Sighing, Amber laid her head on Mike's shoulder, suddenly feeling as though she had already gone through the entire day, rather than just the first short hours, wishing she could think of some way to reassure him that she really was okay. She loved having him as a friend, and in a way, it was a relief that he knew about her home life, but she couldn't help wondering if maybe it had been better when he didn't know.
"I'm sorry Mike" she said softly, almost positive now that he was simply worried rather than angry. "I'm just not used to people worrying about me, it's weird, especially when they're more worried than I am. Please, try not to think about it too much, okay? I promise I'll tell you if anything happens. No more secrets. Alright?" She lifted her head, looking up at him, trying to read whether he had forgiven her for her obviously poorly timed joke. She grinned as he spoke again, glad the subject had turned to more pleasant things.
"Ummmm, you know, I have no idea" she said, thinking hard. She was so used to not going anywhere that now that she had the option, her mind was blank as to what she might like to do. "I'm up for anything, I think. Within reason" she added, narrowing her eyes at him slightly, making sure not to leave any glaring loopholes. Knowing Mike, if she wasn't careful she might end up skydiving or something equally outrageous. "I may take out all the fun, but at least I can be reasonably sure I'll come back in one piece." She clapped her hands happily at his last words, glad that things were coming together so well.
"Tomorrow it is then! As long as Dr Cullen's okay with covering for me, though I doubt he'd be too against the idea. He seemed pretty happy when he found out I had a friend at school, he'd probably be even happier to know I was actually doing something teenagerish for a change."
