Mike had his windows rolled down as he pulled into the quickly filling parking lot of Forks High School. It was a rare sunny, warm day, and a lot of the students were dressed accordingly. Mike himself wore a pair of cargo shorts and a white collared polo tee. He pulled into a parking spot and turned off his car. He rolled up his window before opening the door and stepping out into the warm air.
He slammed his car door shut and strode to the front of the school to take a seat at one of the very rarely used picnic tables. he was supposed to meet Amber here, she was helping him with English. One of the classes he was no good in. Since he had first met Amber, the first day she came to the school, he had improved a little bit in his English skills. Not much though. But he was passing.
He pulled out the paper they were supposed to write, having it ready for Amber to proof read. The paper wasn't due until tomorrow, so he had a day to fix any mistakes.

Amber looked toward the schoolyard as she pulled into the parking lot and smiled to see that Mike was already there. Despite his lack of enthusiasm, he was still a good student and she was glad that at least he took study seriously somewhat, if nothing else.
She grabbed her books off the passenger seat and hopped out of the truck, slamming the door behind her, waiting with baited breath for the click that would indicate the latch had caught. It didn't come, as usual. Lifting a foot behind her, she planted it firmly against the door and pushed her full weight on it, grinning as it slipped into place. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she grinned and waved at Mike as she headed across the yard, unconsciously pulling the cuff of her sleeve down a bit again. She couldn't seem to get out of the habit of wearing long-sleeved tops, and it annoyed her that no matter how much she tried, she always crept back into the same old wardrobe. At least today she would be slightly cooler than her foster parents had predicted.
As always, she had changed at the last minute and had ended up in a knee-length denim skirt and black long-sleeved off-the-shoulder shirt over a white tank top and white sandals. She was glad, it was warmer than expected, and she was happy to see that Mike had decided to sit outside.
Reaching the table, she climbed up and sat on the table itself, her feet resting on the bench so that she could look down on the papers Mike had prepared and watch as he made any corrections needed.
"Okay, let's see the damage, Einstein" she teased, holding out her hand with a dramatic sigh, the corner of her mouth curving in a half-smile.

Elaine had been thought about what she was going to do today. She knew she could call in sick but thought that she would have everyone over trying to find out what the true reason was that she would not be there. Elaine was driving down the road to the school now. She was glad that it was finally sunny in this town. She had her hood done on the car. Once she got to the school she parked her car as far away from Mike as she could.
Elaine had gotten out of the car. She was not sure what he would say when he saw her. She was wearing that blue jean mini-skirt , a powder blue halter top, and then some shoes that match the outfit. She had her hair down flowing over her shoulders. She grabbed the jacket and put it over her shoulder as she grabbed her bag. She had her sun glasses on putting the roof on her car up and then stood there for a minute looking around. *No one going to notice me. That much is for sure.* She then pocketed her keys and started to head toward she school hoping not to get noticed.
"Okay I can do this. Now one will see me." She laugh putting on strand of her hair behind her ear.

Mike noticed Amber across the parking lot and waved back. He was grateful that she was here to assist him. As she made it to the table, taking a seat, he handed the papers to her when she asked for them. "Don't spare my feelings," he told her with a smile, "I know I probably did horrible."
After handing the paper to her he turned away, not wanting to see the facial expressions his horrible work would cause . As he turned he immediately noticed the flashy black sports car entering the parking lot. It was hard to miss. And he knew exactly who the car belonged to. Elaine Rhodes. Another one of his many friends. Mike watched as she approached the school. He couldn't stop his eyes from popping in shock and his jaw dropping as he noticed what she was wearing. It was the first time he'd seen her out of her signature, black clothing. And she definitely did not look bad. He raised his hand up high to wave at her, gesturing for her to come over.
It was now that Mike remembered another reason he liked the warmer days. The girls wore clothing accordingly, and cold weather clothing was a lot different than the summer clothing a lot of the girls wore now. Including the girls he was with now, Amber and soon to be Elaine. 'Lucky, lucky, luck...' Mike thought to himself. His thoughts then trailed off to think quickly about what Bella Swan might be wearing this warm day, he didn't care if Cullen was back, he figured he still had a chance with Bella.[Ooc: Definitely weird trying to think like a teenage boy. Lol. I used my little brother as my inspiration for this one. Haha.]

