Everything that had happened since he’d first seen her only made him love her more; healing, a family, a gift of eternal life and someone to share it with. No matter how much she protested Emmett still believed Rosalie was his angel; or close to one. In this life Emmett’s only hope was that he gave her as much as she gave him; he knew he would spend he entire existence giving to her.
Since his creation Rosalie had always been there, never leaving him. Even through his first year, his new born year, when he could be dangerous and uncontrollable it was she that had been his constant. Afterwards as Emmett settle in to his being as a vampire she was still by his side; his angel, his companion, his love. Time was something Emmett found he had abundance of and recently all his time had been taken up thinking about the future. Eternity was the future, forever. All he wanted was to spend it with Rosalie.
It was dark the night he had come to his realization that she was the only one for him. He was a little older then a year and still adjusting to life, but of that he was sure. And it had been dark a few nights ago when he realized he was ready to ask Rosalie a question that would change their eternity. His human life was a blur to him and faded a little more with each sunrise, but Emmett was certain he never met any woman he wanted to take as his wife; which was exactly of Rosalie. Wife, soul mate, equal, mate; however you said the words it all meant the same.
It was dark again now as Emmett returned form a swift hunt that had been more of a thinking journey then a need to quench his thirst. The words had to come out right, the feelings had to come through and he had to do it without the sarcasm he usually carried that was sure to spark the temper in her that he loved. ‘Marry me.’ Too much of a command, Rosalie didn’t take well to commands. ‘Please marry me.’ To pleading and Emmett didn’t plead or beg. ‘I love you, will you marry me?’ Too traditional and human. Emmett wondered, what was the bench mark for a Vampire marriage?
The house was getting closer, the scents stronger, the question looming.
Catching his Angel’s scent on the faint breeze he knew she was close to house, if not inside with their family. Emmett wanted her alone when he asked, some tradition perhaps; down on bowed knee? The ring box was secure in his pocket as it had been for the past few days; a jewel to precious to leave his person just as Rosalie was to him. It was hard to let her out of his sight, a feeling he felt growing every day.
Reaching the entrance to the house Emmett was still unsure how to do this. Entering the house and catching the stronger scents only sent his head into a great swirl. “Rosalie” he called in little more then a whisper hoping he voice or the sight of her would calm him as it had since his first glimpse of her.

Life had been cruel to Rosalie Hale as a human. She had been lured into a false reality before it had been ripped from her ignorant hands. But she had been given a new life, if it could be called that. It was cursed and wild, it had scared her at first. How did one plan a future when time had no end? How would she cope with the fact that she was a feared being of the very darkest myths and dreams? Having the support of fellow vampires had helped the transition. They had opened their home to her, and had become closer family than any human had felt. Rosalie stood in her room on the second floor, frozen in place as she looked out the window. She stood patiently, yet still anxious, for the latest member of their family. He was undoubtedly the most important Cullen to her, and she couldn't help but feel a bit of fear for him at the moment. The wooded area in which they hunted near by was far from human contact, but being away from him still made her uneasy. He had somehow sweet talked his way into hunting alone, and the corners of her mouth turned up ever so slightly at the memory. Rosalie had always been a bit hard headed, and she was glad she had not lost her personality to immortality, but Emmett easily disarmed her defenses with the greatest ease.
Time went by differently now. It wasn't faster or slower, but everything was much more important and memorable. She still felt horrible guilt for condemning Emmett to this life, but it was difficult to dwell on that when Emmett had so easily accepted it all. The loss of his life and family were terrible of course, but Rose had learned that he was the type of person that saw the very best in everything. Her biggest and most welcome surprise was that he had seen something good in her, who he still thought an angel. She had helped him to the best of her ability and under Carlisle's guidance through his first year, explaining his new instincts and steering him away from the deepest desires. She had watch him struggle as she had, and now they struggled together as a family. She had been afraid of thinking it, of accepting it, but it was there. She was in love. She didn't know it would be possible, when she was such an abominable creature, but she felt it. She had felt an instant connection to Emmett when she had brought him to Carlisle, and it had only blossomed into what she recognized as a pure and intense love.
Rosalie finally relaxed when she heard the familiar step in the woods, relieved that he was back. She saw him come straight back to the house, and she immediately left her post to meet him. She heard the soft whispering of his voice saying her name. A bright smile dawned on her face when she saw him on her last steps on the stairs, and she instinctively read his eyes first... just in case. Aside from the pure bliss it was to be near him, she felt the extra relief to see only the bright topaz in his eyes. She quickly crossed the room to him and easily fell into a hug. "How was your hunt?"

