As the family drifted towards each other in the large clearing Emmett was eager to start the game, he hated to wait and would be sure to bother his brother about it later; and what fun he would have doing it. With the family gathered Emmett knew it wouldn’t be long till the start of the game, he could already see the distant flash of lightening and knew its partner, the thunder they needed, wasn’t far away.
A roll of laughter escaped Emmett as he listened to Alice try to reassure Jazz and Rose about the loss they would receive. “Looks like it’ll be my wedding choice, babe.” He told Rose with a wink, but Emmett knew that Alice’s vision were subject to change so he would stay play to win. “I’m thinking a jungle theme.” Emmett thought out loud and chuckled a little.
As Esme teased Alice about Bella and their friendship Emmett couldn’t help but smile as his mind buzzed with retorts to throw into the mix. “Yea short stuff, leave the human alone. You know the rules; no pets in the Cullen house.” Emmett rolled with laughter then turned to Esme, “And I’m sure she loves spending time with us. We’re all total pleasures thanks to our upbringing.” Emmett winked and smiled throwing his dimples at his mother for angelic effect.

Edward watched as the smile appeared on Bella’s delicate lips and a hint of blush colored her cheeks. She was the most beautiful creature in the world to him. The spitting image of perfection and he loved just watching the smallest of reactions that she’d give him.
Edward smiled again as he listened to Bella ask how anyone couldn’t be impressed with him. He almost mentioned how Charlie’s friend Billy would never be impressed with him, but decided to keep the conversation light. “I’m sure Charlie knew that day would come. You already know that every boy in that school wishes he were in my place right now, taking you out”
Even with Edward’s assistance, Bella still managed to stumble out of the jeep, but Edward was there to catch her fall. He wouldn’t let any harm come to her. He had made that promise to himself when he agreed to let himself spend time with her. He waited for her to get her balance and let him know that she was ready before placing his arms around his neck as he hoisted her up piggyback style and began running.
Edward enjoyed running, being able to use his speed without needing to hold back as much. He didn’t run at his full potential, not wanting to make Bella sick, but it was faster than the normal human pace. Moving at this rate it didn’t take them long to reach the clearing where he could already see his family warming up. He stopped running a few feet away from them, setting Bella down so that she could walk up with him to his family on her own two feet. He smiled down at her making sure she had her bearings. “You make it through that okay? Ready to see how we play ball?”

The muscles in Carlisle’s back responded instantly to his wife’s touch. Her every stroke on his skin, whether through material or not, served to remind him just how much he loved her, physically as well as spiritually. She knew exactly how to make him relax, how to incite his curiosity or excitement, his love, but right now her touch spoke of a sort of nervous idleness. He knew that Esme wanted, more than anything, for Edward to be happy with his love and for the whole of their family to be as happy as she was that he had managed to find it after so long. He so wished that he could make the more stubborn division, encompassed almost entirely, now, or Rosalie, see just how much good Bella had brought to Edward’s life; she had brought not only love, but hope. It had pained Carlisle to know that Edward saw them all as soulless monsters, but he secretly wished for her to show him that all was not lost.
A smile cracked his pale face as he listened to Esme tease their youngest daughter about forcing friendship. It was something that he was almost certain Alice wouldn’t do, but he supposed that was the curse of knowing the future – having knowledge of the outcome, and perhaps not the method by which it was reached. Still, Alice was about the most jovial and likable vampire he had come across in his long years and Carlisle was certain that Edward’s human friend would not take long to acquiesce to her friendship. A small chuckle emerged from his chest as he heard Emmett’s quick response to his adoptive mother’s warning, ever the jokester. However, before he could respond further, his quick, amber eyes caught the sight of the missing couple approaching the field and a warm smile spread over his lips and cast itself over his gathered family.
“Ah, it looks like the teams are almost complete,” he raised his hand to greet the ‘youngest’ Cullen and his girlfriend. He turned himself to view his wife once more. “Esme, are you going to take Bella to keep score with you?”

