{Early B.D. ....Tag: Miss Kimmy } Jared slowed his pace as he reached the cover of the trees. He was running late, actually it had been a couple weeks since he had been on time for anything. He only hoped his girlfriend would understand. After all, hiding the truth from his mom, protecting a reservation, and keeping a smile on his Kim’s face was starting to take its toll on him. It seemed there would always be a special kind of drama brought on by the Cullen’s. The newest bit was a Wedding between a human girl and a vampire, it was like the whole lot of them had lost their minds. Including someone from his own pack. Jacob, he felt for the kid, but the fact he was casting such turmoil for his father and the pack tended to make him angry.
The sun was shining, an odd but very welcome occurrence for LaPush. With a tug at the waterproof duffel bag he’d set aside by Kim’s home he pulled it from between two branches, and let it drop to the floor. He unzipped it in a flurry of motion, pulling on the gray cotton t-shirt and buttoning his dark jeans so quickly you’d think he had been caught naked in her parents back yard. But that was nearly a precaution. Standing around in the nude was never comfortable in odd locales.
With a swift tug at his sock, he slipped on his black sneakers and looked up to her window, sighing. He had a bad feeling. After being stuck with an upset Noel for the past few over night shifts though, he thought it may be due to the lack of positive thoughts she had. And, he couldn’t blame her, he felt for her. But he couldn’t imagine what her feelings toward Embry truly felt like. Because imprinting on Kim had left him completely oblivious to the relationships of others, their emotions were like toned down versions of what he felt. Well, besides Leah…hers hurt, even to hear.
Jared knocked lightly on the door and stood aside with his hands in his pockets. He stared at the door knob, remembering that he had forgot his towel. Luckily the swimming trunks were on just beneath the rough feeling jeans he wore. He smiled weakly, remembering he wouldn’t need one. His eyelids felt like they had weights attached, and his body was sore from lack of sleep. All he wanted was to see Kim, to hold her. She was what he looked forward to everyday.

He was late, again. Kim wasn’t surprised that Jared was late to see her again. It had become a habit lately, and for the most part she hadn’t minded. Kim understood that he had a lot of responsibilities. She knew what he did was important and wouldn’t blame him for just doing her job. But yesterday that changed. He said he was out patrolling, doing things with the pack. He told her the reason he couldn’t see her was because of the pack. She wouldn’t have questioned that, except that when she had been out for a walk she saw differently.
Kim had spotted Jared through the trees. She was about to go over and say hi but then she saw what he was really doing. He was with a girl, someone she knew was a female wolf, Noel. It hurt her deeper than she knew possible. She was afraid of losing Jared before to another woman, before he told her about the imprinting, she would have practically expected this to happen, but he had convinced her he’d never hurt her, that it was only her for the rest of his life. She had allowed herself to get comfortable in that fact, and saw it thrown back in her face as she watched them embracing in the cover of the trees. She ran home crying that night, wondering how long he had been lying.
It was hard for her to think about the situation, all of the nights when he told her he was going off on pack business, how much of it was to see Noel? She also wondered how much of it had to do with the fact that Noel was a wolf and Kim wasn’t. Did they share a bond that Kim would never be able to touch? Did Jared expect her to be okay with it, to allow him to be with someone else so long as he came back to her, whenever he felt like it? She knew she had to talk to him about it, but she wasn’t sure how. It tore her apart thinking about not being with him, but his betrayl hurt so much. Could she stay with him knowing what he was doing behind her back?
Knowing she had a few extra minutes Kim went into the bathroom and splashed some water on her face. She didn’t want her eyes looking red and puffy like she was upset. She still wasn’t sure how she’d handle seeing Jared today. Patting her face dry with a towel she heard the knock on her door. For one of the first times she could remember, Kim wasn’t excited to see Jared, she hadn’t been patiently waiting by the door counting down the minutes, she had actually been dreading it. How could she look at the face of the man she loved knowing he spent the night with another woman?
She took a deep breath before heading to the door, opening it up to see Jared standing there. Despite her anxiety to see him, she felt the normal calming effect coming from his presence but she tried her best to ignore it. She didn’t want any imprinting tricks he had to work to keep her from being upset. She had a right to be upset. She had a fleeting thought that maybe she should say she wasn’t feeling well so that she didn’t have to spend the day with him at all, she could just go hide in her room and let him get back to his wolf girlfriend. Instead she just looked down as she greeted him with a simple “Hi…” feeling to afraid to look in his eyes right now.

