Rayn. She was surprised how quickly her mind seemed to focus in on calling him even though they’d only known each other a short time. “I know who I’ll call, but not my parents they’re busy. My granddad is sick.” She said not looking for sympathy, but wanting to explain.
Processed. The word scared Joey like the whole incident was scaring her. She honestly thought in a town like Forks she would have just got a slap on the wrists if she was caught at all, now she was facing time in a cell and an embarrassing phone call to whoever she called. “Do I really have to go to Jail? I promise I didn’t mean to and I wont do it again.” She stammered saying more words then she had through the whole thing.
