Jayden wandered casually up and down the various aisles in the Newton's Olympic Outfitters. She was awe struck by the amount of things around her. All she wanted was some walking boots and maybe a new backpack should she need to move on soon. Jayden still wasn’t truly settled in Forks, and even if she was she wasn’t admitting it to herself or anyone else. She had found a small house on the out skirts of the town, close to the woods. And was staying low until she decided what to do and had a good reason for been parent less at her ‘age’.
She rounded the end of another aisle and started down the out door cooking supplies. There was no reason for her to be down most of these aisles but it fascinated her, and she considered it another human exercise. Absent mindedly she picked up and camping stove and laughed; like anything she would eat in the woods would need this. She was replacing the stove when she heard the bell ding the main entrance to the store.
Jayden walked up the aisle a little further but watched the new comer closely. A little too closely; if not for her speed and grace she'd have knocked over the gas canisters for the cooking stoves. As it was they just banged together echoing greatly through the store.

Caleb Walker walked into Newton’s Olympic Outfitters with a rather vague notion of what he was in there for. He wore a rather ragged, holey pair of faded jeans, which had begun life as the sensible navy variety, but he did have the tendency to wear clothes to death. He also had on the obligatory raincoat, gleaming with droplets of water from outside. He pulled the zip down as soon as he was in the dry environment to reveal a black zip up sweater that hugged his bulky form. After a moment or two of deciding which section of the shop to go to, he went to stand down in the fitness section.
It was a pretty small section, unused by the majority of the Forks populace, but Caleb had recently frequented it with some vehemence. With the bit of money that he had begun to earn from the High School at the beginning of the year he had invested more into chiselling himself an appearance that he was truly happy with. He looked down at a set of small weights and picked them up to see the price. His nose wrinkled in response to what he saw. He was earning money now, which was a plus, but he wasn’t earning that much, plus he really wanted to move out of his parents’ house - maybe he would have to stick to the traditional hiking and press up approach.
He sighed a little and placed the coveted weights back down, walking down the next aisle, which housed even more coveted kayaks. He had never really done many water sports before - Forks tended to be rainy enough to dissuade most from actively trying to get wet. He ran his fingers over the prows of the little boats, not even bothering to check their price as he made his way to the main bit of the shop. Just as he reached the bottom of the aisle he stopped at the sound of metal hitting metal just a few metres away, his head automatically giving the sound his full attention. To his surprise, there stood a girl not a few metres away from him, and to his greater surprise, she was looking at him.
“You okay?” he asked, taking a couple of steps towards her. Those canisters tended to be heavy, it would have taken some force to knock them together so loudly. He smiled at her pleasantly, leaning his shoulder again the shelves.

Even before the echo of the bottles banging together had died down Jayden quickly began to move them, with ease, back into their places. She was concentrating on not been caught when she heard the voice from behind her. She jumped, this time careful not to knock the cans behind her, and turned. A step back made it easier for Jayden to look into the face the voice belonged too. She watched him leaning casually again the shelf. She heard the calm steady beat of his heart and briefly caught his scent. Definitely human, she deduced to herself. Realizing he had spoken to her self looked away from him for a second and looked back at the cans. She was still looking over her own shoulder when she spoke to him.
“Oh. Yes, fine thank you.” She said turning to smile at him. It was then she saw the handsome element of his features, they stunned her for a second as she merely looked at him. Jayden had never looked so intently at a human before, nor had she ever had cause too. Whether it was a change in the air conditioning or from an open window Jayden caught his scent again and caught herself. She tucked an imaginary strand of hair behind her left ear and smiled lightly.
“No, no. Fine.” She nodded. “Just not looking where I was going that was all. I put them back.” She explained smiling again but not turning away.

A quizzical look began to dawn upon Caleb’s features as the girl took longer than was average to answer his simple question. He began to wonder if she had dazed herself or something, though unless her brain was in her legs, that would be unlikely. He raised his eyebrows a little, noticing that she was looking at him quite intently and raised his free hand to pull at a strand of the messy nest of brown hair that topped his head just for something to do, so that he didn’t feel like a complete idiot. He nodded a little as she said she was fine and his grin widened, a short laugh bursting through his full lips as she described her clumsiness to him.
“Ah,” his brown eyes flicked down to the now immaculate lines of canisters and then moved back up to Jayden’s face, his brows raising, an impressed look on his face.
“You shifted them just then?” The question may have sounded quite obvious, but the things were heavy and he hadn’t even heard a grunt of exertion from her. Maybe they hadn’t moved that far… but then the volume of that clink suggested that she’d just about knocked them down. He flashed his teeth at her in a grin. “I usually see Newton in here grunting over them like a little…” he paused, realising what he was about to say and who he was about to say it to. He couldn’t do anything about it now, though, so he just shrugged in a slightly apologetic manner. “Girl.” He focused his attention on her properly now the girl, interested. She didn’t seem so muscles, fit, yes, but not overly muscled. She had a nice figure, actually, and as he widened his view, he also noticed the fieriness of her auburn hair, the warmth of her eyes. He inhaled, his smile kinking to create a small dimple in his left cheek.