Jared felt the usual wash of calm as he saw the love of his life standing just behind the trim of the door. He hadn’t even noticed the short hello, or the fact her eyes didn’t meet his. He was too glad to see her, to have her petite little frame standing so close to him. Kim being so close was like having his aching limb cradled in the comfort and love of a drifting cloud. She was his heaven in the simplest and most basic form.
He’d ignored the noticeable fact that something was up because seconds had barely dragged on as he had already scooped her up into his arms. Jared tucked his face into the crevice of her neck, taking in the sweet scent of her hair. “I missed you so much angel,” he said. But, now he noticed something that wasn’t normal. Her heart beat hadn’t elevated as it usually did in his presence, she wasn’t giving off the overwhelming happy feeling that she always fed into him.
Jared placed her feet back on the floor very softly bringing his finger tips to her cheek, where he could sense tears had recently fallen. His senses had been heightened since his transformation, but when it came to Kim it was as if they were tied at the soul. At least that’s what he felt, “What happened?” he asked his words a little rushed, his face overcome with a twinge of panic stricken anger. “Did someone touch you?” He asked letting his fingers trail down the length of her arm, “Is everyone okay in the house?”
Jared felt clueless and angry, if something had happened so close to home while he was on ridiculous overnight rounds he’d kill someone.

It wasn’t long after she had opened the door that Jared had taken her into his arms. While she physically felt less tension and calmer in his presence, she had to force herself to keep her mind on the issue at hand. He had cheated on her, and now he was acting like nothing was wrong. It made her feel as though he would expect that she would understand this and go along with it. That because it was wolf thing she couldn’t object even if she wanted to. She felt sick as she wondered if maybe the two of them had only been intimate as wolves and that was why he didn’t consider it cheating. Noel had him in a way Kim never could. She couldn’t be his wolf lover, or share that bond with him. She was just the girl he was forced to stay with because of some stupid legend of the tribe.
Kim swallowed nervously as he told her he missed her and called her angel, something that had always made her feel so special. It was hard to fight the feelings of love she felt when she was near him. She started wondering if she should just accept what had happened. She was still lucky to have Jared even part time. “I missed you too…” She said softly knowing that even hurt, it was true. She was a desperate fool, a woman considering staying with someone she knew wasn’t going to be faithful.
As Jared placed her back on the floor Kim slowly lifted her face to look up at him as his fingers traced her cheeks and she could see he was realizing she had been crying. He saw the emotions coming over him as he was protective over her. She wondered if he was the same way around Noel. “No one touched me, everyone’s okay inside” She said shaking her head. She wasn’t sure she could actually go through with this. She was never good at confrontations.
“Jared…where did you say you were last night?” She asked softly needing to hear him say it again, to confirm that he was supposed to be out patrolling or doing some other pack business.

The sound of her voice took his nervous tension down a notch, but he couldn’t help but feel a deep sadness. Something was wrong, and he was completely clueless as to what. He took a step back, and leaned forward a bit to look in her eyes, if he had to say so himself it was as if she were diverting from looking into his own. Something that definitely wasn’t Kim, maybe the elders were wrong, maybe it was easy for an imprintee to fall out of love. If so, he wouldn’t force her to stay, he felt his heart drop into the pit of his stomach at the mere thought of being without her.
He looked to the ground before looking back up to her, a small smile on his face. Maybe she was playing a joke? An awful joke…? “Sweetheart, I did the same double shift I’ve been pulling for the past week.” Jared said, his tone was soft and his eyes made a motion behind her, to what would be behind her house, the place he normally came from to pick her up or meet her. It was normal for him to stray the smallest bit to check on her home before obediently rushing back to his post. Thank the heavens for speed, was something he often said in his head at those times.
“Come on,” he said touching her hand, wrapping his own around hers, “Let’s go and you can tell me whatever is on your mind. Okay?” he asked, his tone still gentle. He tugged lightly, hoping her father wasn’t home to hear his talk of shifts and such. He didn’t want the guy to start wondering where he worked exactly to make him work such crazy hours.

Kim glanced up at Jared seeing him take a step back and look into her eyes. She knew he was trying to figure out why she was acting like this. She was angry that he didn’t know. She was hurt that he didn’t have a look of guilt in his eyes. He wasn’t regretting what he’d done to her. He wasn’t trying to make up for infidelity. He was just acting normal. She started to wonder how long this had been going on between them. Maybe it was before he even imprinted on her. He didn’t have a choice with Kim, but maybe he did with Noel first and just never stopped seeing her. That would explain why everything was the same for him now. Why he didn’t even look sorry. She wanted to burst into tears again and yell at him but she tried to keep herself together, looking away, not wanting to look into his eyes right now, knowing she’d be caught up in them, in the love she felt when she looked into them.
Then she heard his answer. Double shifts for a week. Had it been that soon? Was she no longer enough for him? She swallowed, feeling an uncomfortableness in the back of her throat from the dry lump that was there. She then nodded. “Right double shifts…” She repeated. She had believed him, without question before. But she had seen it with her own eyes. She hadn’t even been following him or suspecting him of lying. She just wanted to go for a walk. And the truth was she had missed him and felt closer to him out in the woods when she knew he was patrolling.
Jared then took her hand and led her away from the house. She went with him quietly trying to decide what to do. She didn’t think she could leave him. She loved him. She had been crazy about him since before he even looked at her. But he was cheating. She knew that meant she didn’t really have him at all. Could she stay? Her stomach turned at the thought of both options. She glanced back at the house as they walked away from it. She wondered if she should stay close by so she could go back if they did end things tonight.
She took a deep breath. She knew that he knew something was on her mind, she was awful at hiding anything from him. “Jared…I saw you yesterday…”