Approaching the house Emmett heard the familiar movements inside, he could hear Rosalie move, he assumed, to greet him this alone made his steps quicken. Since waking up in this new life a few years before Rosalie had been his constant companion, never straying too far from one another for very long. It was her presence that gave his world meaning, looking to forever didn’t seem quiet as boring, to Emmett, if he had her by his side.
Entering the house that they currently called home Emmett let the scents of his family wash over him and relax his muscles and his mind. Even now he’d returned home his mind was still running around with ideas and ways of saying the words that seemed stuck in his head. As Rosalie fell into his arms he still couldn’t help marveling at how well their bodies fit together and how good it felt to Emmett to hold her in his arms. To him she felt soft, he handled he with the same care he would handle a soap bubble which he knew was ridiculous because she was as strong and unbreakable as he was. No matter how many times Emmett saw her strength he still couldn’t help think of her any other way then breakable and soft; something he knew she would despise she would probably consider it weakness.
Laying his head against the top of hers he didn’t let go as he spoke, “It was good, not much game, but I’m full.” He smiled. “Not a human for miles around, Rose.” He said gently noting that she had looked into his eyes moments before crossing to his arms. He knew it wasn’t a matter of trust, but more of temptation and he was still young at the vegetarian lifestyle. Besides he could never take offense at her keeping a check on his habits.
“What did you get up to? Or did you stand at the window waiting for me to return?” Emmett laughed and reluctantly released Rose form his grasp to look down at her. His eyes fell into her and the nerves quickly returned. Staring in to her golden eyes Emmett tried desperately to remember what he’d thought to do while he was out. “Rosalie, you know how I feel about you, don’t you?” He ask holding her shoulders lightly and looking at her with a serious expression on his usually cherub face.

Rolling her eyes, she tried her best to hide the smile that Emmett was so good at getting from her. "I know there aren't humans around here, but I still think I should have gone with you," she said stubbornly. The last time Rosalie had decided to go hunting on her own, she had almost committed a grave mistake. Of course, she had brought Emmett with her, and he had infinitely changed her life for the eternity it was going to last. For whatever reason that Rosalie did not want to question, Emmett had been placed in her path that day, but it could have very well ended terribly. She was glad that he had returned without having crossed paths with a human, and didn't care that he teased her about worrying about it. "Yes, I waited for you," she said, crossing her arms. "It's still not safe to go out alone, you know that." Her smile wasn't easily washed away, but she was able to convey a bit of severity in her tone. Sometimes she forgot how very young she was in this life as well, especially compared to Carlisle, but since Emmett had been turned, she had felt responsible for him aside from the affection and love that had been building. It had surprised her how easy it was to love him. After such an abrupt and traumatizing end to her human life, Rosalie thought she would have a difficult time building any type of regard towards another man. In fact, she had practically set herself against it. But trusting Carlisle had been much easier than expected, and it had made it possible to see Emmett for who he was without fear.
Rosale felt his hands take her by the shoulders and watched him search her face. She did the same and saw a familiar look that indicated that his mind was trying to focus. Even though she had more experience in this life, there were still times when she had to really concentrate to keep her thoughts in order. It took him a few seconds, but he seemed to have remembered what he had eluded him, and his face turned serious. She seemed to sense the but of anxiety he had, and she felt herself become still and nervous as well. His question was abrupt and had caught her off guard, and the look on his face was not one she saw often. Did she know how he felt? She thought that the last year he had been with them had indicated that he also felt something for her, but now the question he'd asked her made her doubt herself. Maybe she had misinterpreted eveything. Newborns were impressionable and irrational at times, she could have easily mistaken it for affection and love.
A worry line appeared on her smooth face, and she felt herself take a small step back away from Emmett and out of the grasp on her shoulders. With her arms still crossed, she forced herself to keep her face neutral, though her eyes were worried. "I... I guess Edward would know," she deflected quickly, not wanting to give him a straightforward answer. She suddenly was frustrated. Maybe she should have asked Edward just in case, even though he hated when he did it to her. But it would have saved her this moment, where she was sure that Emmett was going to give her a few kind words before leaving them all.