Elaine looked at him and smiled walking over to him. She was hopping that she would not have been noticed before she was out of everyones reach. She decide the best thing would be to get this over with and walk over to Mike which is what she was doing. Once she got there she had put her sun glasses on the top of her head and looked at him.
"Well hello there Mike you did great. I mean look. I am wearing the outfit that is not blue." She twirled so that she could show off all of her outfit out to him. She was not really wanting to turn around and go back to her car and sit there for the rest of the day. She then smiled and laughed. "So you know there Mike Newton. I have wore this outfit now. So I have about 2 weeks till I have to wear it again. Don't get used to it."
Elaine was going wearing black to tomorrow and make sure that Mike saw it. She only was doing this for a deal that was made. *Why is it that I make all these dear that I now want to break. I need to find a way to get out of it before I go crazy. *She was putting her jacket on now so that they would not see her arms.

Amber grinned as she took the essay Mike handed her, rolling her eyes as she saw his glance turn toward the parking lot. Guys were so typical. Give them a warm weather day and the thoughts immediately went from classes to girls. She followed his gaze briefly before turning back to the page, not sure whether there was a reason for her to be interested or not. To her, the girl that had just climbed out of the black car seemed perfectly normal, but to Mike... Amber's eyes flicked to Mike's face, giggling a little at the pure shock on his face. Well, well, well, so she wasn't quite so average after all. Something about her had captured his attention far more than the average girl. She pushed the thought away. So what? It didn't matter one way or the other. Mike was a friend, and if this girl had caught his attention, so much the better, at least he wouldn't be mooning over Bella all the time.
She barely noticed when the girl joined them, absorbed in analyzing the essay. She cringed slightly, not wanting to hurt his feelings, but sure that at least with 24 hours he could bring it up to pass-grade quality.
Glancing up, she saw the girl twirl and nodded in approval. It was obvious there was a little inside joke here, but she couldn't help smiling anyway. She seemed nice.
"Nice top" she said cheerfully, meaning it. Powder blue was one of her favourite colours, despite her habit of wearing anything but. She just couldn't get away with buying clothes that colour, they weren't 'conservative enough' for her foster parents. They liked her to look modest.
"I'm Amber, by the way" she added, remembering that it was likely the girl had absolutely no idea who she was. Even now, there were students who didn't know her. It made things interesting, being able to surprise people when she told them she actually wasn't the newest kid anymore.
"By the way, Mike" she said, balancing her elbow on her knee and resting her chin in her hand, holding out the essay for him to take, smiling apologetically, "I'm impressed with this one, it's pretty good. There's only one problem." She picked her bag up off the bench and fished her own essay out of it, handing that to him as well. "You got the wrong king. It was supposed to be King Henry the Fifth, not the Eighth. I'm not surprised you got stuck halfway through, that play's not for another 3 months." She pointed to the paper she had finished the night before. "You can use that this time, but please" she clasped her hands in mock begging, "Check the lesson plan next time? Or at least stay awake?" She punched him on the arm gently, not wanting to hurt him, and turned back to the new girl, wondering who she was.

Mike snapped his head toward Amber at the sound of her giggling. "What?" he whispered to her seriously. He wasn't sure why she was giggling. But before she could answer Elaine had reached their table.
"It's about time you got out of the black," he told her with a smile. He let his eyes trail up and down her outfit. "It looks nice, you should wear it more often then every two weeks."
"Oh yeah, Amber, this is Elaine," he quickly said, embarrassed that he had forgotten to introduce the two of them. Sometimes he forgot who did and who didn't know each other. Mike knew most everyone in the small school.
Mike groaned as Amber mentioned his essay, and how bad he did. "You know," he said, "I'm really debating on just giving up on this stupid class. I mean really. It's ridiculous. I can never get anything right." He sighed in frustration. English was definitely something Mike didn't care to learn about. I mean he knew how to speak English, what more did he need it for?

Elaine smiled at the girl and nods. "Amber it is nice to meet you. Sorry if it a little strange. I have this thing were I wear black clothes because it slimming." She had to lie a little bit. If she did not then the girl she just meet would know her whole life story. "So I promised him if I got an outfit that was not black I would wear it at least once every 2 weeks."
Elaine looked done at her shirt she was wearing and smiled. "thanks I thought it would look cute with the skirt. " She then looked at what homework they were doing and started to giggle. She knew that if you were going to want to get out of school then he would need it.
"You knew Mike girl's don't just want guys with the looks you have to have the brain's to and well if you don't do where in English I don't know what to tell you." She finally sits next to him and whispered loud enough for Amber to hear though. "You can't impress the girls with those love letter we all like to get randomly in out lockers. If you don't know English." Elaine was not sure if she was the type that like that since she had only one boyfriend before and he did not do that.
Elaine sat back up and fixed her shirt and jacket. She knew that if she wore this again before two weeks was up she would end up getting something on it at the dinner and having to get rid of it for stains.