Emmett broke off his angelic smiles from his mother and looked towards the approaching couple. Even from this distance Emmett caught Bella’s scent while it wasn’t any more tempting then another human’s scent it still had a temptation, he was glad of his hunt the day before.
Glancing at his father as he spoke and waved to the couple Emmett smiled a bright, face filling smile before glancing at Rose. Emmett knew Rosalie wasn’t happy about Bella’s inclusion into their family and their activities, but Emmett wanted to make this as easy for his Angel as possible. The happier she would be about it, the easier the rest of the family would have it.
“Rose?” He questioned her, checking on her anger as well as just needing to make some sort of reach to her. He threw her a smile and a quick wink. Reaching down Emmett scooped up a bat from the equipment pile and turned to Jasper on standing, “Hey Jazz, think fast.” He smirked throwing the bat at his blonde brother.

If Edward thought that he was going to make her more comfortable by mentioning the odd fancy that some of the boys at school had taken to her, then he was sorely mistaken. The mention of the whole debacle only reminded her of the dance that she had narrowly avoided by ‘being in Seattle’ and she was still baffled by the attention that the likes of Mike and Eric had given her – beyond those two, and Edward, she hadn’t noticed anyone else paying particular attention and she was glad of it. Still, she squirmed a little at the comment. “Oh, I’m sure they’re fast getting over the novelty of me… hopefully. So long as I can keep your attention.”
Feeling the freefall that the height of the jeep was pretty much made to make her fall flat on her face, Bella’s eyes slammed shut, but whipped open again when she felt solid, comforting arms steady her. Her brown eyes looked up into the golden ones that melted her soul even when they didn’t try to and she gave him a semi-helpless look. He had already pretty much figured out that her coordination left something to be desired, and she couldn’t pretend that she didn’t like the fact that he had caught her, that he would hopefully always be there to catch her. Before she knew it, though, she had already clambered on to his back and clamped her eyes closed as quickly as she could.
“Remember,” she said, her voice already breathless and filled with nerves. “No hitting trees… No,” she gulped audibly even to her, her confidence evaporated. “Getting sick.”
This was better, she decided after a few moments of running as she realised that the contents of her stomach were not trying to make a swift escape as they had last time he had run with her. Still, her arms formed a stranglehold around Edward’s neck, one that surely would have crushed any humans thorax under the pressure that she exerted there and her eyes remained tightly clamped shut – she didn’t even notice when they had stopped, remaining tightly attached to his back and senseless of the surroundings. However, as her boyfriend spoke and she realised that they had actually stopped, she opened her eyes, shocked and let her grip loosen, accidentally depositing herself roughly on to her backside.
“Oh!”

Edward smirked as Bella commented on how she believed the human boys at school would soon get over her novelty, but that she hoped to keep his attention. “Its not your novelty that is drawing anyone to you” He told her. “And as for me, if it I were looking for new, I’d have that everytime we move. You will always have my attention”
After catching her from the fall out of the jeep, the look in Bella’s eyes was as alluring to him as her scent. It drew him in just as strongly but in a different way. He enjoyed the contact with her, even if it was difficult at times to restrain himself. But running to the baseball field was a good way to distract himself from other thoughts.
Bella was holding on tightly as he ran, and he wondered if this would all become too much for her. He hoped she wasn’t too scared and would maybe one day grow to enjoy the piggyback rides. She was still clinging to him as he stopped and he knew it probably took her a few moments to realize he had in fact reached their destination. As she let go, Edward was facing the wrong direction to realize she was falling, landing on her backside. He turned quickly as he heard her exclaimation.
“You alright?” He said worried, reaching down to help her up to her feet. Once she was upright he put one arm around her to steady her. “You can take it slow, no getting injured, I promised your father to take good care of you”
As Edward turned towards the family, he saw his father raise his hand to greet him as he and Bella arrived. Edward raised up a hand of his own, waving back at him, a smile on his face as he looked over at his father while walking up with his girlfriend. It had been so long since Edward had felt this kind of happiness, or had a smile that wasn’t filled with suppressed pain. But right now he truly did feel content. He knew Carlisle had seen the change in him and appreciated the support he provided, even with the unorthodox nature of this new relationship.