All of his words felt like they were coming out wrong. His actions felt forced and jerky, he was messing this entire thing up and he knew it. Despite the hours of preparation while hunting and the months of thought Emmett felt ill prepared as he looked upon his angel. Despite her protest Emmett couldn’t shift that pet name from his mind, every time he, looked upon her he truly felt he was looking on a piece of heaven and was bless to do so.
He’d scared her, or worried her He knew that by the stammer in her answer. For a moment he caught the flustered look on her face and wondered if she saw the same flustered look on his face. Emmett knew, if it was possible, his heart would be running a pace to match a marching band on triple time and the sound would be enough to fill the stadium at Wrigley Field. As it was his heart was silent, didn’t stop the echo of the feelings. Emmett could swear he could hear blood rushing though his ears with nerves.
“I wasn’t talking about what Ed thinks you think about me; we can leave the mind reader out of this.” He smiled trying to ease Rosalie with a joke about their mutual brother. Slipping into the family had been something Emmett had done easily; he’d adjusted to all of his new life with ease and a new found grace. Right now the ease and grace had left him. Offering Rosalie another dimpled smile he looked at her. “You know how I feel about you. Well I hope you do. I love you, Rose.” He told her very matter of fact and with a confidence that Emmett didn’t know he had right then.
Once those words came out they seemed to open a flood gate and Emmett found himself tripping over himself to get them out. “You’ve been by my side everyday since, since I woke up. And I don’t want you to every leave me. And I don’t want to ever leave your side. I love you and…and…” Emmett stalled and looked at her. He knew his words hadn’t been the most eloquent or romantic, he knew Edward and Carlisle would have said them better with poetry and Shakespeare quotes. That wouldn’t have been Emmett, and would have made him more nervous about screwing up their words and making even more fool of himself. As it was they were his works that fell out of his mouth in a garbled mess. “I want to be with you always Rosalie…I love you.” He repeated himself. The words he needed to say still stuck somewhere with nerves, if she reacted badly to his last triad of declaration at least her hadn’t completely ruined his relationship with her by asking her to marry him. If she didn’t want to be with him forever, and didn’t love him return Emmett wasn’t sure he would recover.

Though she felt the anxiety catching on, though for different reasons than him, she couldn’t turn away from his face. She caught every slight change in his expression, the shift in his eyes. Seeing him so nervous was starting to snowball her own anxiety; he was never like this. Despite her expecting the worried about the conversation they were at the brink of, her brow relaxed when he made fun of Edward. Rose had told him that she still couldn’t stand Edward in many ways, and his extra ability was not a positive selling point. He tried to make everyone think that he was humble about his powers, but he also knew exactly when to use it to his advantage. It made Rose want to rip out his throat and sometimes regret that she hadn’t tried when she was younger and probably could have.
She wondered what else Emmett had to say about Edward, or even herself. Was he going to leave them because he didn’t feel like he fit in? It would be strange, since he seemed to have adjusted better than she had, and better than Edward or Esme, according to Carlisle. She just couldn’t think of why he was so serious, and why they were now standing in their home making each other increasingly nervous. The dimples that she loved so much suddenly appeared, followed by words she hadn’t been entirely prepared for. Her face released its tension, falling into a picture of awe and blissful disbelief. He loved her? Of course she knew she loved him, but he loved her? If her lungs worked in a way in which they were intended, they would have failed her, leaving her to struggle for air.
This was exactly what she had been planning for in the last few years of her life. For someone to say those words and to begin a new fairy tale story with her. Royce King had done none of those things, and had walked away with everything she ever had before leaving her to die. Since Emmett had joined them, she had always been at his side, taking charge of him in many ways. She felt a bit of satisfaction that he had recognized it, but still couldn’t understand how he could be so positive about the way they lived. He wanted to be with her forever, but in this case it was really forever. An expression tinged with pain crossed her eyes and she looked up at Emmett, wanting to return every word to him because she felt them too. But the horrible guilt she felt resurfaced and tore at her chest. “How could you love someone like me, Emmett?” she asked, her eyes sad and her head shaking slightly. “Look at what I did to you.”
It was the wrong question and the wrong statement. She wanted to smile and laugh with him, but she instead fell into a deep depression that used to sink her in, similar to the one she felt before she’d met him. If she didn’t concentrate, she still fell into rash patterns and changes in emotion, and the stress of his declaration made her mind spiral into a path of thought she had not traveled in a long time. This life wasn’t a natural one, it was cursed and they shouldn’t exist.

