Caleb’s own husky laughter joined in with Jayden’s as he watched her reaction to his careful speech about ice cream. Really it was a load of nonsense some ice cream vendor gave him, which he had read carefully about twenty times whilst trying to avoid the gaze of Lauren Mallory the previous summer. It had been a risky manoeuvre to mention it, but for some reason he hadn’t been thinking to impress when it had emerged from his mouth, and, thankfully, she seemed to have accepted the comment in good grace. She was sweet, but he couldn’t forgive that retort to his own comment. His good natured expression twisted into a superior smirk.
“Oh fair maiden, that’s only your tiny brain not letting you see the mistakes you’re making – it’s universally known that women are the cruddy drivers of the sexes,” he teased remorselessly, though his smirk opened out to a smile as he spoke. “Good. In that case we can go now. I suddenly have an urge to show you what I can do!”
His warm, brown eyes flicked down, attracted by the sudden spurt of movement that left it palm up in midair. They flicked back up to her face again, a quizzical look in them and a challenging expression on his face. Without another thought, he reached out with his own hand and gripped at her small one, pulling her around to exit the shop. He knew that he was being very forward just now, but if she couldn’t take it he would be sure to let her go – he didn’t want to give her the impression that he was abducting her – he was just being enthusiastic. He inclined his head towards her as he pulled her towards the exit.
“Ah come on, you know you want to put your life in my hands – impulsive risk taker, remember? Live a little – plus, I’m very, very strong,” he laughed and winked at her. “Oh… and mint choc chip, by the way. The vendor didn’t have it when I learnt that little gem of information, though.”

The teasing made her laugh and smile even more. If only he knew just how far of the true her was. With her vampire genes her reaction time would be a lot quicker then any human could ever be. Yet Jayden smiled and nodded to Caleb as she gracefully accepted the teasing and the name he called her. She couldn’t help but be intrigued by what he was going to show her,
Allowing herself to be lead or pulled was a feeling very alien to Jayden, yet she was having real trouble making her feel turn or stop. In truth she wasn’t really sure she minded been lead by this man. Her hand in his felt tingly and she wondered if he aware of the slight temperature differences her hand, and whole body, had to his. Jayden knew she wasn’t as cold to the touch as her father or other vampires but she knew she was colder then humans. She glanced at his face as he was pulling her to the door, but it seemed no less carefree and teasing then before. That was a relief and Jayden relaxed into the feeling of been lead.
“Mint choc Chip? Doesn’t sound like a tough, strong, good driving kind of flavor.” Jayden said as he pulled her outside in to the still drizzling weather. “Maybe I should wait for a Rocky Road guy?” She smiled to him.
The air was still chilled not that it bothered her but she could feel the warmth of his hand fading a little with the cold. Jayden wondered if she should let go of his hand, but a part of her didn’t want to. That was the same part of her that had been so forward and open in the store. And it was probably the part of her that was going to get her into trouble one day, but in truth she wasn’t sure right then how much she should worry; it was only an afternoon outing with a boy. A human boy; the vampire side of her seemed to cry out.
Shaking her head a little she ignore it, she looked again at Caleb; in the natural light outside he was almost more handsome. Without letting go of his hand she glanced around the parking lot. “So then Mr. Amazing Driver, where’s your car? I mean it must be an amazingly uncruddy.” She laughed to him, “And I hope your care has GPS it’s universally known that males are truly hopeless with directions.” She tilted her head to one side and smiled as innocently as she could.

As Caleb’s hand grew accustomed and moulded to fit Jayden’s all the more snugly, he was vaguely aware of the slight chill in her fingers. It didn’t register beyond that, though, he just held it a little tighter, subconsciously trying to warm her. He turned his head with a smirk on it, amusement flashing in his deep brown eyes as she questioned his choice in ice cream flavours.