Bella’s cheeks flooded with colour as Edward assured her that she would always take his attention and that she wasn’t a novelty. She didn’t so much care if she was a novelty to the likes of Mark Newton and Eric Yorkie, but it would destroy her if Edward decided that he liked Jessica Stanley next week – not that she ever thought that would happen. She shifted contentedly in her seat, though not far due to the strong restraints fastening her down. She felt thoroughly dazzled by what he had said, despite not having direct eye contact with him.
“I hope so,” she said, training her brown eyes on the profile of his face. That’s when she made the mistake of remembering the intensity of those golden hued eyes when they were focused on her and she felt her heart hitch in response, yearning to see them again. She thought to herself that even if they were together forever she would never tire of those looks that he gave her sometimes.
After the run, and dumping herself unceremoniously on the ground, Bella began to pick herself up, finding it much easier when her boyfriend reached down to aid her. She allowed herself to be supported by his offered arm, always thrilled at any contact he had with her, even if it was only because she had been let down by her coordination once more. She shook her head as she was warned to take it slow and smiled up at Edward.
“Charlie thinks I’m going to be playing baseball – he’ll be expecting at least one of us to end up in a bandage,” she quipped, her tone humorously dry. She knew that her clumsiness often didn’t only have consequences for her safety, but also for those she was around – poor Mike had more injuries in Gym since she started at Forks High than he had during the rest of his school career. “He’s probably just thankful that Carlisle’s a doctor! Besides, I know you-” she cut off suddenly and hung on to Edward’s arm as uneven ground threatened to floor her once more. Righting herself once more on her boyfriend’s arm, she tossed her hair back over her shoulder and replaced the smile on her face. “-Will keep me right.”
As they got closer to the massive field where Bella could see the bases had been laid out (though with massive distance between each one), she felt a degree of that apprehension that she had felt the first time she had met his family. It was as strong as then, but the feeling that she could still make some kind of faux pas in this unusual situation still plagued her mind. She desperately wanted them to like her – she loved all of them already, well, except maybe Rosalie – and she hoped that joining in with this game, or watching it at least, would ingratiate her perhaps even with the less-than-welcoming ‘Hale twin’. She smiled and fell slightly behind Edward’s shoulder as the rest of the family came into view and she noticed the bits and pieces of baseball players’ uniforms that they had on with a smile. She could tell that they were excited about this game and she couldn’t wait to see exactly what would happen.

Tossing around the ball and hi jinxing around on the field was a regular pass time for Emmett, he was comfortable with been the jokester of the family. If Emmett ever stopped long enough to look at it, he may have seen her balanced out his family, but like always he was too busy thinking up a quip to tease Bella or Edward with.
Throwing the ball towards Jasper Emmett’s eyes flicked to the edge of the clearing seeing the approach of his brother with his Human girlfriend. Ever graceful, Emmett couldn’t help the burly laugh that escaped his lips as he watched Bella fall to the ground. “Good one.” He said jovially turning back to look as the rest of the family to see who shared his laughter.

As Edward helped Bella up after she fell dismounting from him, he quickly looked her over. The fragile human body was so easy to break. A small fall could have so many consequences. A twisted ankle, broken legs, bruises, scrapes or cuts if she landed on a rock. Edward scolded himself for not making sure she didn't fall. But he was grateful to not see (or smell) blood or any pain on her face other than perhaps a little embarassment.
"I'll do my best" Edward said as Bella said she knew that he would keep her right and her father would just be glad that Carlisle's a doctor. He hoped that Carlisle's training wouldnt be needed today. That it would be a safe activity for her to watch.
Edward looked up as they walked over to join the family, he heard Emmetts quip to Bella jokingly. He turned back to his girlfriend. "Don't mind Em, the more he teases the more he's accepted you"

The smile that Carlisle saw spread over Edward’s face, even from across the field, caused the corresponding one on his own features to spread a little. He enjoyed basking in his family’s happiness, and a quick flick of his amber eyes to Bella’s features saw an equal level of joy, even if hers was a little more reserved. That was to be expected though, she was both enjoying a leisure activity with a field of vampires and her boyfriend’s parents, which he had learnt was quite a daunting task in itself.
As the couple got closer, to within human earshot, he stepped forward, extending his warm smile now to the Swan girl, knowing that she could now see it. He could see that she was a little uncomfortable by the way that she almost shrunk behind Edward, but nerves would do that to anyone and it both pleased and intrigued Carlisle that Bella felt comfortable enough with Edward to entrust her safety with him in these quite unusual circumstances. Knowing that he was perhaps the most used to having to put people at ease in his company and also taking the natural role of head of the family he opened his mouth to welcome Bella to the game, but was beaten to it by Emmett’s quick peel of laughter at the girl’s expense.
“He got hit on the head just before he changed,” he added, not unkindly helping Edward to repay the large vampire his taunting. “But it’s true. We’re all happy you were able to make it, Bella and hope that you enjoy yourself. It is quite something to witness. I trust everything is alright with Chief Swan?”

