They'd finally arrived in Arizona and towards the hotel with the help of Bella. The heat was something less than desirable if Alice were human but it did warm up her cold skin slightly, "Thank you," she flashed the bellhops a smile, they looked on in awe at both her and Jasper, it was a common reaction whenever they were out in public. Though they seemed to be trained to immediately forget who was standing before them and to gather their shopping bags.
Getting to their room was painless yet slow with the added speed of the two humans pushing their belongings along. Alice made sure that once they made it to the room that one of her priorities would be to get something into Bella. As soon as the door opened she walked off, almost danced, towards the bedrooms to inspect the weak-spots and to find a menu.
Edward had warned her of dire consequences if Bella wasn't well cared for. Like he needed to worry, Alice felt offended that he'd even had to talk with her about it or just given her the look. Hadn't she once said that both she and Bella were going to be the best of friends, possible even future sisters, if Edward were just to step up to the plate and give in.
The ride had left her a little wet from Bella's tears and the feeling of the material sticking to her skin was a little uncomfortable. Not that she had any problems with wearing Bella's tears...she sighed and resigned to wearing the shirt. Finding the menu and happy with the rooms they'd recieved, though she and Jasper wouldn't be using theirs, Alice returned to the living room where everyone else was situated and alone.
"Order something," Alice plopped a room service menu onto Bella's lap.

Bella looked around as she found herself sat in a highly-patterned, but predominantly tan coloured armchair, slightly confused. It seemed that her brain was beginning to stop accepting any new events after the quick succession that had led to her being parted from Edward, making Charlie hate her and had sent her hundred of miles back to the Valley of the Sun with two beings who could not go outside in the sun. She shook her head a little, trying to remove the fog that had set in and turned her red-rimmed eyes up to Alice as she approached with the room service menu.
If Alice and Jasper attracted the gazes of the employees downstairs, Bella served only to scare them away. After leaning for hours on Alice’s hard shoulder, weeping, her hair resembled something akin to a bird’s nest, whilst her clothes were more crumpled than you would have thought it possible. She was paler than usually, to add to the bargain, and the shadows under her eyes combined with the raw redness made her look zombie-like. She swallowed and trained her eyes at the room service menu, not entirely sure that she was at all in a state to eat. She couldn’t sleep again, though, not with Edward’s cold, dead eyes staring at her from her dreams, so maybe the food would do her some good. Plus, she didn’t want to upset Alice and Jasper - they were being so good to her. She wasn’t worth all this hassle and upheaval she had caused the Cullens. She wasn’t worth one single fraction of it.
What if they get split up… what if one of them gets hurt… What if we don’t make it back to Forks… What if there are more of them…
Bella’s mind was awash with hundreds of ’what-ifs’ each adding to the mounting panic in her chest, and to the guilt that consumed her. She licked her dry lips after a few moments of looking and turned back to her Alice.
“I’m not that hungry,” she started, dark eyes flashing from the menu, up to Alice and back again. She noticed that the other girl had not asked her a question, she had given her an order. “But I guess I could get some chicken?”

Alice hadn't like the answer that Bella had given her due partly that chicken would take longer for her body to process, so she did what she had to do to make sure that Edward saw that they hadn't let Bella starve. Sometimes she forgot that humans needed to eat, "Don't worry I'll order you something." Taking the menu back she looked through it herself, "Just get some rest and relax," with Bella's nerves shot it wasn't helping Jasper out she knew that. Alice tried to feel optimistic, despite the circumstances, but with no word from their family and being in an unfamiliar city it didn't help her own mood. Picking up the phone she proceeded to give an order to the kitchen staff, Bella needed protein to build up her strength or it would be both her and Jasper's asses on the line.