Intently Jayden watched as he played with a lock of his dark hair, it was right then that Jayden realized she was staring at this stranger; quickly she looked away. She turned her attention back to the cooking equipment on the shelves. She wanted to look back at him and couldn’t resist just a quick glance. She let her eyes slowly wander back to look at him and saw his eyes flick to the gas canisters on the floor, neatly beside her. An involuntary smile crossed her lips as she saw the impressed look upon his face when he saw the canisters for him self. Jayden would never brag, nor would she ever test it, but she knew she was stronger then humans – physically at least.
Quickly she dropped her face to neutral as he asked if she had moved them, she was about to protest and make an excuse about their disarray. However, the way his next sentence fell from his mouth, obviously without thinking, Jayden couldn’t help but laugh.
“Oh, you mean how can a little girl like me do that?” She tried to look a little mad, but fail and smiled instead. “Of course I moved them by myself, very light actually.” Jayden teased and smiled again. She was finding it easy to be friendly to this human, despite the fact that a little voice inside of her told her not to. She ignored the logic in her head, something that had become a habit from the first knock on the Cullen’s door.
She glanced back at the canisters then back to the man and shrugged in return to his shrug. “Actually they barely moved, just knock together.” She lied with ease, the truth being that they all moved. “They just sounded loud because…well I think the ones in the middle might be empty. The hollow sound echoed.” She lacked the grace in her lies to back up the story but flashed him another smile in the hope that her charm might work.

With a raise of his thick eyebrows, Caleb widened his dark eyes at Jayden, before grinning at her awkward explanation. If he could think of a reason why, he would say she was lying, as it was, he couldn’t think of a single reason that she would lie about moving canisters, so he just decided that she was an awkward speaker. It was sweet, though, rather endearing, actually. His smile extended to his eyes, his nose wrinkling a little in amusement.
“Nah, I’m sure you’re just buff,” he told her, easily, a compliment clear in his rather husky, deep voice. Wow, he was glad he hadn’t met her just a few months ago, when he still sounded like some strange cross between a guy on helium and Barry White. He inhaled somewhat more sharply than usual as he saw the killer smile that she shot in his direction. His muscles automatically tensed and he rolled his shoulders a little, raising his hand to his hair once more. He pulled one side of his top lip in between his teeth as he grinned at her.
“So are you planning a big trip, then?”

Relaxing and slightly, Jayden lent back on her heels and put her hands in the back pockets of her jeans. His grin lit up his whole face and she couldn’t look away from him. His comment about her strength was magnified by the enchanting sound of his deep voice. She’d grown up listening to some of the most inhumanly beautiful vampire voices, but none compared to the husk of Caleb’s.
She pouted with a smiled and nodded her head to him in a bow, tearing her eyes away from him for just a second. When her head came back up, she let out a laugh that was as gentle as bells on a Christmas morning.
“A trip?” She questioned, lost for a moment. “Oh no no. I just need a new backpack and maybe some hiking shoes. Though I must admit seeing everything here is a definite temptation to head off into the woods for some camping or horse back riding. Maybe even some water sports.” She spoke with the openness she felt. She wanted to talk to this man about anything. “You going off on a trip somewhere?” she asked tilting her head to one side with genuine curiosity.