“Oh really? That doesn’t impress you?” his eyebrows raised and he shifted his pace so that they walked together now, still hand in hand, though he was beginning to wonder if she was beginning to feel uncomfortable with the grasp. While he did want her to get the impression that he liked her, he didn’t want to damage his chances by being too forward, though it did feel surprisingly natural for him to hold her there at his side. Odd, really, considering that she looked something like a fiery angel, whereas he was just… him. “You don’t like the cool and sweet kind of guy? Fine, fine; though I wouldn’t go for rocky road – not if you’re planning to use him for the long haul. Hmm… how about if I told you that my favourite concoction was black cherry and dark rum? It’s not like that’s a flavour your get an analysis for, so you’ll have to figure that one out for yourself…”
Okay, so he was now officially talking out of his ass, but it amused him, and he could only hope that it was amusing her too. He laughed a little and winked at her in an overtly cheesy manner. Wow, he was tempted to take her hand again, feel the funny tingles that he could only assume were caused by the slight chill. Poor girl, she clearly needed a good work out to get her circulation flowing… and he would only be too happy to provide it for her. Now it was his turn to shake his head slightly, trying to dislodge such charged thoughts from his brain. Really, he was terrible. It was difficult to stop the heated desires from overpowering his entire brain when he looked down at her again, though.
“You’d better believe it!” he exclaimed, a knowing smirk gracing his features. He loved his ‘stang, and he hadn’t found another being that hated it, though, granted, it was old. Then again, with the exception of those Cullen kids, whose car wasn’t twenty years old around here? He stopped suddenly, now so comfortable with her hand in his that he had forgotten it was there, and turned to look at her with assessing eyes. He made a show of looking her up and down, a slight wrinkle puckering his brow as he concentrated. “Ooh, sorry, I just had to make sure you were good enough for the passenger seat… she’s picky, y’see.”
He flashed her a cheeky grin and let her hand go as he gestured towards his car sat next to some truck in the parking lot. After another moment he wandered forward, opening up the passenger side for her, holding the door open for her to enter, an incredibly innocent look now on his face. “We’ll give it a try, we can always walk if she has a problem, and that’s what women are for, right, directions?”

A smile crept on to Jayden’s face as she heard him open up about his own favorite flavored ice cream; she made a mental note to try it sometime. “Maybe rocky road is the perfect contrast to my vanilla?” She smiled at him, “As for your choice, sounds dark and mysterious. I mean alcohol and ice cream, very bad boy.” She laughed squeezing his hand gently and careful not to use any of her addiction strength.
Caleb let go of her hand as they approached a mustang parked next to the truck Jayden had noticed earlier when she arrived at the store. The truck had been alone earlier, but now dwarfed the car next to it. Jayden’s hand felt empty and she glanced down at it for a second before letting her attention to be drawn to the car. As far as she saw cars this was a nice one and she looked over its roof at her own little bug parked a few spaces away. Getting in a car with a stranger posed no problem or threat for her, but she did feel a little odd leaving her car parked here, alone. She laughed of the notion and looked at Caleb as he looked her up and down. “Well if I’m no good enough for your car, then you will never get to ride in mine.” She smiled nodding to the blue bug, “See she’s not just picky, as you put it, she’s down right elitist.” She smiled pushing her hair behind her ear before slipping into the passenger seat as he spoke.
Holding her retort till Caleb took his place in the driver’s seat Jayden looked around the car, it was clean obviously well cared for and unlike the stereo type of men’s cars she noticed it didn’t smell too bad either. “Directions? That what women are for, is it? Well I could direct you anywhere.” She smiled in her honest joke. Direction and a sense of direction was just another perk to been half vampire, a good sense of smell helped there too. “But I’ll leave it to you to get us too the climbing wall. After all this was your idea, I’m just along for the company and to get to know you.” She smiled at him as she secured her seat belt and settled down for the ride.
The silence was comfortable for a few minutes as Jayden watched the scenery fly by. “Perhaps afterward you’ll share you dark, bad boy flavor with me?” She asked with a half smile as she bit her lip, “And I can try to tame your bad boy tastes with vanilla?” Jayden was not used to been this forward, it had been many years since she had flirted and never with a human.

Caleb laughed, his eyes crinkling with amusement as the auburn haired beauty continued the pattern of retort and rebuff, coming back with something extra for him to think about. He could already tell that she wouldn’t be walked all over, that she was ripe for good fun and that she complemented him so well. Even he couldn’t stop a small intake of breath as he felt the subtle change in pressure on his hand. Did he imagine that, or did she just squeeze his hand? He knew he shouldn’t put too much stock into the little action, but he was a man, he only had so much control over his anatomical reactions.
