"Must be nice" Amber said quietly before she could stop herself, a slight edge to her voice. She quickly shrugged, hoping they wouldn't notice. "Ummmm, so they're the Cullens, huh? Got it. So, Jessica's given me a few hints, anything else I should know before I enter the madhouse?" A corner of her mouth twitched slightly in a smile.
I wonder if it really is a madhouse in there she thought to herself.
"I have to admit, I'm a little nervous. Half the classes here are totally different from what I've taken before. Like Biology, I'm waaay behind in that." Amber was starting to feel somewhat comfortable now, talking to Mike and Jessica. It felt almost like she was fitting in, a new, but very nice feeling. She reached up to tuck her hair behind her ear, a habit she was almost totally unaware of, and caught herself just as her hand brushed one of her hoop earrings. She quickly pulled her hand away, straightening the hair out so it hung evenly, trying to pass the motion off as her original intent, hoping the others hadn't noticed the bruise on her eye. That was something she definitely wasn't ready to deal with.
"Are the classes really hard here?"

"Growing up together?" Mike asked about her comment about something being nice. He shrugged his shoulders. "Eh, everyone knows everything about everyone, so I don't know if you'd consider that nice."
Mike laughed, "Forks High, a madhouse?" Forks High was probably the calmest school around, at least on most days. Not a lot happened there. Most people got along, and if they didn't they usually kept to themselves.
"Nothing to worry about, no on here bites..." he let that sentence trail off. "What happened to your eye?" he asked, briefly noticing the bruise. He didn't think anything of it, just maybe she accidentally hurt herself. His question was just a curious one. But let the question go as he answered hers.
"Eh, the classes aren't too bad," he told her, "As long as you pay attention. Then again, I get a lot of my help from other students." He smirked. Mike knew a lot of the Forks High students, including the smart ones. There were only a few subjects that Mike actually did good in himself.

Jessica smiled. "Well easy for you to say Mike. The classes are alright here. Well, math is my worst subject. But Mike here is going to help me with that this year right Mike?" she said and pumped into him playfully.
She noticed the girl's bruise on her eye and how the girl obviously probably didn't talk about it. She knew she should keep quiet but her wanting to know everything senses kicked in. "Yeah so what happened to your eye? If you don't mind me asking?"

Amber cringed slightly as she they asked about her eye. She'd hoped they hadn't noticed, but evidently it was still pretty dark. She didn't want to answer, but if she didn't, it'd just make them wonder more, and that wasn't a good thing. Taking a deep breath, she prattled off the story she'd been rehearsing all morning, hoping it would seem believable.
"My eye?" she shrugged nonchalantly, "Nothing much. You know how it is, new house and all. I managed to forget how many stairs there were and next thing I knew, I was in close quarters with a hat rack!" she laughed at the clumsiness, almost sure the laugh sounded fake, but making sure to try to 'make the smile reach her eyes' as her dad had taught her when she was little. People only notice if your eyes don't match the smile he'd said one day when one of her teachers had asked why her arm had been badly bruised.
"Well, I know what you mean about math. I'm awful at it too, but I think it's gonna be Science that gets me. Astronomy, that sorta thing, I'm fine with, but when it comes to anything they teach you in school, I'm dead." She rolled her eyes to emphasise the comment, knowing that at least that much was true. She was hopeless a Science, and yes, at Math too. The only class she seemed to be any good at was English, and even that was only because she was a self-confessed bookworm.
She glanced around the yard again, almost hoping that someone else would come over and interrupt, the way Mike had, that they'd spot the little gathering and feel it their duty to make sure the new kid was learning the right ropes. It was completely out of character for her, but at least it would change the subject. She had been panicking that they wonder about her herself, but as usual, the one thing she'd needed to worry about was the one thing she'd almost forgotten.

Jessica couldn't help but study the girl's eye and think of her explanation. It was pretty dark to be an act of clumsiness but she decided to forget it..for now.
She noticed the girl was looking around somewhat nervously. "So where do you come from?" she asked. She always wondered the few people that moved to Forks, why they actually wound up in Forks of all places.