Again, Caleb was stunned by the seductive beauty of the auburn haired girl’s smile, and adding that pout just about sent his heart into overdrive. He thanked his lucky stars that he was the only that could hear the erratic beat that splayed beneath his ribcage and worked to keep the cool, confident expression on his face. At least she could take a compliment when it was meant, even in a joking manner. He knew a lot of people that claimed false modesty and there was nothing more irksome than trying to tell someone they’d done a good job when they refused point blank to accept it. Well, there were other more irksome things, but his mind was only creating positive connections with everything Jayden did that day.
“Ah, in which case you’re in the wrong section,” he told as if he was making a revelation. “And I should probably not give up the day job in favour of becoming a psychic or a detective.”
He grinned at her, his enthusiasm plainly showing on his face as she listed the various outdoor pursuits she would like to… pursue. He loved anything like that, the indoors always making him feel rather claustrophobic, and if he had the opportunity to accompany a fire-headed angel along the way it would increase his enjoyment tenfold. And hopefully hers as well. He shook his head quickly, to his own question bounced back at him.
“No. I’d love to, but…” he lingered on the sentence, awkwardly. “Well, other things to think about first. I was just looking at the weights.” He nodded his head down to the end of the aisle. “I like to browse this place - the best place in Forks. Well, except the woods, of course, they’re beautiful.”
He smiled at her, a gentler smile now that they were sharing interests. “But all those things - horseback riding, camping, kayaking - all of it. Well, I love. I guess you could call me an outdoor nut and I’ve just realised how rude I’m being,” his breath ran out at the end of his drawn on sentence. He extended his large, warm hand out to her. “I’m Caleb.”

Jayden let her laughter spill forth again as he openly joked with her about been lost In the store and career path. She found it easy to let down her guard with him, and not a single though in her mind told her guard herself form him. She watched him as spoke of the out doors and the things she enjoyed to do. Been with nature and away from civilization was the once way Jayden felt free to be herself, well until now.
She nodded as he listed his out door enjoyments and proclaimed himself an outdoor nut. “I prefer the outdoor life too.” Jayden confessed not wanting to interrupt his flow of thought.
When he spoke his name she smiled and played it over in her mind a couple of times as she reacted out instinctively and took his hand. “Jayden.” She smiled, “And I am sure we we’re both at fault in the matter of manners.” She nodded raising her eyebrows in a truly open smile.
“What things must you think of first?” She asked. Her curios mind taking control before logic and politeness took over. The words we’re out of her mouth, but still she felt the need to apologize. “Sorry, it is none of my business. Sometimes I speak before thinking. You don’t have to answer.” She told him he didn’t have to answer her, but she wanted him too. She wanted to know what he was thinking and what he put first.

Caleb allowed his own husky laugh to join in with the peel of bells that erupted from Jayden, his brown eyes twinkling with enthusiasm at their social interaction. His grin grew, flashing pearly teeth at her as she confessed to a love of the outdoors as well and a vision of possible dates flashed before his mind. That was getting a little ahead of himself, though, he knew that. He gripped Jayden’s fingers within his own as she extended her own hand in greeting. It was quite a lingering contact as he took in the slender and smooth appeal of her hand, so dainty, yet it felt strong. His own hand was large, warm, though not overwhelmingly so, though his fingers were rougher than the average, something he could do nothing about due to his outdoor living. He grinned at her once more, clearly delighted to be ’officially’ acquainted.
“Maybe we’ll get the opportunity to make up for it later,” he suggested, taking the chance that she might not be itching to get away from the stranger that he was. He knew he was being rather forward, but his new found confidence was relatively new to him, he wasn’t sure how long it would last and he was eager to impress the pretty girl. He laughed a little, a short but warm burst, as her curiosity got the better of her and he gave her a teasing look, wondering if he should make her work for it.
“Ah,” he uttered, shifting his position so that he was stood more upright, his eyes crinkling in good humour as he gave her his full attention. He laughed again and shook his head a little, realising he wanted to share with her more than he wanted to keep her waiting. “You’re fine, I’ll get you back. And mostly,” he shifted a little. “Trying to save up a little cash, fly the coop, get my own place. I just got a job, so I'm really trying to stop myself from just spending everything on pure pleasure. If I'm not going to college, then I'll have to try being 'responsible' instead.”
He stretched, attempting to distract from the fact that he still lived at home. “How about you, pretty little head like that, must have something fascinating going around it..” He winked at her cheekily, letting her know that he meant no disrespect.