“Very bad,” he echoed, but he followed it up with a smirk and a wink, hoping not to sound at all threatening, but he knew that girls liked a bit of a rough edge. To be honest, to this date, he hadn’t done much in the way of ‘bad’, in fact, this was his maiden voyage into ‘bad land’, but still… He tilted his head down towards her, giving her an intense look. “But I’m sure it’s nothing you can’t handle.”
He stood back away from his car, allowing the woman to take a good look at the car as he bragged about its good taste to her. He laughed at the come back she threw back at him about her own car and he raised his eyebrows, shading his eyes with one hand as he glanced at the Bug. It wasn’t the swankiest of cars he had ever seen, but, oddly, it sort of suited her. What car could possibly match up to her beauty anyway? She would put a Ferrari to shame, and there was nothing else as fiery enough to contain her. No, her choice of car seemed effortless – much like a perfect car would be diminished by its driver’s beauty, so the bug was enhanced by her effortless grace.
“Oh don’t you worry,” he said, with a smooth confidence as he crooked his elbow as if for her to take it. “You will find me to be the perfect gentleman.”
That wasn’t one that he could keep up for long, though, and he burst into another round of husky laughter, which carried on into the car as she once again matched his wit in tone and in its rapid execution. He glanced at her as he started up the car, flashing her a brief smile before concentrating on the road. “And just where would you like to lead me, Jayden?”
As she mentioned that her real motive was to get to know him, however, the showman’s smirk became more natural, genuinely excited to hear what she had to say and what she wanted to know about him. Then the silence fell with the hum of the engine, noticeably louder than a newer Mustang, but it was part of its character, not a fault. He smiled in response to Jayden’s forward question, his heart stuttering a little in response as his pulse rate hiked in a low burning excitement. He already wanted to spend more time with this strange girl that had just wandered into his life.
“Oh, you can try to tame me,” he told her, moving his head to glance at her as he drove. He hoped she was being serious – a problem of beginning a relationship on a joke. “You might not succeed, but I will let my flavour corrupt you at the drop of a hat. It’s a date.”

Jayden was at a loss, and wondered how bad Caleb could be. Despite her age Jayden had little experience with men, human or otherwise. The smirk and the wink Caleb followed his comment with made Jayden smile and she gave a silent half laugh while she bit on her bottom lip in an effort to seem innocent. However bad he maybe he had a flirty sound to balance it out, though Jayden found herself more intrigued by his bad side. “Maybe I have a bad side….” Jayden let the comment hang between them for a second before she winked herself and added, “Then we can be bad together.” She smiled and laughed innocently.
Looking over Caleb’s car Jayden noticed it was an older car, but well taken care of; his baby, no doubt. It was certainly a guy’s car. Gesturing towards her own car she wondered what it said about her. It certainly wasn’t flashy or fast like the Cullen’s cars, but it was hers and she liked it. Caleb said little about little about her Bug and Jayden shrugged, the smile never leaving her face.
With the confidence in his voice and the effortless crook of his elbow Jayden fought back the laugh, he almost genuinely looked like a perfect gentleman, but there was still the bad boy in his speech. Reaching up Jayden slipped her arm into his elbow and smiled “Perfect gentleman, huh? Though act?” She asked, “Well if you’re been a gentleman then I’ll try to be a lady.” Slipping her hand out of the embrace of his elbow she laughed.
Jayden’s chime like laughter echoed Caleb’s husky tones as she slipped into the passenger seat only dying down as the engine roared to life with a perfect, if loud, hum. Her name on his lips sent s shiver down her spine and she was sure her heart picked up its beat. Where was she leading him? Nothing could come of all this, surely. She was dangerous even if she didn’t feed from humans it was still an instinct of hers and her species.
