Jasper had been out . . . apparently for a long enough time for a new vampire to enter their household. He followed an unfamiliar scent and when locating it, saw the new vampire. She looked young . . . of course that was only on the surface. She could be like him: over a century old. Why was she here? That was the main question lingering in Jasper's curious mind.
The fact that his family was being so open to her . . . speaking such welcoming words to her . . . and not to mention the immense ease that Jasper felt from them, reassured him that she was one of the less dangerous vampires. His reassurance grew a bit more when he entered just in time to hear Carlisle ask about her vegetarian way. She was one of them. Which was not common at all . . . no wonder they were relaxed.
He struggled to maintain his composure. When human, blood, and satisfaction were all in the same sentence . . . it only reminded Jasper of why he found it so difficult to become used to hunting animals, and not drinking human blood.
Jasper stood quietly, watching her with that Jasper stare of his. A look of no expression, yet many thoughts going through his mind. He would wait until the appropriate time before introducing himself. He did not want to interrupt their current conversation . . . and he wanted to hear her answer to the question. Was she like him, unused to eating a special diet . . . or had she had these eating habits for quite some time? Either way, Jasper was very curious. And so he stood . . . watched . . . listened.

Rosalie had silently taken a few steps toward Esme and sat hear her, watching as she did. Between Carlisle's abilities in diplomacy and reason and Edward's mind reading, they would surely be able to make Jenna feel safe and free from intimidation as well as be able to unravel any motives she may be hiding in the same string of gestures.
The girl had not expressed any outward malice, and Edward's growing ease with her in the room indicated that her thoughts were in sync with her story thus far. Jenna's recounting of her experience as a vegetarian made Rosalie wonder how she felt with the difficulties. After several centuries, there were still struggles once in a while for Rose. Just as she was about to prod further, when she saw Jasper enter the house. She wasn't sure what Jasper would think about this new guest, but she was sure he would relate to her issues with this particular diet.

Jenna straightened her stance in an awkward as Carlisle spoke of her diet and how long she had kept it. Eyeing the room she became a little nervous as she remebered the sweet aroma and the satisfying feeling it gave her oh how it had been a long time since she sunk her teeth into the pale huamn flesh. Shaking her head she erased her thoughts of human blood, it was hard to take her mind off of it once she was on that train of thought. Jenna found her fingers tapping her thighs quickly as she noticed another of the cullens enter the room. This one was a tall blonde male with wind swept hair and a slight tensed expression as human blood came into convorsation. Inhaling deeply Jenna decided to explain it all,
"Carlisle im sorry for my sudden uneasiness but with being alone and trying to stick to this diet for the past twenty years without the help of others i have had mishaps and i still have difficulty when the certain subject of human blood is mentioned. I fed off humans for over one hundred years and then i made the decision of changing my diet. I just started feeling guilty for the ones i fed on."
she stopped her words cut short as she inhaled once more. The sweet smell of that huamn essence stiil remained and it was burning in her nose but she kept herself controlled, even so her face showed atiny mask of what would be taken as pain.

Carlisle watched Jenna’s reaction carefully, as always cautious with newcomers, no matter how resilient and at peace with their way of life they were. He also noticed the entrance of his newest and perhaps most suspicious son, Jasper, though he resisted the urge to turn to greet him while the attention was focused upon Jenna. He didn’t want to appear to be rude. He also felt a vague spasm of guilt for having mentioned human blood, knowing how hard Jasper still found it to deal with their vegetarian lifestyle. It was this thought, however, which turned his mind full-circle, back to their new acquaintance. His curiosity piqued once more as he wondered whether she could be as unusual as Jasper and Alice in finding her own conscience after living as a normal vampire for an extended amount of time.
“You don’t have to be sorry, Jenna,” he told her quietly. What she had become was not her fault, after all, and he tried not to begrudge others of his kind that shunned the vegetarian lifestyle, it wasn’t what they were built for. He smiled at her encouragingly. “It is enough that you try and that you carry on trying. We’ve all made mistakes…”
He gestured to his family as a whole, including himself in the various slip ups they had experienced through their lives together. He never blamed his family for these mistakes, though he invariably regretted the loss of life - even for the men in Rochester, where he had turned a blind eye - even for criminals, he liked to allow human life and laws to go on untainted by the influence of his kind.
“It speaks a lot for your character that you came to the decision to forsake humans on your own compulsion,” he commended her, genuinely impressed. “And for twenty years as well…”