Her already fast heartbeat kicked in to turbo as she touched his hand. His hand in hers felt strong and rough the way a man’s hands should be. She didn’t want to let go, but she knew it would seem awkward if she held on a moment longer then was socially acceptable. What that acceptable time was she wasn’t sure, but she did know she that she wasn’t in a rush to let go. However, she smiled politely and released his hand as he spoke of future plans.
“Later,” She smiled at him, but didn’t elaborate as he continued to answer her question about the priorities of things in his life. She listened and nodded as he spoke of moving out and a new job. She laughed and raised her eyes brows as he mentioned been responsible. Jayden hoped he would understand she wasn’t laughing at him but sympathizing with him. Been responsible was something she knew about, as well as living alone.
As Jayden watched his muscles stretch she couldn’t help but want to stare. His body was amazing though his clothing, appropriate for Forks weather, hide the definition. Yet she could still make out a toned physique and she smiled in spite of herself. Her smile was well place for his compliment to her. Biting her bottom lip she though what to tell him, what could she tell him about her thoughts?
“I think a lot of things. Though I’m not sure any could truely be considered fascinating.” She paused, “perhaps I could tell you about them some time. Maybe that later time you mentioned?” She tilted her head down and looked up at him through her eye lashes and the light wisps of hair that fell forward, a smile still played on her lips as she openly encourage further contact. This was unlike anything she had done before, yet she couldn’t stop herself.

For some reason that he couldn’t fathom, Caleb found himself hanging off Jayden’s words, fascinated by the shapes her lips made. Her gorgeous full lips twisting, stretching, pouting… he felt a shiver of excitement run down his spine, which he fought to hide from the fiery goddess. He looked down into her amber eyes, his own brown ones flashing hungrily, desirous. He couldn’t help it, he couldn’t think of a single other woman that had attracted him so forcefully. She was so stunningly beautiful, even at a glance, and there was something else that was overwhelmingly alluring, drawing him in.
A single stray thought travelled back to the girl he had met in the gym just a week ago, and a shudder of guilt interrupted the smouldering look he was giving her. This was wrong, he knew it, he should step away, go back the way he came and content himself with Katie. He was weak though, and the swirling feelings he was getting from Jayden were strong, so strong. Besides, a girl that beautiful wouldn’t be interested in him anyway. Maybe just now, novelty, but he wouldn’t hold her attention. Plus, if they didn’t meet… what harm could it do?
“You’re the most fascinating person I’ve met,” he told her, his voice once more gravely with laced with emotional suggestion. Even he realised he was laying it on thick, and whilst he wanted to impress the girl, he didn’t want to scare her away. “In a good long while. And you’ve not even told me anything yet. I would most definitely be interested getting to know you better. Oh hey!” his eyes lit up a bit, though he controlled his expression to not betray his excitement. “I’m going to the climbing centre in Port Angeles. I was supposed to be going with a bud, but he’s flaked out on me - some college thing - I don’t suppose you’d like to keep me company, would you? I could get you ice cream - my treat?”
His heart skittered erratically as he waited for her response and he gripped the shelf behind him. He didn’t think he could bare rejection, but he also half-expected it. So he stood in wait, in a turmoil of excitement and dejection. Very odd.

Still unsure of where this forwardness and confidence had come from Jayden was taken aback with Caleb’s comment about her fascination. It wasn’t a word she would use to describe herself, mysterious perhaps but not fascinating. In fact fascination was bad, it attracted attention; the one thing she needed to avoid. The fact that he admitted she had told him nothing didn’t settle her as it should Yet she couldn’t seem to worry the amazing sound of his voice as he spoke push all those thought away. She was drawn to his mouth as he spoke, almost as if she could see his voice; and it would have look amazing, that she knew. The emotion that accompanied his words was raw and tempting. Right then could have listened to him read the entirety of War and Peace, or agreed to follow him anywhere.
A second later that was just the offer she was about to accept. She heard the erratic beat of his heart and it comforted her to know that he appear as nervous at asking as she was at accepting. A physical pursuit with a human, surrounded by humans was perhaps not the best of ideas. There was no way Jayden would even think of refusing, of staying away from him. She looked up into his eyes and smiled.
“Oh I’m not fascinating.” She said deflecting the attention away. “And I have told you what you have asked.” She said cryptically, but with a smile of humor that reached up to her eyes. She pushed her hair away from her face and let her arms come to rest by her sides.
“Climbing? Wow that is a lot of trust to put in someone you just met. Though you did offer ice cream,” Jayden spoke the words with a smile of humor, but let them hang in the air as if thinking about it, in truth she had already decided to say yes and damn the consequences. Tilting her head back she shook her hair and laughed. “Ok. Sure. I would very much like to climb with you.” She smiled bring her eyes back down to meet his.
Jayden stepped carefully away from the gas canisters and stood in front of him. Her heart was racing so fast it threatened to jump from her chest, folding her arms across it was all she could do to keep it in. “So, your car or mine?” She smiled staring him straight in the eyes. She wasn't sure if he had a car or not, nor was she sure he would want to ride in her beat up car; this way it was his car. If anything happened she could always run, no matter whoes car they took
Her forwardness shocked her again and created a twinkle in her eyes as she looked right at him. He was amazingly handsome and she had trouble thinking clearly right now. Perhaps if she had been she would have back out. Though right now all she could think about was the prospect of spending the rest of the day with him. She turned and walked a little down the aisle. “Vanilla.” She said over her shoulder without turning. “And there is nothing fascinating about that.” She smiled turning a little more to look at him.

