"No," Jasper quickly protested as Alice claimed that she held him back. It was in no way her fault that he was so eager to hunt. Her smile was contagious as even though he felt immense guilt, he could not help but smile in return. Her reassurance that Emmett would be here soon was comforting -- especially since Alice was the one saying it. Her predictions were often correct though he would not place any pressure on her since sometimes, it became far too intense and a lot for her to handle.
As Rosalie suggested that they go without them, Jasper was unsure what to do. "I do not know. . . " He answered. They didn’t always leave together, but most of the time they did. Jasper turned to Carlise and Esme, waiting for them to make a decision. Whether they left right now or stayed and waited, he would not argue either decision. He was even more hesitant to decide once Rosalie left. He just continued to hold Alice’s hand -- lightly squeezing it -- and stood in the door way with most of his family present.

Carlisle nodded at his daughter as she sped off to find her absent lover. Chances were that there was some game on the TV that he had gotten engrossed with somewhere, he was sure it was nothing serious and it was certainly not a good reason to keep the entire family waiting here - it wasn't just Jasper it was difficult for. He turned to direct his speech towards the other four vampires.
"Rosalie's right, we're just going to Goat Rocks, they'll easily find us. It'll be Emmett's own fault if he misses a tussle with his preferred game because of it," he gently poked fun at his brawny son in his absense and looked around at the others to see if they agreed. He glanced away towards the thick trees in the general direction that they would go and added, nonchalently. "I have to be back before the weekend is out to assess the results of some blood cultures at the hospital, so I would prefer not to spend anymore time gathering here."
He smiled. He didn't really mind his hunting time being cut short, he didn't tend to need much time to hunt, but he did enjoy the time he spend with his family in the wilderness - it was like a picnic. Sort of.

longer she would travel back to Forks with Carlisle, givingEsme watched as Rosalie left to find the currently missing member of their family. Worry furrowed Esme's brow as she wondered where Emmett had disappeared to. It was probably nothing serious, but as a mother, Esme worried.
She turned to Carlisle, wondering what he thought about leaving without Rosalie and Emmett, he was generally the decision maker. She smiled at his remark about Emmett missing out. And listened further to his comment about having to be back to work at the hospital before the weekend's end. It meant that they had a timeline for the hunting trip, but Esme figured that if some members of her family needed to stay, she and Carlisle would leave early, giving them more time to hunt.
"Well I guess we should go then," Esme replied to her family after Carlisle had suggested they do so. "Do you think Rosalie has her cell phone, just in case?" Esme worried. It was natural for Esme to worry about her family, a reaction she couldn't control.

Alice felt Jasper slightly tightening his grip on her hand. She liked it when he did that. They felt together. "Yes, Emmett is just fine at the moment," she said, "Rose did take her cell phone, but the batteries are running low," she said. "But at the moment, nothing bad is going to happen and the batteries should have about 1 hour of life left," she added.
They should go, nothing was in their way and she would see anything if there was, unless it was a werewolf. She hated those things. But otherwise, they would be fine. "Let's go," she finally concluded.

Carlisle smiled at Alice's response, Rosalie had her cell phone and he, as always had his - there wasn't much reception in the wilderness, but it was quick enough to run to the nearest source of signal to make a call. He reached out and put his arm around his wife. "It'll be like they're right here," he told her soothingly, tapping at his own mobile telecommunications device. "Now, I am fairly eager to commence on our hiking trip."
He began to amble off through the woods, propelling his wife with him, a small grin on his face. He walked at a very casual human face, safe in the knowledge that this would turn into a run soon, it was just safer to wait until they were under the cover of a few layers of trees before they made the almighty bound over the water at the back of the house.

"Thank you Alice," Esme said in response to the comforting knowledge she shared.
Esme smiled hugely at her husband as he pulled her toward the forest at a human pace. Soothing her with his words. She too wrapped her arm around her husband, leaning into him, and gently squeezing his side in a sort of hug. Esme sometimes felt ridiculous for worrying so much, but what was a mother supposed to do? The maternal ache had continued on with Esme from her human life into this one.
"I really shouldn't worry so much," Esme commented as they entered into the cover of the trees

Relief swept over Jasper when it was decided that they would leave now. He listened to the exchange of assurances that the others were safe, and would be in contact. He followed Carlisle and Esme out into the woods, still holding onto Alice's hand to keep her nearby. He seldom strayed from her side. His senses were heightened and he already felt something approaching. Being this way certainly had its advantages. When one was hungry . . . nothing was more necessary than abnormal speed.
"Something is coming." He did not say it with as that much intensity; he spoke in a low voice. Surely he was not the only one who could sense something was near. Still. . . he felt the need to vocalize it.

When it was decided that they would leave early and allow Emmett and Rosalie to catch up, Edward felt relieved. He had been struggling with his own thirst ever since encountering Bella. If he was going to stay in Forks, he knew he had to be well fed to allow himself to be so close to her. He also could still hear Rosalie's thoughts and knew that it wouldn't be long before she (and hopefully Emmett) would be joining them.
As the group left for the woods, Edward trailed behind them. He knew that Carlisle was already thinking about leaving early. Edward on the other hand wanted to stay as late into the weekend as possible. He would overcompensate this weekend, trying to make it as easy as it could be in the week to come. He heard Jasper's voice and nodded having also sensed something was nearby. "You should take it Jasper" He said knowing his brother was in most need of the blood.

Carlisle increased the pressure at which he held Esme as she spoke, a little squeeze of comfort. He looked down into her dark amber eyes.
“I love your worrying,” he told her sincerely. Experience had taught him to be calm in almost all given situations, even with the rapid changes in technology, the world was predominantly the same as it had always been, but sometimes he needed something to remind him that it is sometimes appropriate to worry. He dipped his chin to give her a peck on the top of her head and a moment later began to run as they were covered by the dense cover of trees.
It wasn’t long before his senses began to tingle with the presence of something coming towards them, prey, and a moment later he heard Jasper speak to alert them all. He slowed his pace and nodded in agreement to Edward’s suggestion that Jasper should take the first kill, it made sense to all concerned. And it would mean that the newest member of the family could enjoy the rest of the hunt, rather than being in a frenzied state of thirst. Having no intention of taking the nearby prey for himself and being eager to reach their ultimate destination for the juicier game, Carlisle set off at his fastest speed again.

Esme laughed a single short laugh at her Carlisle's comment about loving her worrying. Guess someone needs to do it, she thought to herself. She smiled sweetly as her husband kissed the top of her head and took off at a run.
Esme followed at her own quickened pace. It wasn't as fast as the others, in fact she was probably the slowest of her family. But she didn't mind, she liked to bring up the rear, she found it almost relaxing to watch her family run ahead of her, usually enjoying themselves.
She took in a breath of the cool air that rushed around her body, blowing her hair behind her, she could smell the warm blood of the prey her family had already alerted them too. She too thought it best to let Jasper take the first kill, and continued on to follow her husband to their general hunting destination without pausing.

Alice followed them all, keeping beside Jasper as much as she could. They could all sense that something was coming. "Jazz, you take it," she said, knowing that he needed it the most out of all of us. Even though she was really thirsty herself, she couldn't bear to see her Jasper in any pain. "Please, it's yours," she added. It was raining, the usual weather for Forks. For a human, it would have been absolutely freezing. It would snow in 2 days, but to wouldn't be very heavy at all.
She smiled at Jasper, waiting for him to take the animal.