Bella looked up at Alice and nodded dully, another twinge of guilt passing through her system. She smiled at her gratefully, feeling the burn in her eyes and the strain at her temples that told her that she was exhausted. She had thought she had slept for quite while in the car, having found Alice’s rock hard shoulder oddly comforting in the time of need, but it seemed that multi-tasking sleep and crying didn’t lead to feeling very restful. She lifted her hand to her head and massage the niggling pain in her temple for a moment, and forced herself to get to her feet. The little bedroom was only a few metres away from the living area of their hotel suite, but it might as well have been miles.
I’m not worth this, she thought to herself, glancing back at the pair of vampires there just to save her if worse came to worst. She tried not to think of what that would mean, if James made it down to Arizona, not when Edward and more of his family were baiting the tracker away. She inhaled through her nose, trying to banish the dismal thoughts, but it was quite difficult. Instead of focusing on the multitude of impending dooms that could be awaiting her love, she focused again on the two vampires with her, knowing that this couldn’t be easy for Jasper - she had never been so close to him for so long before. A small frown creased her brow.
“Any - any word from Carlisle,” she swallowed, resting her hand on the handle to the little bedroom. “Or Edward?”

Shaking her head, Alice put down the reciever, having placed the order of steak and potatoes, red meat was always better to consume than chicken, "They won't call unless for new developments..." she turned to look at Bella at the door, relieved that she'd be taking a nap soon, "They need to have as little contact with us as possible so in order for James to believe that he's still chasing you." The look on her friends face was crushing and Alice only wished that she could provide a little comfort but knowning that there wasn't really anything she could say or do. "Bella," Alice smiled, "Don't worry they will be fine, we're more worried for you." They boys would be able to handle themselves but she was a little worried for her adopted mother and sister, Esme wasn't use to combat nor was Rosalie. Luckily she hadn't forseen any tragedies for her family. Walking away from the phone, Alice went to sit beside Jasper, taking his hand into hers, "Like I said, relax Bella," her voice was soothing, as if she'd just finished singing a lullaby. If Bella hadn't relaxed anytime soon there was always Jasper's talent of calming people and she'd feel bad later for just a fraction of a second.

Bella sighed audibly as Alice told her there was no news, though it did serve to calm her jangling nerves somewhat. She really should have been smart enough to figure that out herself. She could just imagine them running at that impossibly fast speed they found natural, Carlisle, Emmett, Edward together, Rosalie and Esme laying down a false track. She bit her lips together at the thought and forced herself to meet Alice’s gaze.
“Yeah, I guess that makes sense,” she paused, unable to keep her discomfort unvoiced, though she knew that they would be able to sense it anyway. “I just wish… they would. No new is good news, though, right?” she looked sharply at Alice, trying to gauge her reaction - she knew that they all considered her to be delicate, but she didn’t want anything hidden from her about this. She shifted her mouth into a ghost of a smile as Alice told her to relax.
“Easier said than done,” she responded, ruefully, before pulling open the bedroom door and letting herself inside. She took one look at the bed and immediately dismissed any hope of sleeping, despite her exhaustion. Instead she set about pacing the length of the small room, working out some of her anxiety through her tired legs. She was perfectly aware that Alice and Jasper would be able to hear the regular rhythm of her footfall, but at least she wouldn’t disturb them too much in here. Plus, the thin walls would also alert her to any contact from the others, hopefully.

Jasper was worried this whole trip. Not only about the safety of his family . . . but because he would be in very close quarters with Bella -- something he tended to avoid back home -- and he was not sure how well he would be able to control himself. Of course, it was difficult to be so worried when he was constantly around Alice who was always so calm and jovial. He welcomed those emotions . . . allowing them to consume him instead of what Bella was feeling which was a good mix of fear and concern.
As they entered the room, he went immediately to the couch. Even if he was going to be in the same hotel room as Bella, he could still maintain a distance which he knew would be safe for the both of them. He was getting slightly better though. Or at least he liked to believe he was. And Alice was here. She would keep him in line, as she always did. He could not even imagine how lost he would be [and was for a certain period of time] without her.
He turned on the television while Alice and Bella spoke for a little while, and then turned to Alice when Bella was inspecting her room. "She is going to find sleep very difficult," he told her . . . knowing it was obvious, but it was his way of asking if Alice thought he should help Bella sleep peacefully. Jasper often did not make a move without Alice's consent. With her permission, he would do it. With her hesitation, he would not.

