---------- Philadelphia, 1948 ---------- Jasper adjusted the collar of his coat before putting his hands back into his pockets. Somehow, he had ended up in Philadelphia. Truth be told, it did not matter where Jasper went, or how far he traveled. He was still haunted by his past. . . one that was quite recent as well. It was the middle of the day and Jasper desperately wished it was night. At night, there were less people. But since he did not sleep, he had to wander at all times during the day and night.
As the rain started to pour, this only made things more inconvenient. He did not like being out in the middle of the day and he did not like rain. He was just very cynical about everything right now . . . it was mostly due to one thing. He was thirsty. Seeing people around him made the temptation and urge even greater. He was trying to do whatever was necessary for him to survive, but the people he did kill to quench his thirst was still a difficult task to do. He could still feel their fear and pain. Was there any way to escape this? He could not bear to feel what his victims felt before they died. He carried those emotions with him . . . unwillingly, and when they began to diminish, they arose again once he killed the next of his victim/s.
As these thoughts flooded Jasper's mind, he saw a small diner that did not look to be too crowded. He went inside, and to both his relief and disappointment, it was virtually abandoned. He shook his head a little, as the small raindrops dripped from his blond strands of hair. He stood there in the door way for a few moments, looking at the crowd that surrounded him. As he looked, his eyes rested on a woman. She looked young, petite . . . stunning. There was a certain beauty about her that made her familiar. He had never met her before, because he would have remembered . . . but her fair, pale skin, and her breathtaking appearance made it difficult for Jasper to look away. He was staring, and he knew it. But it was practically an impossibility to change the direction of his gaze.

“Ma’am, would you like anything else?” The burly man stood in front her, cleaning a glass with a white cloth.
Alice looked up, a coy smile plastered on her face, as she shook her head, “I’m fine thank you.” The white coffee mug had already cooled in her hands as she’d pretended to drink, more like sip, on the beverage that she knew later would be thrown up in the bathroom. How humans could stomach the liquid was beyond her. Looking out the window it was still raining outside and luckily for her sight she’d foreseen the weather and brought two umbrellas. Both would be needed. It had been an hour since she’d walked into the almost empty diner. When he arrived she wouldn’t know but by the end of that day Alice would no longer be alone.
“Are you sure that you don’t need anything? How about a slice of our famous banana cream pie? It’ll be on the house.”
“No, I’m fine thank you, just waiting on someone,” Alice smiled, flashing her bright teeth, the man just gazed at her. Mystified by her smile, and her beauty. It wouldn’t be the first time that she’d been given something for free. Practically most of her wardrobe had been given to her. Though she’d taken up a few different jobs in order to purchase things for herself without the aid of a human.
The diner was empty, practically void of life, and it was a perfect meeting place for them. Alice had known that his thirst would probably be an issue. She’d seen how dark his eyes looked. But she’d take care of that as soon as he made his way to the diner. As if on cue a tall blonde, with droplets of rain, walked into the diner, the lights catch the droplets creating a luminous glow to him though the visible scars on his exposed body did enough for glowing. A bigger smile grew on her face when she’d seen him, hopping down from the high stool, her feet landing softly on the floor, Alice made her way towards the man she’d come to know as Jasper.
“You’ve kept me waiting a long time,” Alice spoke, her voice musical, and light-hearted as she finally looked face-to-face to the man she’d come to love without having known.

Jasper continued to watch the woman . . . his eyes intently on her . . . he did not even consider that it was rude to stare. How could he possibly look away? What surprised him even more was that she was looking directly at him. It was not the fact that she was staring which surprised him. After all . . . that was what one vampire often did to another especially when encountering them in such an abandoned place like this. But it was not surprise or shock that was in her eyes. It was something else. She looked . . . Jasper could not describe it.
He made no attempt to move when she came closer to him. There was something about her indeed. What he felt when she was near was something he had never experienced before. It was joy. Pure, absolute joy. There was a confidence about her . . . the way she walked up to him . . . the way she smiled at him . . . the way she spoke to him. The emotions from her were addictive. Though he had only seen her a couple of seconds ago, he felt drawn to her . . . he wondered how empty he would feel when she walked away from him. These unfamiliar feelings were refreshing . . . they were something Jasper had longed for, for so long without even knowing it.
Her words only raised more confusion. But instead of babbling on, asking questions . . . he momentarily put aside the curiosity of her apparent expectation and lowered his head in a slight bow. "Sorry Ma'am." Jasper -- vampire or not -- still felt he needed to be a gentleman. That would sound quite hypocritical considering all that he had done in the past . . . but this woman in front of him, was someone who he needed to respect. Someone he needed to be polite in front of. He would soon find out, that she was someone he simply needed.

He'd bowed to her, which she'd already seen, but it was refreshing to see it in real time as his southern accent poured forth from his lips. Tiny droplets of rain water dripped from his hair onto the floor and Alice felt like brushing them away from him, so she'd be able to play with the blond locks, but that could be saved for later. Now that he was finally here she was now able to put her plan into action, she'd brought the two umbrellas, which still sat against the counter, turning around she fetched them and made her way back. He had looked at her curiously and it made her smile more, it was a good sign, "Lets go," Alice held her hand out to him.
It was the thirst that had been bothering him and she had wanted to be with him to at least help. Her own thirst was relevant seeing as she had been around the humans long enough and they had bothered her slightly. There would be someone soon that he'd be able to drink from, to quench the fire, and hopefully the pain he felt would be diminished.

He continued to watch her as she went to retrieve . . . two umbrellas. Her previous words had made it clear that she was waiting for someone . . . was it a random selection? Perhaps the first vampire who entered the diner. No. That would take quite long to wait for. Had she really been expecting him: Jasper Whitlock? He gently and slowly took the umbrellas from her. He did not plan to open one and hold it over himself; he planned to only open one and hold it over her so that nothing would disturb her perfection. Even if rain fell on her . . . she would still look as beautiful as she did now.
Her invitation for him to join her made him even more excited . . . but also increased his confusion. He knew he did not want to part from her . . . but where were they going? He felt an instantaneous trust and bond with this vampire, and so, was only too happy to follow her. He accepted the invitation, holding her hand in his own as he proceeded to the door. He opened one of the umbrellas, and released her hand for only a moment while he held the door open for her. Once she was out, he would regain his position taking her hand, and holding the umbrella over her with the other. While doing all of this, he did not take his eyes off of her. It was still practically impossible and would be quite a struggle if he tried.

The man that had previously been cleaning the glasses watched the scene unfold before him. It had seemed like something out of the movies and he'd half expected to see a film crew to waltz in and say cut that it was a good shot. No one came in. Almost all the people in the diner were now watching the couple before them and were amazed at such beauty. Than man looked troubled somewhat but by the way the woman was looking at him you'd think he'd of been her lover. He shook his head at the thought and went back to cleaning the glasses.
Alice's smile only brighten more, causing the people in the room to stare even more, when he'd taken her hand and lead her out of the diner. Briefly he'd let go of her grasp, which disappointed her slightly, his hand had fitted her own so perfectly, that when he'd taken it again she felt right. Jasper had only opened one of the umbrellas, holding it open for her as she exited the diner, her own eye gazing into his own. "Jasper," she'd known his name before she had met him, it'd been burned into her memory, "Your thirsty I presume?" Alice had begun to walk in the direction that she'd known where they'd be able to do drink. It wouldn't be long until they'd encountered the victim.