"Oh yeah," Mike hesitated, "Of course I'll help you Jess." Mike didn't really consider himself good in math. Especially next to some of the students, like Eric Yorkie. Stupid braniacs making him look stupid. He shrugged his shoulders and ran a hand through his gelled hair carefully, not wanting to mess any of the intricate spikes.
Mike couldn't help but laugh a little at Amber's comment on her eye. "Nice," he commented. Mike occasionally hurt himself due to his own clumsiness at times, certainly everyone did at some point. He didn't think anymore about the bruise, putting it at the back of his mind.
"Oh yeah, I'm terrible at science too," Mike commented, "I mean really terrible. No good at English either. Maybe you could help me there?" Mike never really got into the whole book reading thing. He didn't enjoy it at all, he rather converse with people than sit by himself and read a book.
Jessica's questions spiked his own curiosity to the girl's origins. "Yeah, where'd you move here from?" he asked too.

Amber bit her lip as the other asked her where she came from. This was the part she always dreaded, and the part that always threw her. Should she tell the truth, or should she make something up? Could she get away with being vague?
Well, they've been nice so far, I guess it can't hurt. I mean, if they're this nice, even if it puts them off me, maybe I can still stick around she thought, steeling herself to tell the truth.
"Well, it kinda depends on whether you want the short or long version. Basically, I'm a foster kid. I ran away from my last foster home back in Idaho, and got caught by Social Services in Port Angeles, and they put me with a family here in town. I guess you could say I moved here from Post Falls, Idaho. If ya want the long version, I moved from Plymouth, Indiana, via Indianapolis, Chicago, Post Falls, and a few other places." She sighed slightly, a cynical smile on her face. "I guess you could say I'm from all over. That's why I'm not so good at classes, every different state has a slightly different curriculum, so sometimes I'm way ahead, sometimes I'm way behind. Usually I'm a bit behind in Math, way behind in Science, on par with Gym and Music, and a few months ahead in English. So yeah, I can help ya, if you want me to."
She glanced at Mike, pretty sure he'd want to retract the request now he knew about her, but not too worried either way. She was more curious than concerned, about how he would react, and how Jessica would, for that matter.

Jessica stared at the girl. She was a foster kid? Wow, sounds alot like a family that we all know around here. Maybe this girl would get along with the Cullens, but then again probably not.
"Oh wow..That's um..alot of places you've lived in. Hopefully you can stay around Forks," she said trying to give a sincere smile. But how this girl sounded, it seemed like she wouldn't be able to last very long. It seemed like she never lasted anywhere long. Though, she probably knows alot of good gossip from normal towns, not boring ones like Forks.

Amber relaxed a bit when she heard Jessica's reply, glad that at least she wasn't dropping her like a hot potato. She didn't seem exactly ecstatic about the idea of Amber being a foster child, she almost seemed to be trying her best to avoid showing that she thought it was weird or something, but the point was, she was trying, and for that Amber was grateful. It was more than most people did, and it made her think that perhaps Forks wasn't going to be so bad after all, at least not school-wise. She thought she caught something else in Jessica's eye, as if the whole foster kid thing wasn't entirely new. Most people seemed to shy away from her as if she had something contagious, like being a foster kid would make everyone around her one as well, but Jessica seemed, well, used to it. I wonder if foster kids are common here she thought, maybe that's why she's not freaked out, it's not new.
"Yeah, I hope so" she replied, smiling more broadly this time, suddenly feeling lighter. The only real worries she had had were already out in the open and so far she had no new bruises, and noone was looking at her like something on the bottom of their shoe. This is a good thing she thought to herself, biting her lip to keep herself from giggling with relief at the ridiculously out of place Martha Stewart impression.
"It's a lot nicer here than most of the places I've been, pretty quiet, and so far the people are pretty cool too, not that I've met many yet. The weather's great too, I love the rain, so all in all, it's definitely near the top of the list."