It was a rare day that Bella Swan went through without seeing or at least speaking to Edward Cullen. Even when he was away hunting she liked to have constant contact with him to waylay the sensation that this was all finite time. The more they spoke about ’forever’ the more she felt the need to clutch to their time together. It was in this state of mind that she found herself retiring in at rather an early hour - she wasn’t in the mood to stay up with Charlie and she had a mightily disconcerted feeling about Edward’s absence. As far as she was concerned, the sooner she got to sleep, the sooner she would wake up and see Edward.
Happily, she fell asleep quite swiftly, which would have been great had it ended there, but Bella never slept well when she wasn’t being comforted by Edward’s cool arms. She tossed and turned fitfully for three hours, her dreams filled with vivid images of vampire deaths, of amber eyes mingling with the crimson of freshly spilt blood. Of Edward surrounded by a growing mass of vampires, each with the faces of James and Victoria. She saw his eyes latch on to hers, she was lost in them even as he dismembered and set alight before her eyes. She was held captive by their dazzling effects, only broken as the smoulder of the fire melted them away for the last time. Then it was too late. The playful amber lighting was gone forever and she found herself plunged into darkness black as pitch. There she ran for what seemed like hours and hours. But there was nothing. Just pure, unadulterated nothingness. She was simultaneously overwhelmed by the emptiness and crushed by the claustrophobia. She searched and she searched, but she couldn’t even say his name, like the word had become a miniature black hole, sucking everything away in his absence.
She sat bolt upright, all of a sudden, hyperventilating at the dream as she feared it was still going on - it was incredibly dark in her bedroom. It was only the red light of her digital display clock that calmed her breathing enough to think clearly. Almost clearly. She jumped up from her bed, grumbling a little as she got the quilt trapped around her ankles and stumbled into the door, loudly. She snapped her light on regardless and stalked out into the hall in time to see the light go on in Charlie’s room. That was all she needed.
She raced down the stairs and picked up the phone, dialling the first number that came to her head, one that she happened to have only memorised recently. Bella hadn’t been friends with Amber Jefferson for very long, but she knew instinctively, that she could count on the other girl to pull her through a scrape. And she desperately needed to see Edward - she had no idea what time it was, but she needed to see him. Thus she quickly explained her situation and created an alibi to spin to Charlie just as he came down the stairs.
Bella didn’t need to work to create tears in her eyes and voice as she passed on the story of the rough time Amber was going through. Charlie wasn’t keep at first, he offered to give her a ride over to the other girl’s house, but, eventually, she managed to persuade him that Amber just needed some girlie company and that she would be back after school the next day. She felt incredibly bad for lying to Charlie, finding that she had to do it more often these days than she was comfortable with, but this was a necessity. She quickly dressed herself without a thought to what she was actually putting on and flew to her truck, kicking it into life with a ferociousness uncommon to her.
It was a few, long minutes later that Bella slowed to find the turning to the Cullen mansion, but it felt like it had been a life time. She could feel herself getting more worked up by each added second. What if he wasn’t there? What then? She stopped the truck in the drive and began to edge her way to the dark house, taking it slow in an attempt to control her breathing and her racing heart.

After a few minutes of the discussion between Carlisle and Jenna, Rosalie started to truly believe that she was a vegetarian nomad, looking for companionship. While Rosalie had always had her family and was never troubled with loneliness, she knew that Carlisle could empathize with the girl. His many years of isolated living were what had brought him to have Edward join him in this life, followed by Esme and then herself and Emmett. This stranger had somehow found the strength to follow her conscience after many years of crumbling under her instinct. Rose wasn’t sure she would have been able to do so on her own. Carlisle had always been there for her and they all supported each other.
As Rose watched them learn about their new visitor, she heard the approach of a disturbingly familiar vehicle on the road that lead to their home. It was a deep rumbling that Rose had always had the urge to tinker with since she’d first heard it, but had refused to even approach it on principle. A renewed sense of irritation washed over her as Bella approached, uninvited. Did she think this was her home now? That she could just show up whenever she wanted to? Her irritation was directed towards both her and Edward, though slightly colored with worry. Bella’s scent had lingered only slightly, which could easily be explained as an acquaintance, since they were prone to interacting with humans. But one of them calling at this hour was something not so easily masked. This was the reason she shouldn’t be here in the first place; it violated the one law that protected them all. Her face remained blank and unworried, but her thoughts slowly churned an anger that was similar to the one she’d felt when arguing with Edward before. She watched Jenna’s face intently as the burning sensation in her throat indicated Bella’s closing proximity.

Esme silently watched the exchange of words between her husband and their new vegetarian visitor, the initial warm, welcoming smile still plastered on her face. Esme was used to being an observer of conversations, she didn't think anything different of this one, not having anything to add. Esme turned slightly at Jasper's approach into the home, her smile brightening further now that another member of the family was here.
Esme tensed slightly, not making the reaction visible to those around her, as she heard the familiar sound of the approaching truck that had turned down their drive. They hadn't been expecting Bella, at least Edward hadn't mentioned anything, and Esme worried what would bring Bella here. But she also worried about how Jenna would react.
Listening harder she could hear the quick breaths and the quickened pace of the girl's heart and she worried more, hoping nothing was terribly wrong. She turned her head to Edward, hoping and knowing she wasn't the only one that could hear the quickly approaching truck.