He felt the tiniest bit of relief when she followed him they were supposed to head to the beach today, and so that was the direction his body was taking him in. Only, his movements were slow, as if there could be a gentle nature to a walk. He squeezed her hand, as if to remind her he was there, wasn’t going anywhere. She wasn’t alone. He didn’t say anything, only waited patiently for her to begin telling him what was on her mind. Mentally he was preparing himself for the heartache that he knew would come when she was able to spit out the fact she didn’t love him anymore. He’d been dreading this moment, though knowing all along that it was coming. He heard her take a deep breath and looked down immediately. “You did?” he asked with a smile, a bit confused by the tone she used. “Why didn’t you say hi then? Was I running? Cause even if I was I would have stopped,” he began. “Weird I didn’t feel you there…” he said as his mind drifted off into thought.

It was hard for Kim to follow him away from her house where she knew she'd end up sooner rather than later tonight once this was all over. She couldnt see it going well and assumed she'd be running upstairs crying again. But she felt so good being with him now, even knowing of his betrayl that it tempted her to just try to forget about it and just appreciate that she had him even some of the time. But she didnt want to be that girl who let the guy she was seeing cheat. She knew it would kill her everytime he went out 'patrolling'. She still wasnt sure she could actually end it if he refused to give up Noel.
Looking back up at him after he squeezed her hand she fought off the urge to just ask him to hold her until she forgot about last night. Part of her wondered if he had started to figure it out and knew what she was going to say. He had to have some idea, right?
Kim looked at him confused after her admittance that she saw him. He acted as if nothing was happening and she should have just walked over and said hi to him. She wondered if he really did expect her to accept it, and she was supposed to even be friends with his wolf partner. "Why didnt I say hi?" She said, holding back her tears. "Did you really think I'd just come over when you were doing that? " She shook her head pulling her hand away and immediately feeling the loss of his touch. "Jared...I love you but after what I saw...I dont know if I can be a part of that"

Jared felt even more bewildered at the expression that stole her features. Why did she look at him that way? Normally if she seen him on patrol she would at least say hello, after all that was what normal girl friends did right? He mentally scoffed at her strange behavior; this was just plain odd for Kim. He began to nod when she asked the silly question; he couldn’t help but wonder what was up with her. But, the tears the welled up in her eyes instantly made his heart break. She was really upset, and he wasn’t even a good enough boyfriend to imagine a reason for why.
He stepped back still holding her hand and trying to get a better look at her. This wasn’t some cruel joke, she was serious. “What? Kim, angel what exactly was I,” he paused and took a breath, “What do you think I was doing?” he asked trying to think of some obvious reason for her anger, but coming up with absolutely nothing. His heart felt like it was in his gut, being eaten away by the acid within it. It was the only logical explanation for the pain he felt as he looked at how upset he’d made her.
Kim’s hand leaving the comfort of his own was a bad sign, and he felt at that moment that he may be sick. Jared looked to the grass beneath his feet, taking a deep breath before looking up at her once more, ready for the final blow. The string of words that meant a life filled with a broken heart, watching her grow old with another that could keep her happy. Or at least do a better job then he seemed capable of. “Kim,” he said with a voice that seemed shaky on the edges. “My love,” whispered reaching for her hand once more, “I swear I have no idea what you’re talking about, please, please help me understand,” he pleaded before clearing his throat. He had to be a man about this, no matter how much it would hurt.

Kim looked into Jared's eyes as he stepped back and asked her what she thought he was doing. Each word of denial hurt even more, knowing he hadn't thought it was wrong. If she had seen him looking guilty or at least feeling bad for what he'd done, she knew it would have been easier to get past. But to him, his actions were fine. Her lower lip was quivering, as hard as she was trying to hold herself together to go through with this, she knew she was weak. Jared was the one who made her stronger. He made her worth something. She knew that she wasn't good enough for him, but he had never made her feel that way, and never would she have thought he'd use her like this. She wondered if she was prettier or more popular if he could have been faithful to her.
"Its not what I think I saw, Jared, I know I did" She told him softly, missing the comfort of his hand as soon as she pulled back. Jared wasn't even looking at her now and she felt her heart aching to just forget her stupid feelings and go back to him. Hearing his voice shake as he called her his love and asked her to help him understand hurt even more. She knew she had wanted him to feel this way, because she was upset, but as soon as it happened, she hated that she caused him that pain. She looked down at his hand and hesitated a moment before finally reaching back over and taking it, knowing she needed the comfort if she was going to keep from sobbing as she told him.
"Jared...I love you..." She started with the easy part. "I saw you with Noel..." She said her voice now catching in her throat and looking down not wanting to see the acknowlegment in his eyes. "I saw you holding her..." She had left before she had seen it go any further but knew that they seemed close enough to draw conclusions with. "Just promise me you'll end it, we'll forget about this whole thing" She said, giving in, knowing she was weak for letting him get away with it, but needing to be with him.