Looking over at his profile lit by the light behind him and the fast moving scenery Jayden wondered where all this could possibly lead. “Maybe I’ll let you do the leading, I’ll just make the suggestions.” She said with a smile. Listening to the hum of the car, Jayden almost missed his increase in heart rate. Nerves? If it was, then Jayden was glad she wasn’t the only one nervous about this whole encounter.
“Why would u want to tame you?” She asked, “Everyone know the wilder animals are always better to watch.” She smiled and laughed knowing if anyone was wild it was her, even if her diet tamed her a little.
A date? The idea made Jayden happy and nervous and again she asked herself what could come of this. “Corrupt me? You think I’m that corruptible?” She asked, “Is this a date?” She wondered out loud without thinking.

Caleb’s dark eyes swept up to meet with Jayden’s golden ones as she mentioned that she may also have a bad side, his breath almost catching in his throat with the sheer level of tension in those words. If she had a bad side then he wanted to discover it, be a part of it, live it. He found himself yearning to be a part of her life, yes, but more than that, he had never been so physically attracted to a person before in his life. He knew he had to pull back how much he was coming on to her as no decent girl would continue to give a guy leering at her the time of day, never mind agree to go on a date with him. And that innocent laugh at the end… what was she trying to do to him?
However, Caleb wasn’t one to back down from an exchange like this, so he placed a smirk on his face and raised one eyebrow. “Well any time you’re needing to let your bad side out… we can see if we’re evenly matched. It would be quite the… battle.” The smirk grew as he continued to talk, though one hand came up to twist one of his unruly locks of hair between his thumb and forefinger. If she took this well, then he wouldn’t have to jump to any great conclusion to call her his perfect woman.
The perpetual cocky smile on his face turned slightly more genuine and opened up as she took his elbow, as pleased with this contact as he was when she took his hand earlier. She had him sussed in a moment, though, and he grinned down at her, leaning his head low so that he was suddenly in close proximity to her hair. “How do you know me so well already?” he asked her with a quiet, personal laugh as he continued to lead them both forward. He sniffed a little. “Well I personally feel that we would make awesome gentry. Don’t you think, m’lady?”
As he drove, Caleb listened to Jay’s words with more than a passing interest, reading into them much more feeling than she probably meant. With each suggestive comment he wondered if this would lead somewhere. He knew that he already wanted to ask her out on a proper date, somewhere other than a climbing wall, and the way she was talking he hoped that she also felt a similar desire to see him again. He glanced sideways, his eyes dark with emotion that he knew he really shouldn’t show her so blatantly this soon into their relationship, though it was probably just an acquaintanceship at the moment. “Careful who you let lead you places, Jayden, you never know where you’ll end up. But, if it helps… I promise I won’t heal you too far astray.”
He winked at her and sat back in the driver’s seat, almost wishing that the short journey to the climbing wall was longer as he was enjoying the risqué banter between them. A broad half smile pulled at his face as she mentioned wild animals and he inhaled sharply, though quietly, his body responding to the sentiment with zest. “Well, if you want to see a wild animal at play, who am I to object? Just remember, if you want to see things get wild, then you have to be prepared to get a little dirty yourself.”
He winked at her and laughed, taking some of the dark innuendo out of his words, to make them a little more acceptable in a lady’s company, or so he hoped. He turned to face her for a second or two, his smouldering expression clearing for a few moments as she asked her final question. “We can’t have our first date at a climbing wall,” he said, confidently, far more confidently than he felt as he approached the crux of his aim for the day: to see her again. “But if you give me a real chance, I’ll whisk you away somewhere nice.”

Jayden wasn’t sure where this flirtatious side was coming from, it was so unlike her to be so forward and so teasing not that Caleb seemed to mind. This fascinating guy actually matched her comment for comment, so much so she found her smile growing with each comment.
“A battle of the bad sides. Sounds like a fun fight” She smiled at him as he twisted his hair around his thumb. Jayden watched the way his hair moved and wanted to touch it herself, run her fingers through it and tug on it. She resisted, setting her hands by her own body to stop herself. “I’ll keep it in mind when I’m ready to release my inner bad side.” She told him with sly smile.
