(Mid to Late BD)
Mya pulled her Harley Davidson bike up to the curb in front of Don’s house, and turned off the engine. He had invited her over for dinner, a home cooked meal he had told her. He had to be the absolute sweetest guy she had ever met. She had definitely fallen for the guy, something she never expected to happen with her partner. She always imagined she’d be paired with some old cranky guy, never someone as good looking, charming, kind, and great at their job as he was.
As she took off the helmet, she couldn’t help but have a girly moment, grabbing the side mirrors and tilting them to check out her hair for a moment, making sure she didn’t have too bad of helmet hair. She was still trying to impress him whenever she could, even though they were together. When she was satisfied that her appearance didn’t seem too wind blown, she got off her bike and headed towards the house. She still got those butterflies in her stomach thinking about Don, and how sweet it was that he was doing this for her tonight. She’d never had a guy cook for her before Don, and it really meant a lot to her the effort he was putting forth. He was so romantic that sometimes she thought he was like the guys in movies, the ones she never really believed existed and were all just fairytales made up to get girls to believe their was hope. He proved to her that it was true, that prince charming existed. When she reached the door she took a deep breath to calm her nerves and knocked lightly at the door.

Donathan looked around the kitchen wondering where he had put the bag of roma tomatoes. He’d chosen them fresh today, along with all else he had put together tonight. He was finally ready to tell her he was in love with her. That he was ready for the next step, whatever that was suppose to be. He smiled like a child on Christmas morning as he found the clear plastic bag hidden just behind the black and stainless steel toaster.
He brought the tomatoes to the sink and rinsed off the cutting board, tomatoes, and the large cutting knife, humming Marvin Gaye the entire time. The smooth music played in the background, the candles on the table were lit, now it was just a matter of time. “Lets get it on,” he sang loudly in the privacy of his own home. The marinated steaks sizzling on the pan.
The whole kitchen was black granite, and stainless steel, completely modern and perfectly Donathan. Everything in its place but the plates, seasonings, and silverware. “Aaaahhhhh baby! Lets get it on,” he continued his hips moving in motion with the song.
The knock at the door made him stop in his tracks. His attention instantly on the door, where his woman stood on the other side. He opened his mouth to shout for her to come in before realizing the door was locked. “Be right there!” he called out, untying the large apron, his navy blue dress shirt crisp, with not a spot on it. The sleeves rolled up to expose his muscular fore arms.
He opened the door, and stood aside. Motioning for her to enter. “Hope your hungry,” he smiled. Giving her a kiss on the cheek and taking her hand. He closed the door behind her.

Mya’s face shone in a bright smile as Don opened the door, always happy to see him. She still managed to blush as he kissed her cheek and took her hand, wondering if she’d ever get those silly girl responses under control. She gladly intertwined her fingers in his large hand. “Yeah I’m definitely getting hungry, the food smells great” She told him honesty. Don was an amazing cook, much better than she could ever be (cooking was not one of her strong points). “Is there anything I can help you with?” She offered, not wanting him to feel that he had to completely wait on her hand and foot, she’d do her share, even if she lacked the skills to do much.
“Oh, I brought some wine too” She said holding up the bottle she had in her other hand. “It’s a pinot noir but if it doesn’t go with the dinner, you can just save it for some other time” She said, not wanting to ruin his meal with a drink that didn’t compliment the taste.
As they walked inside Mya found herself walking closer to him, just enjoying being near him. She didn’t fail to notice his exposed forearm. They were so strong, but she smiled softly as she remembered how good they felt wrapped around her. She noticed the light music in the background and the candles already lit on the table. “You always think of everything don’t you” She said with a smile as she looked up at him.

Donathan smiled proud of his work in the kitchen, and glad she was hungry. With her hand in his he lead her to the breakfast nook, pulling out a stool and guiding her to sit. “I can take care of it,” he assured her, reluctantly leaving her side. He walked back over to the cutting board and brought it to the stretch of counter in front of the bar Mya now sat at, so that they were opposite each other as he diced.
“Wine huh?” he winked. “What year?” he asked looking up at her quickly before back down, careful as not to cut himself, and instantly look like a fool. He scooped up the diced tomatoes and shook them off his hands and into the salad bowl atop the lettuce and cucumbers.
He laughed. “And I try,” he smiled in response to her comment about him thinking of everything. He had to be all that a lady could want, all the she could want. It was a tall order, but one that had to be filled otherwise she’d be in the market for a new boyfriend, which wouldn’t be hard to find. Most of the guys on the force looked at her like they never seen a woman before, though women like her were hard to come by.
“How was the ride over?” he asked over his shoulder as he turned the dial to the stove. “Are you on the schedule for tomorrow?” he asked curiously. He stopped there as to not bombard her with questions.

Mya walked with Don into the kitchen, taking a seat on the stool as he motioned for her to sit. She watched him move the cutting board so that he was facing her as he finished chopping. Mya never had the patience to make food from scratch. She wondered if she even had a cutting board at her place. If she did, she had no idea where it was. It was a good thing Don cooked at least.
“This year, nothing too old I’m afraid” She told him. “But I figured you seem to like youth” She added with a little wink to him, joking lightly about their few years age difference.
“The ride was nice, it’s a pretty clear day out, and there weren’t too many people on the road” Mya told him, having enjoyed the ride. She knew she had been speeding on the way over, having been overly anxious to see Donathan again. “I’m not on til tomorrow night…what about you?” She asked him, wondering if he was working early. She was hoping she’d be able to spend the night tonight, but didn’t want to make any assumptions. She knew they’d see how things went that night, but if he had to get up early, she’d probably head home that night so he could get a good night sleep.

Don let out a hearty laugh at her comment on youth. To be honest, before Mya he never had a particular preference in age, weight, height. All of that just seemed like fluff compared to a personality. After all image changes over time, someone’s persona, not so much. But, now he was pretty sure that if he and Mya didn’t last he’d want his next girlfriend to be like her. Which would be difficult, as Mya seemed a species all her own.
He smiled at her response on the roads being clear, put on some oven mitts and pulled out golden biscuits that smelt of honey. Donathan grabbed two plates and placed the steaks atop, drizzling a special sauce around the edges before topping each with some fresh basil. He brought the plates over to the small table, his eyes glistening in the candle light. Rather quickly and efficiently he’d brought everything but the salad over to the table. He smiled and turned the dial, the lights dimmed.
“No, I’m off tomorrow. I covered Mcintyre’s shift yesterday,” he stated simply. Don walked back over to the counter and brought the wine bottle and two glasses back with him, placing them gingerly on the table.

Mya grinned as she watched him laugh at her joke about the age of the wine and his taste for youth. She was glad that it didnt seem to bother him. The age difference didnt matter at all to her. She liked him for who he was and the way he made her feel. His good looks didnt hurt either.
Mya could feel the hunger growing as she smelled the food as he began bringing it out, watching in amazment as he prepared the plates. Mya watched him dim the lights and saw the way the candlelight dimly lit the table, just enough light to set the perfect mood. She was completely touched by all the effort he had put into this. "It looks beautiful" She commented as he walked back after having placed the plates down.
She smiled as he mentioned how he had off the next day. While she was glad that he didnt have an early shift, she was a little disappointed she wouldnt be riding with him the next night. "They'll probably have me on desk duty tomorrow then"