Looking towards the bedroom that Bella had gone inside, her light footsteps weren't being masked by the floor, Alice thought about Jasper's offer to calm Bella to sleep. During their ride from Forks to Arizona she'd hardly slept and with as much energy as she'd wasted Bella must have been tired. Of course their human sister, Alice did like to think of her as her sister, would need to be rested if anything delevoped against them and they'd be force to move from their current location. "In time, first she needs to eat," with that she walked towards the door, opening it, to see one of the staff standing there about to knock, "Room service?" A smile broke out, Alice had to laugh slightly at the shocked boys' face, "Yes, I'll take it," she pulled the cart forward and removed a twenty from her pocket, "keep the change." With that she closed the door and made sure that the sound of the boys footsteps were a few feet away before she moved forward.
"Bella, foods here," Removing the tray from the table, Alice placed it down on the coffee table, and placed the silverware next to it, before sitting next to Jasper. Her hand immediately found his.

Bella jumped, startled to hear the raised voice of Alice after the last few minutes of being enclosed with her own thoughts. As she had paced it seemed that the hysterical thoughts she had been keeping at bay whilst in Alice and Jasper’s presence had shot to the forefront of her mind once more. By the time she got to the enjoining door they were almost at fever pitch, though they did not present themselves on her tired exterior.
“Thanks Alice,” she said quietly, brown eyes fixing on the silver phone that lay still unused. She half smiled at Jasper out of mindless politeness and sat on the floor with her food on the coffee table in front of her. She didn’t look at what was on the plate, choosing to stare into the middle distance in the general direction of the phone, wondering if they were alright.
Automatically she began to eat, not tasting anything she put into her mouth. Unbidden images of Carlisle’s calm, but serious look, Edward’s fierce eyes, Rosalie’s glare… Her head dipped a little and she frowned as she realised she was eating steak rather than chicken. She knew she had to pull herself together. They would be fine, she should believe in them more, she just couldn’t believe that she had managed to put them into this position. They would have been better off without her intruding on their lives, like Rosalie said, she was a liability. She couldn’t bear to keep herself away from Edward, though, she knew that was an impossibility. She put her fork down after a couple of bites.
“No news?” she knew there hadn’t been, but just in case…

"No news..." Alice smiled apologetically, she hadn't know what it felt like to be hunted. There were no words of comfort that she nor Jasper could provide to help ease Bella fears or her worries. It had been obivous that telling her that everything would be fine, that she'd seen him following Carlisle and the rest of her family as they lead him to where they needed him, wasn't working. If they didn't calm her down as soon as possible she would have a melt down or whatever happens to humans who stress out to much. Edward wouldn't be happy with what they were about to do to Bella but it was the only way. Had he expected them to tell her lies? Alice knew that he would be reading her mind and she was fine with that. As long as she found a way to relax Bella.
James and Victoria were miles away and would never be able to pick up her scent here. At least that was what Alice had hoped. Instead of worrying about what could happen, she watched Bella eat her food, and almost laughed at the way she barely registered what she was putting into her mouth. It felt good to laugh though it only came out as a small smile.Turning her head she looked towards the t.v. and silently watched the news, nothing interesting so far, it was just local news. Occasionaly her eyes who flicker over to the silver phone sitting on top of her leather bag but to make sure it was still there. She would know when it'd ring.
At least for now Bella seemed calm and Jasper wouldn't have to use his abilities just yet.