Keeping her hands form his hair was one thing, she couldn’t help the fleeting touch on his elbow hoping he would notice the temperature or any force in the contact. As his head come closer to her hair she smiled and took a deep breath, it was a contented feeling having him so close. She could smell his scent, one she was committing to memory. “Maybe I know your type.” She said narrowing her eyes slightly as she looked at him with a smile. “I certainly do, sir.” She said curtsying playfully and nodding at him. My lady sounded so perfect and Jayden was almost lost in the make believe.
The more time she spent with this man, the braver she was becoming. More open and Jayden knew that could lead to trouble. A misplaced hand, a moment of lapse guard and it could all go wrong. Perhaps she didn’t crave his blood, but there were other risks. When Caleb looked at her she saw the dark desire in his eyes and she wondered if her eyes were showing the same darkness. “I think you have to worry about been lead astray, Caleb.” She smiled, “And you can lead me wherever you want. I’ll take the wheel if I have second thoughts.”
That wink did it, Jayden knew he was going to be trouble for her but she didn’t mind. Jayden wondered if this new her was to do with embracing a new side to her life, her human side. Human teenage girls were risky, right?
Everything he said had a double meaning and she wasn’t sure which way he was intending her to take it. “So we’re going to the zoo?” She asked with a flick of her head and a laughing smile, when it threatened to break into a laugh Jayden bit down lightly on her bottom lip and just smiled. “As for getting dirty, it all depends on what you have in mind. After all, I’m a lady. I might not like dirty.”
“So this isn’t our first date?” Jayden inquired shifting her weight so she was turned more towards him and watching him closely. If this wasn’t a date what was it? Jayden couldn’t help worrying he didn’t want to see her again. Then he spoke again and she smiled, he did want to see her again. “Well if you ask me on an official date, then I’ll officially think about it.” She smiled hoping it didn’t sound to stand offish or uninterested.

Caleb met Jay’s eye with a darkened look of his own, absorbing her sly smile and returning one just as private. To look at the pair of them now was not to see two strangers at a first meeting, perhaps hitting it off, it was to see a private moment and turn away. The impromptu passion of the moment almost made him shiver himself; it was a feeling that he had never had before. “Whenever you’re ready,” he told her, his eyes narrowing a little with intensity. “You just let me know.”
His curiosity was aroused even further (not that it had ever really been sated since he had first set eyes on her) as she insinuated that she knew his type. He wondered exactly what she thought of him now, what impression did she have? He knew that he was behaving slightly different than he usually did; more intense, more passionate – it was like she had the ability to concentrate his feelings and his desires which he had no choice but to unleash on her. He wondered if she knew what she was doing; she couldn’t be this good and ignorant of the fact.
“And if you so have me down to a type then please let me know, ‘cause I would really like to get to know myself better than my ice cream flavour,” he smiled at her, hoping she would take it as an invitation to get to know him better. He only had one big secret and that he could hide without complications. He knew he ought to feel bad about doing this to Katie, that he should feel bad at the prospect of doing this to Jayden, but both girls were so intriguing for entirely different reasons and he didn’t see a need to narrow his horizons just yet. Distracting himself from the guilt-inducing thoughts, he laughed at Jay’s response to his playful act of gentry.
“Oh really?” he asked the auburn haired woman next to him, his dark eyes sweeping to meet hers once more despite the obstruction of driving. He smiled at her with unrestrained attraction, showing flashes of teeth between his lips. “So much trust… maybe once I’ve led you my way then I’ll let you take the wheel… take us for a spin. If you’re lucky.”
He just laughed as Jay asked if they were going to the zoo, losing track of all the double and triple entendres being bandied about between them himself. He wondered if she would actually like to go somewhere like that; it wouldn’t be quite private enough for him, though. He smirked across at her and raised his voice in a slightly drawling manner, peering at her through partially slit brown eyes. “Oh, maybe not dirty, per se, your ladyship, but maybe a little hot…”
He shook his head firmly as she double checked as to whether this would be their first date, certain that he wanted to at least have a chance to think about what she would like rather than bring her along to something he was going to do anyway. Another flash of teeth showed through the grin that emerged in response to her coy assurance that she would think about any offer of a date. “I guess I’ll have to impress you while you’re here with me… Got any tips for what might make the answer a yes?”