Bella blushed to a deeper red as she saw Edward’s golden eyes shift over her form as she got up to her feet after her fall. It was nice that he cared for her so much, but she was acutely aware of just how imperfect she was, especially compared to him and his family. She honestly couldn’t see what the attraction was for him, but she was happy so long as it was there.
“I know you will,” she said, smiling that sure smile of hers, filled with the knowledge that Edward would never do anything to hurt her and would do everything he could to protect her. She didn’t need reassurance about that, really.
As they approached the field, even Bella’s poor human hearing picked up the roar of laughter that emerged from the large vampire. A small smile appeared on her face, which split into a grin as she heard her boyfriend’s explanation, which was extended by Carlisle’s greeting.
“Oh it’s alright,” she announced, her voice shy among the gathered Cullen family, but still with a degree of teasing in it. “I’m sure I can take it.” She may have been pretty much invisible in Phoenix, but she had gotten to know how teenage boys behaved – even if they were just pretending to be teenagers. She liked Emmett, his easy humour was teasing, but it wasn’t mean, like some teenage boys’ humour could be. She guessed that he must have matured his sense of discretion, though she couldn’t be sure of that just yet. Still, she already knew that she would very much like to get to know the large vampire. All of them, in fact, though she was still shy of Jasper and, of course, of Rosalie.
She nodded to Carlisle’s polite question about her father, “Yeah, he’s well, thank you. I am looking forward to seeing you guys play… I can’t work out why you need to do this in a storm…”

Having only taken a few practice swings, the bat cutting the cold air in a rushing sound, Rosalie hadn't gotten to enjoy the company of her siblings long enough before Edward arrived. With Bella. Great. She listened to the others react her to arrival immediately, but she remained facing outward where she was directing her swings. She had promised Esme that she would not be cruel, but with the subject of said cruelty in the vicinity, she was starting to realize that the only way to avoid any comments that would offend the human would be to avoid the human itself. She barely caught the grin on Emmett's face, but its usual effect was lost. She knew that he was just trying to accommodate Bella and keep her calm at the same time. For as much disappointment she had for Edward for falling in love for a human, she felt ire towards Emmett for accepting it like the others. This was wrong in a very basic way, and everyone was just brushing it aside because Edward had fallen for her.
The human scent was something they were all used to, some more than others, but these events were supposed to be for them to enjoy something together without that cursed temptation in the air. If anything they where the cruel ones, subjecting Jasper to Bella's scent when it was unnecessary. Her 'twin' was still struggling after so many years; and while his progress improves every decade, he still suffered under his own instincts. She listened to the others converse lightly with her, and she turned on her heels to face them. Her expression was blank, but she could not keep the glare out of her eyes. Of course she didn't know why the storm was needed. She didn't know many things, and it was going to get her killed. Bella's ignorant remark only confirmed to Rosalie that she didn't belong here, and would only jeopardize everyone other than herself, the selfish brat. The hand that held the bat tightened slowly, and the distinct sound of the wood groaning under her strength alerted her that she needed to restrain herself a bit more before she called attention on herself. She used her elevated amount of will power that was usually reserved to keep herself from drinking human blood, and apply a bit to keeping herself neutral at least. Her stoic figure walked at a human's pace to join the others, though she still remained a bit far, willing Emmett to come to her side.

"Of course," she responded to Carlisle's question of Bella joining her in score keeping. Esme herself didn't play and there was no way Bella would be able to keep up in their vampiric form of baseball so score keeping was what both of them would do.
Esme's brow furrowed as she glared at Emmett who was laughing at Bella. "You better be kind to her," she whispered to herself, knowing that despite the quiet tone of her voice he could hear her, as would the rest of her family.
She too turned in the direction Edward and Bella were entering from, her smile growing larger. Her eldest son appeared so happy as he stood beside his human girlfriend. Bella had transformed him in such a short period of time. Esme would be forever grateful that such a sweet and kind girl had broken through to Edward, bringing out his kinder and warmer side.
"It's nice to see you were able to join us, Bella," Esme greeted, a kind smile formed as she addressed the human. "Ready to help me keep score?"
