It had been a few days since she'd last seen Bella and Alice had seen what Edward was going to do. He'd want to spare her the pain and danger of being with a vampire, which she thought was a cowards way to go about it. It would be one of the first fights she'd ever truly have with Edward, she'd seen what would happen even if she didn't want to, "You can't do this to her! I saw her Edward, you'll kill her this way!" He hadn't listened to her and instead decided to end things, to erase them from Bella's life, to keep Bella from danger. In reality Alice felt that Edward was the one being selfish. Bella had given up a normal life to be with him and what had he done but throw her away. Thrown away what could have been a beautiful future for the both of them.
"Selfish," Alice repeated softly to herself though the others around could hear it and if Edward were around he'd of heard her thoughts. They hadn't gone to Denali to visit their cousins like she'd insisted but decided to leave on their own for a while so that Jasper could clear his head. Bella had said that it wasn't his fault and Alice had agreed though the sorrow of the event left her feeling heavy inside. He'd hated his weakness. It was just an unfortunate event to happen and luckily the rest of the family had been around to help restrain him. If only she could let him see to help him ease the pain.
Alice stood up, turning away from the window she'd been staring out at, "Jasper," she called out to her love, her husband, her life.

Jasper felt horrible. No. Horrible was an understatement. He always knew that his lack of self control made him weak . . . but this was a whole new level of unacceptable. He had attacked Bella. Bella. Someone who his brother loved. And someone who Jasper should not have let himself lose control around. He was just not used to being in such close proximity with a human . . . and when her blood was exposed like that . . . when he caught the scent of it . . . he could not control himself.
He was so thankful that someone was there to pull him away. But now, he was utterly ashamed of what happened. How would he be able to face them again? But Alice was here . . . with him. And that was all he needed. He could stand being away from the others, so long as the better part of him . . . the part of him that kept him sane and gave him some semblance of humanity was with him.
He turned to Alice with sad eyes when she called his name. "I am so sorry." He was not sure how many times he apologized . . . he could not stop though. It had become a habit. He held her hand in his, looking down at it. Though her emotions were calm -- not unusual for her of course -- he still felt immense guilt. They had to leave because of him . . . they had to leave a place where they were all so comfortable. Alice had to leave because of him, and that was what he hated most of all.

He was eating himself up over everything that had happened and he'd apologized profusely since the event had happened. Jasper's sad eyes told her everything he was feeling and it radiated off of him, she could feel it, as she had gotten closer to him. Alice interwined her fingers with his own, though Jasper's own hand engulfed her own, "Jasper," she said softly, with a gentle smile, "You weren't going to hurt her, I saw it, but please," her free hand came up to cup his face, "Bella knows that you didn't mean for it to happen and she doesn't blame you. Bella understands." Alice truly hoped he'd be able to relax but it had shown his weakness to human blood. It would take him longer than another century to cleanse his soul. To ease the pain. "You've been forgiven but you have to forgive yourself," She took his hand and lead him to the living room, they'd rented out a hotel room for a couple of days, than they'd be joining the family again. Where? She hadn't known yet, the decision hadn't been made, but in a day or two she'd call to confirm. Forks hadn't been in her vision a of choices and it sadden her a little. Alice had come to love Bella as if she were one of her own sisters, which one day she knew would happen, whether it be by Edward's hand she hadn't known that yet.

He averted his gaze to the ground . . . feeling too ashamed to look at her. Jasper wanted to desperately believe her words . . . that everyone understood, that it was not his fault, that he would not have hurt her. But the mere fact that he had intended to hurt her was part of the reason he was so distraught over the incident. Her embrace was comforting. Though he did not let go of his actions quite so easily. "I . . . was going to hurt her. If no one was there to pull me off . . . " He did not want to finish that sentence. He did not want to think about how he would have killed Bella Swan.
"I can not forgive myself so easily." He always had to be honest with Alice . . . he would never lie to her about what he was feeling, and she knew him well enough to be able to tell. "If no one was there Alice . . . if I was somehow alone with Bella, you would not have forgiven me either." At that one moment of weakness, Jasper felt that everyone's efforts had be futile. He had just proven that when given the opportunity, he would not be able to fight the temptation. Attacking Bella was a horrible way to discover that . . . but it was better to have that knowledge sooner rather than later.

"But you'd never put yourself in that situation Jazz," Alice called him by his nickname, keeping her hold on his hand, "your stronger than that to know that being in a room with just Bella wouldn't be in your best interest." It pained her to see him this way and no amount of words of comfort would ease his own pain and bruised ego. Though when he had mentioned that she wouldn't have forgiven him there was truth in its entirely but Jasper was her husband and she would have understood eventually. If things hadn't gone the way they'd gone down than they'd of lost more than just one future member of their family. Alice didn't even want to think about what could have. It hadn't happened and that was good enough for her.
"I shouldn't have gone overboard with the party," She began, "I know that Bella isn't partial to anything celebrating her in any way but," a sigh escaped her lips, Alice had been so accustomed to pretending to be human that at times her actions reflected that part of herself, "I just should have known better." For the first time in a long time she, herself, felt ashamed of her own actions and felt particularly responsible for the events that had happened. Jasper shouldn't be to blame but herself for initating everything.