Emmett could tell that his nervousness was not having a very calming effect on Rosalie. Throughout his ever changing moods as a new born she had been by his side, he knew her emotions as well as his own. Mention of Edward would have set her on edge, He knew his angel’s feelings on their mutual sibling. Edward could be impossible with his lack of personal space when it came to another’s thoughts, but Emmett had his own way of annoying Edward that was fun and worked.
As her face changed through a variety of emotions Emmett could only imagine what she was thinking about his cryptic conversation. Knowing what he wanted to say and saying it were two different things. When the words finally left his mouth he felt relief for a split second, only to have it be replaced with more nerves as he waited for Rosalie’s reaction. There was an echo in his chest of a racing heart that had long since stopped beating. Emmett’s palms felt wet with sweat that was only a facsimile of something that couldn’t be.
Forever was exactly what Emmett meant, he understood that their new existence meant that forever was a possibility not a romantic dream. Forever with Rosalie was the only eternity Emmett could imagine having without her, nothing seemed bearable.
There was pain in Rosalie’s expression when she looked up at him and he wondered what he had said that would cause pain to his angel. Did she not love him? Maybe the idea was horrible to her? Then she spoke and Emmett found himself smiling, not because she returned his feelings but because what she said was typically Rosalie. “Someone like you? Rosalie you’re not the monster you think you are, Angel.” He smiled bringing dimples to his cheeks as he looked at her adoringly. “As for what you did to me, you saved my life. Gave me a new life and family. It’s all good from where I’m standing.”
Emmett wasn’t put off by her reaction to his declaration, he knew he loved her and he knew that somewhere deep down she loved him too. Emmett knew Rosalie well enough to know her reaction was from fear, the little he knew of her human life he couldn’t blame her. “Rosie, you gave me you. Or at least I hope you will. I want to be with you forever.” He said again, hoping she wasn’t going to be mad at him or turn and run from him; both were possibilities.

Feeling like a fool, Rosalie thought she would have loved for this moment to happen. She had realized her feelings long before he had, but only because she'd had a little bit more discipline. But now that it was happening as she had imagined, she couldn't stop the other resurfacing feelings that were associated with Emmett. They were all fighting for dominance, and at the moment, depression and doubt were winning out. Her sad expression softened only slightly at the sight of his brilliant smile and the dimples that accompanied them, but couldn't remedy the guilt that ate at her. There were times when she felt like his light-heartedness was something she admired in him. It had allowed him to fit in with them, and adjust quickly. But it was times like these when it was infuriating. It was as if he didn't realize what any of them were; of what they'd become.
The look on his face inspired confusion. She had seen it in varying degrees before, and loved it when she saw it. But it always reminded her of how undeserving she was. "This isn't a life..." she disagreed crossly. "I destroyed you." She lightly touched his chest with both hands, needing the support but not wanting to lean on him for fear of collapsing. "You ... you should hate me," she said, defeatedly. As she said the words, she felt the full force of the hate for herself. All the wrong words were being said. She wanted to smile and laugh in his arms, but the angry haunted words won their way out of her lips first. "Forever..." she said shaking her head again, "is a very long time." She couldn't imagine him being able to live throughout eternity without feeling some kind of resentment towards her. She had learned to love Carlisle very deeply, but there was always a part of her that disagreed with what he had decided to do with her that night.

This was certainly the biggest moment of Emmett’s life. With Emmett he didn’t distinguish between before and after his change, to him that were both just life though one was clearer then the other. This moment was the greatest thing he’d ever done and the only think he could ever remember thinking so much about. Watching his Angel he could see emotions on her face more then he imagine, infact he was sure that wasn’t joy and love on her face. Was he wrong? Should he had said it different? Done it another time? How wrong could his proposal really be?
“Rosie? Did I say something wrong?” He asked needing to know what he’s done or how he could undo it and make it right again. Emmett hated to see anything but a smile on Rosalie’s face though he knew her preferred mood was more surely, a trait he liked. He couldn’t ever be attracted to a yes no girl, something Rosalie certainly wasn’t.
Her words made no sense to him, he could hear the confusion and uncertainty in her voice and worried that maybe he’s read all the signs wrong. Then her words cleared. “This is a life, a great life. Greater will you at my side.” He said trying to flash her his dimpled grin hoping it could ease any fears or doubts she had. “How could I ever hate you? You didn’t destroy me, you saved me. You’re my angel.” He said reaching out to rest his hand on her shoulder hoping the contact would make the words stronger as if his beliefs could flow through his body to hers.
She was right Forever was a long time, but it wasn’t long enough for him. No time could ever be long enough for him to share a life with her. “Not long enough.” He said sincerely and with his ever present grin. “Rose I want to be with you forever.” He said again.
