[Pre-Twilight. Tag Jasper.]
Three days had passed since Maria came upon the Confederate soldier riding his horse on a path to Galveston. The moment she laid her crimson eyes on him, she knew there was something special about him. Promise. Potential. Something told her that he would be incredibly useful to her, so she made the decision to spare his life and change him to be one of them. Maria had a considerable amount of control over herself, unlike Lucy who killed more than she created, and Nettie who.... well, who wanted him as a meal that night. Maria was sure she would have ripped her head off if she even attempted it. The man had been... compelling.
So as the sun rose high in the light blue sky on the third day, Maria made her way towards where her newly created vampire laid. Lucy and Nettie were tending to the other two newborns and she had made it quite clear that there would be hell to pay if a fight happened while her back was turned. The idea of a newborn army was incredibly intriguing to her, but she found it most difficult to deal with. Emotions rolled high when you had several in close quarters, and they tended to die off quicker than they were being made. After all, finding humans with the potential to be great vampires was hard enough.
In the past three days, he had done nothing but lay on the ground and thrash in agony. Maria paid no attention to him during that time, finding it incredibly annoying that the constant whining and screaming never stopped. It grated on her ears and it was the worst thing, according to her, about creating newborns. She left the care of them to her sisters. After they were finished complaining, she would take over. From day one, their training would begin, and if they showed promise they were allowed to live. If they didn't... well, they would be disposed of.
Crouching down by the still body, she brushed a few strands of golden locks away from his face, taking in his features. He had been handsome before in his pristine Major uniform, but now, although dirty from the ground he lay on, he was astoundingly beautiful. The sun that peaked through the treetops caused his skin to sparkle in the light and it only added to it all. The venom that had coursed through his system had changed him into a God, and Maria felt incredibly proud about creating this particular vampire. His heartbeat was now non-existent and his skin was equal in temperature with hers.
"Jasper Whitlock," she cooed softly, a small smile forming at the edge of her lips. She tilted her head slightly, her brunette hair falling over her shoulders at the action. It was like waking a human from a deep slumber, but he was so much more worthy of her attention. "Wake up, wake up, mister. Its time to play."

The pain and agony had been . . . indescribable. When Jasper had closed his eyes and felt the pain begin to subside, he surely thought he was dead. -- Little did he know how right he was -- . When darkness consumed him, that was all he wanted after what he had experienced. His mind was hazy on the details . . . he had no idea where he was, what he was doing here, or who he was with. He just lay on the ground . . . keeping his eyes closed . . . knowing there was a possibility that he would never open them again.
But a voice pulled him out. It was a sweet voice . . . one that sounded abnormally familiar. Jasper had to struggle to open his eyes, and much to his surprise, he did . . . and he was alive . . . well, at least he thought he was. The first image his eyes lay on was a beautiful woman. He had seen her before . . . in fact, that was one of the last things he could remember. But there was something different about her now. The way she was looking at him . . . it was bizarre indeed and Jasper did not know how to react.
He was soon distracted by these thoughts and questions when he felt a horrible burning in his throat. It felt as if someone had lit fire to his throat and there was nothing that could put it out. It was one of the most uncomfortable, and painful feelings and Jasper wanted it to stop . . . he had to debate what he wanted more: an explanation of his whereabouts, or a remedy for this pain.
"Who--" His voice was extremely coarse and weak. He could barley speak, but he had do. "Who are you?" It was such a typical question . . . but right now, it was imperative that he know. He had been taken from his duties . . . he was supposed to escorting woman to protect them. And here he was, lying on the ground . . . clueless as to what was going on. He closed his eyes, trying to ignore and hide the pain in his throat . . . but even he could not conceal how much it ached. This woman had to have known something. She was looking at him . . . expectantly.

Maria couldn't help the eager smile as it crossed her face when his eyes opened, nearling jumping up and down in excitement at the sight. Her mind was reeling, mainly because he survived but also because she couldn't wait to start working with him. The promise he showed gave her hope that the South could soon be hers and that she wouldn't have to keep dealing with the crazed newborns that wanted nothing but to rip each other's heads off. They were incredibly useful in war but were hard to handle on a daily basis.
A delightful giggle escaped her lips as he tried to speak, knowing full well exactly what he was experiencing. The burning ache in his throat would be excruciating and he would need to feast soon. Maria would help him take care of that, as she wanted nothing more than to make him as comfortable as possible. He was valuable, not to be toyed with. If there was one thing she learned while creating her army, it was to watch what she said and did around newborns. Push them just a tiny bit and their loyalty would be out the window in a split second, as would her head.
His bright red eyes met her deep crimson ones and she put a finger over his lips as he tried to speak. No doubt it would feel as if he had no voice and the pain in his throat would only add to the feeling. It had been long since Maria was changed but it was the sharpest memory of her vampiric life. She would never forget what it felt like to become undead.
"Hush," she murmured, knowing full well that he must have a million questions brewing in his intelligent mind. All would be taken care of in due time, but right now they had other things to focus on. "My name is Maria. You've been unconcious for three days, but you're fine now. Much better than fine. What do you remember?"