Amber smiled at Elaine, watching her take a seat, and laughed out loud at the combination of Mike's obvious sense of defeat and Elaine's teasing.
"She's right you know Mike" she agreed, an angelic expression on her face, "Girls love a man who can wax poetic without having to pull a book out of his pocket every 5 minutes. And like Elaine says, looks aren't everything." She sighed wistfully, looking toward the blue sky but peering out of the corner of her eye, trying to keep from laughing again. It was too much fun teasing him. "I love a man I can talk to, nd there just aren't enough of those in this world. I bet Elaine thinks so too" she added, peering past Mike and winking at Elaine, wondering if she'd take the bait. Mike was hilarious when he knew he was outnumbered.
"Besides, if you dropped English, who would we hang out with?"

Jessica was walking when of course she spotted Mike around with a few girls she knew. Was he trying to make her jealous or something? He said he was going to give HER homework help not them. She figured she'd go try to say hi anyway, even though everytime she tried to talk to Mike it was always awkward.
"Hey guys!" she said cheerfully and sat down. "What are you guys doing??"

Elaine saw what Amber was doing and smiled at him innocently. "She right you know Mike. I like a guy that can talk and hold a conversation with out it being about some sport out there that I never even heard of. If you don't have the skills that need to speak like a civilized person then that what will happen."
Elaine then wanted to add more icing to the cake. "Last if you drop English you will fail this year and girls really don't like dating guys that fail because they did not try hard enough. Women have issue I know."

"I haven't had any problems so far impressing the girls," he bragged, "So I don't see what more I need to do. And just because I'm no longer in English doesn't mean I wouldn't hang out with you." He didn't care about poems and all that romantic stuff really.
"Hey Jess," Mike turned to greet her as she sat at their table. He turned back to Amber and Elaine. He wondered how jealous this being around two other girls made Jessica. He laughed internally at the thought. He didn't mean to be mean, but it was kind of funny thinking about it.
"I mean, I'm smart in other subjects. Just ask Jessica, I'm good in math. It's just that dreaded English. And who cares if I fail? Not me." He smirked at the girls. He didn't care really, but he was sure his parents would.

"Oh yeah!" Jessica ensured what Mike had said about himself. "He is really good in math. My personal tutor practically right Mike?" She felt like she was rambling on and on but anything for her to be talking to him rather than two other girls. I mean, she was even somewhat friends with them too, which made it ten times worse. She was pretty sure they both knew that she had previously dated him. Though she tried to hide the fact that she still somewhat cared about him.
"You guys seem like you're having a pretty hard study session here..." she said somewhat sarcastically. "Kinda looked like you guys were talking a little too much to be studying hard."
She didn't know whether her last comment sounded mean or accusing or not but it was too late. Jessica often found that she said things without thinking. She was sure Mike knew that so hopefully he wouldn't get offended. But it was true, she knew Mike was loving this whole attention thing. Somehow he managed to still be popular even when they weren't exactly the best of friends anymore.

Elaine looked at Jessica and smiled. "No Jessica We are studying it is on English. What the best way to study then to use it. " Elaine knew that Jessica and Mike had been dating before. So this was sort of awkward. She then thought that she would change the subject and waited to say something else she just was not sure what.
"okay Mike listen if you fail then you will lose all of us. I mean we will be graduating and you will still be here trying to pass English. So I was thinking about something else. I have a different deal okay. It is you stay in English and pass or I will wear black. What about that for a deal. What you say." She knew that would work since he like her wearing other colors.

Mike turned to look at Jessica. "Yeah," he said, "So if I can be her tutor then that means I'm good. Besides, I don't intend on having a career that has anything to with some old kings of the past." He shrugged his shoulders, turning his gaze away from Jessica. When he looked into her eyes he found it awkward, and he couldn't find a reason to explain why they had broken up in the first place.
"Well Jess," he told her, staring off toward the kids that passed their table, "We aren't studying really. Amber is just telling me how awful my English writing skills are." He knew Jess already knew how bad he was in English.
"Fine, I won't flunk out of English," he said, turning to Elaine. "And now you can't wear black. Ever. Deal." He knew Elaine probably meant that if he passed she wouldn't wear as much black, not that she would never wear black.
But he could try to get her to make the deal. "And since I'm technically passing the class right now," he said with a guilty smirk, "You're going to have to wear colors for the next week or so. That's about how much longer I think I have of this passing stuff. Won't take long for me to mess up and drop my grade."