"Oh that's cool," Mike said in response to the places Amber has lived, "I mean at least you're not stuck in one spot for too long." He shrugged his shoulders. "But I guess it probably isn't," he added. He wasn't bothered by her being a foster child and having been all over the place.
"Forks is nicer than most places you've been?" he questioned doubtfully. "The rain is going to get old real quick," he told her, "And yeah, it's quiet, but everyone knows everything about you. But if that's what you like, Forks is the place for you." He smiled at the girl.
"Well class'll be starting soon," he added, turning in the direction of the school, "What's your first class?"

"Welllll" Amber started jokingly, smiling back at Mike. It seemed she'd made a couple of friends, or at least had the makings of them. "I'm not so sure I like the idea of everyone knowing everything" she teased. "After all, there's something to be said for a leetle meeestery" she said in her most fake Dracula accent.
One of the few things that had always stayed the same was her love for old horror movies and she always got a kick out of the ridiculous voices the directors would give to Frankenstein and Dracula and her other favourite characters. It just seemed natural that if she wanted to sound silly, that was the one she should use. Now that she'd said it though, she realised it sounded, well, dumb.
She thought for a moment. It was the first time in the last 24 hours that she hadn't been thinking about her timetable and her sieve-like memory was already forgetting the classes. She grimaced when it came back to her.
"Ugh, I hope I'm wrong, but I think it might be the dreaded Biology." Groaning dramatically she turned toward the building she had scouted out the previous afternoon and hung her head. "Please, kill me now so I don't have to face the firing squad." She could hardly believe how comfortable she felt suddenly. She wasn't sure whether it was the weather (rain somehow made her feel more in touch with nature, something that always made her happy), or the town, or even Mike and Jessica, but somehow things seemed a lot mroe positive.
"What about you guys?"

"Oh, I have Biology too. We must have the same teacher. Great then I can show you to class!" she said.
"Unless you'd rather find the way yourself but then you might get lost and that wouldn't be good. I heard this teacher freaks out if you're late," she said.

At Amber's unusual accent Mike cocked his head to the side a little and raised both eyebrows. The accent sounded familiar and it took him a moment to pinpoint why he knew it. Dracula. "Nice, Dracula fan?" Mike asked. Mike wasn't himself, but he had heard the accent used around and in some vampire movies.
"Eh, bio is not that bad," he told them, "I unfortunately have the dreaded trig." He didn't do too bad in math. But it didn't mean he liked it. He started taking a few steps in the direction of his next class. He turned to face the girls, walking backward. "I guess I'll see you guys around?"
Before they could answer he turned around and strode to his first class. He knew he'd probably see them between classes or at lunch.

Amber grimaced at the mention of trig, one of the other classes she hated. She felt slightly better at Mike's comment about biology, but not much. It could potentially be better than torture, but she had a feeling that it would still be on par with a trip to the dentist.
She waved to Mike as he walked away, taking a breath to answer but having no time to reply before he was gone. It was going to take some getting used to, blending in here, but she was looking forward to it. The 'new kid' mentality didn't seem so dominant here, something she was glad of. If she could just get through her first few days here without people noticing her much, she would no longer be the new kid and the worry would be gone.
Turning to Jessica, she smiled cheerfully. "I think you're right, it's probably safer to go with you." she chuckled. Despite having memorised the plan of the school, she wasn't sure she was ready to find her way alone yet. "If I know me, I'd barely get there before the class was over!"

Jessica laughed at the girl's comment. At least this girl knew that it was better to make friends with her than well..enemies. She started to walk and waved for Amber to follow her. She looked around wondering where everyone seemed to be, they were probably going to be late to class but not like it made a difference anyway. Classes were such a waste of time, she could be shopping or something more fun.
"So..." she said looking around and racking her brain for something to say. "What kind of things do you like to do?" she asked. She thought making small talk would be alot better than walking in awkward silence. Not like with Jessica Stanley there was EVER silence.