Bella allowed a long sigh to escape through her nose, a sigh that was audible even to herself, but she knew that it would be pointless to try to hide it from anyone with Jasper in the room. Plus, she wasn’t entirely sure she had enough room left in her emotional centre for her to be embarrassed by it - she didn’t even blush. Nor did she pick up her knife and fork again, her stomach suddenly unsettled. Instead she pulled her knees to her chest and watched Alice and Jasper watch TV. She tried to be still like them, copy their icy calm demeanour, but it was impossible.
Within only two minutes of stoic staring she was back on her feet, pacing, running her hands through her hair, generally fretting. She didn’t know how the other two could remain so still! Well, she did, but surely the worry must be eating them up too! There must be some kind of sign that this was no ordinary cross-country baby-sitting trip. Her brown eyes surveyed the two vampires, desperately searching for some movement she could take a hold of so she didn’t feel like such a drama queen. Then she saw it. She saw Alice’s eyes flick to the silver phone and back to the TV, so quickly that she would have missed it had she blinked, but she hadn’t. She gasped suddenly. Instead of the realisation making her feel better, pain gripped her chest as she realised that the strong duo were worried, which meant that there was something to be worried for.
“But should there be?” she struggled to get the words out of her constricting throat. “News?”

The gasp didn't come as a surprise to Alice, of course her sudden movement had caused her friend some alarm, "Bella," she began getting up to sit down beside her, hopefully being able to comfort her, "Once they've been able to detain James, and Victoria, than Carlisle will let us know immediately. He knows how worried you are and like I've been saying there isn't anything to worry about. Edward will be fine," she tried smiling for her as she patted her shoulder, Bella's flesh was warm, and Alice soon removed her hand. Would it remind her of Edward's touch? Of course their temperatures were similar but she had smaller hands than her brother.
Looking down at the plate in front of them it was apparent that it wasn't going to be finished anytime soon and she sighed, at least Edward would know that Bella had stomached something to gain her strength. Bella's blood that had begun to smell anemic was slowly fading away with the protiens running through her veins. Alice closed her eyes briefly, her human sister definitely had a sweet smell to her, but opened them quickly to look to Jasper. It was probably best now that he do what he had to do in order to calm Bella down and to rest her weary body.
Edward more than likely wouldn't be happy with them with what they were about to do but it was essential. If they had needed to go on the run again they couldn't have her exhausted and barely aware of what was going on around them. This was all in the interest of Bella's health and mental stability. Hopefully they wouldn't be caught by the person they were about to relax or she'd fight it and make it harder on Jazz.

Bella’s bloodshot, brown eyes, followed the pixie-like vampire as she got up from the couch and sat herself next to her on the floor. She couldn’t lie that her friend’s cool proximity did comfort in many ways, it let her know that she wasn’t alone here, but it also served to remind her of those missing. The rolling guilt began to make light work of her stomach again, if only she could focus on one thing. She closed her eyes and shook her head a little, trying to clear it as she felt Alice’s cold hand on her shoulder. The small hand calmed her further, her touch so different to Edward’s in all but temperature; in that moment Alice truly felt like a sister to her and Bella felt more at ease with her.
“I’m so sorry,” she murmured, her voice barely audible, to her at least. She sighed a little, and looked up at Alice. “It’s not just Edward though, that would be bad enough. It’s all of them out there… they shouldn’t be doing that, not for me…”
She trailed off, her eyes coming to rest upon the cold food in front of her. She didn’t think she’d be able to bear it if anything happened to any one of them. They may not risk death from the encounter, but they could still be damaged, they could still suffer. Just because of her rotten luck.

It was going to be an impossible task to subdue Bella's worry over the safety of the rest of her family. Yes she was afraid for them to but they would be able to take care of themselves and each other, right now they were more worried about the mental health of Bella, it seemed to be suffering more now that everything had happened, putting an arm around her shoulder, Alice pulled Bella close and stroked her face. "I don't see anything happening to anyone, everything will be fine, just sleep, I will wake you up when I see any new development or when Carlisle calls to inform us."
Jasper had been quiet through-out the whole ordeal and it must have been hard on him, she felt the soothing waves rolling off of him and being absorbed into her own body. If they were working on Bella she couldn't tell. "We all have some experience with combat and no one will be alone so there wouldn't be a chance for James or Victoria to catch anyone off guard."