The corners of Caleb’s eyes crinkled as his smile intensified. He respectfully disagreed with her opinion that she wasn’t interesting – and with her assertion that she had told him everything he had asked – but he would pursue it now. Although she seemed to be giving him signs that indicated that she was interested in him, he could very well be wrong. He hadn’t yet forgotten the biting rejection of his youth, not that he ever asked anyone out back then. So instead of arguing with her, he waited to see what her answer would be, only being distracted ever so slightly as she moved her striking hair. The smile on his face broke into a grin as she questioned his choice. He made a show of looking her up and down, checking out the tone of her muscles.
“I think I can handle you, I’ll have your line,” he told her, confidently, pursing his lips a little with the evaluation. He couldn’t help but look delighted when she did eventually agree to accompany him, though. As she mentioned her favourite flavour of ice cream, he laughed softly, a husky, warm sound that didn’t carry far – it was just for her.
“Vanilla, huh?” he reaffirmed, his mind wandering back to some rubbish he had been told at an ice cream vendor last summer. He nodded a little and pulled his lips into a knowing half smile. “Ah, I see… it all becomes clear… Vanilla lovers are private; hold their cards close to their chest, goal orientated and – ah! – can be impulsive risk takers…”
He laughed again and grinned at her shaking his head. “See, how’s that not fascinating? Yeah… I’ve no idea why I remembered that… And my car, it rocks, you have to see it, plus, what kind of gentleman would I be to make you walk, or let you drive? Everyone knows that men are better drivers!” he winked at her, knowing that the latter comment was a little risqué, but it was good to know where her teasing limits were. “Are you buying anything?”
He knew that he was being a little pushy now, but it was only out of pure excitement of this new encounter that he was so.
(OOC: Yes, I did look up what ice cream flavours meant about your personality )

The confidence in his voice told Jayden she would have little to worry about if her held her lines and she found herself smiling and nodding too him. She felt a surge of excitement at the chance of been close to him, but she also felt trepidation at the idea of trusting him that much. She wouldn’t be hurt if she fell, yet if he couldn’t hold her and she did there would only be endless explaining on her part.
His comment on her choice of vanilla ice cream stopped her in her tracks. She turned to face him, a smile playing on her lips. How can one react to a remark so deep about ice cream? Jayden wondered as she dropped her chin to her chest and laughed her head shaking from side to side, her falling over her face. She honestly couldn’t help the laughter, his comment was so friendly and pretty close to her personality. She did play her cards close to her chest, though the most risky thing she had done lately was what she was doing now; agreeing to go somewhere with an almost, complete stranger.
Jayden was still smiling as she looked back up at him. She focused on his amazing eyes and easy smile. She was glad when she heard his laughter. Her smile brightened that he found that fascinating. She longed to ask him what his favorite flavor was and what it said about him, but her interrupted her though with his next comment.
When he passed judgment on women drivers yet called him self a gentleman in the same sentence Jayden dropped her smile she narrowed her eyes at him. “I will have you know I am a perfect drive. It is the other drivers on the road, namely men, which make my job difficult.” She said trying to sound high and mighty but a smile danced across her lips as she finished the sentence. She laughed again a quieter on then the ice cream laugh. “No I’m not buying anything after all.” She said with a quick shake of her head, her hair falling from behind her ears.
She said looking him up and down in the same manner her had to her a few moments ago and licked her lips. “I am thinking, however, that I may be safer with someone else holding my line.” She smiled and tucked her hair behind her ears, “If you handle a line you’re your gender handles a car it might be safer all round.” She laughed at him. Then reached out her hand to grabbed his arm but stopped a few inches short, her hand held out palm facing almost up as she licked her lips again and spoke, “Come on, we should go before I wonder about you ice cream choice.”