Edward heard the unmistakable sound of Bella's truck approaching the houes. Edward was immediately stricken with panic though he tried to hide the look on his face as he went over his options in his head quickly. He shot a look at Rosalie as he heard her thoughts about Bella arriving uninvited. She had been given an open invitation to their house! Whether Rose liked it or not she was a part of their family. He couldn't deny it, and neither could his sister.
He had been hoping one of his family members may have had a thought on the best course of action. Did he meet up with Bella outside the house and make a run for it with her? Would she be fine coming in because this woman claimed she was a vegetarian as well? Should he stay here to explain the situation to her first? By the time that Edward was finished going over his options, he knew that Jenna would have overheard the sound of the approaching vehicle as well and would know there was someone there. He couldn't try to hide her.
"If you'll excuse me, I should attend to that..." He said to Jenna as he started towards the door. He looked around the room briefly, if Jenna reacted badly to this there were enough of his family members in the room to protect Bella. Even if you didn't count Rosalie (he wondered if she would just stand on the side watching). "Its a human visitor...if you're too uncomfortable with that, I can take her elsewhere"

It had been an uneventful day of browsing the shops in Port Angeles and nothing had really come from the trip except a few magazines and a new book for Esme. There a few dresses that had caught her eye, but once she'd felt the material and looked at the designer the need for them had diminished like a lit match. Really Alice needed to take a trip to Seattle or just an overseas trip. When was the last time she and Jasper had visited the city of love? Pulling onto the road that would take her home, Alice put in a CD and put it on low it was nice to listen to oldies once in a while. The music had been of an easier life and more confusing time but it was better than some of the bands that Edward listen to these days. Alice would take Frank Sintara anyday than lets say Celion Dion. What people saw in that woman was beyond her but she did have to admit that she'd seen Titanic twice.
As she neared her home the familiar truck of her human best friend sat in the drive way, Alice parked the borrowed car behind the chevy, "Bella?" Just as she got out of her car there was a unfamiliar scent in the air and with her vampiric speed she made her way over to Bella, standing next to her, "Stay right here." The scent of her family was all around her, she hadn't had a vision of any visitors, which worried her, "Edward," her voice was low but she knew that he would hear her outside along with the sound of Bella's heartbeat. It was a little unusual seeing Bella come here without Edward at her side.

The sound of the truck arriving up the driveway did not skip Carlisle’s attention either - it would be very difficult to one whose ears were attuned to the finest pin drop to miss the veritable roar of Bella’s truck. Despite the obvious fact that this was as inopportune a time to visit if she had picked it out of a calendar, Carlisle remained calm and open. Bella was welcome in the Cullen house at any time, being that it didn’t usually make an awful lot of difference to a race that never slept. She couldn’t be blamed for picking the dangerous time, it seemed to fit in with her tendency to fall into danger’s outstretched arms at any moment. He glanced at Edward as he spoke, giving him a natural looking smile and a nod, attempting to make it look like the situation was normal, though he knew that he probably wouldn’t be able to stall all Jenna’s questions forever.
Try to keep her outside, or at least a bit of a distance from the house, he thought rapidly in Edward’s direction as he moved to the door. I’ll see how she handles it here, though it seems that her control may be a bit of an issue. Don’t worry, we’re all here.
He shifted a little, relaxing his posture, focusing on taking attention away from Bella’s arrival, though he knew that the allure of human blood wouldn’t be dissuaded by an action so subtle. This would either break Jenna’s resolve, or she would surprise them at her impressive control under the surprise situation. However, as he waited for Jenna’s reaction, he also heard the approach of a much subtler vehicle, which could only belong to his missing daughter, Alice. That might help matters, he hoped.

Bella had navigated her way down the Cullen’s dark drive, unsurprised that the house wasn’t plunged into darkness like every other house she had passed on the way. That was the good thing about having a boyfriend that never slept, she supposed, there was no cranky mornings, or tired excuses. Still, she now sat in her dark truck still a few metres away from the garage, wondering if she had lost her mind coming here in the middle of the night. She knew they didn’t mind, well, except Rosalie, but there was nothing she could do about that for the time being, but now that her racing mind had been given the chance to slow down she was beginning to realise that he was going to think she was an idiot. She’d had a bad dream, for goodness sake, no matter how bad it was… It had seemed so real, though. It was with a set frown of frustration with herself that Alice interrupted her in. She jumped, startled by her best friend’s appearance at her side.
“Alice!” she gasped, her head turning abruptly to greet her. As her human reactions caught up to the vampire’s swift approach, Bella’s lips spread into a small, rather set smile. She was always glad to see the pixie-like vampire, even now. “I didn’t even hear your car…”
She turned around, jumping out of the truck at the same moment. However, before she had even finished her sentence, Alice’s expression had changed and she had uttered her warning to her. Bella’s own brow furrowed, wondering what was going on. At the mention of Edward’s name visions of that nightmare flashed into her head again and her head began to race.
“What’s wrong?”

Jenna's body went rigid as the sweet aroma like never she had smelled filled her body her throat searing in glorious pain. The sensation was an old friend she hade to close the door on now as she stood in the Cullen home. Carlisle's words had been blocked from her hearing so it seemed his lips moving but nothing found her ears. Unclenching and reclenching her hands she finally stopped from inhaling her body relaxing now slightly though the painful expression was still laced on her face she knew. Jenna's eyes shifting to each of the Cullens to see their reaction to the aroma, Rosalie looked annoyed, Esme seemed the same only stiffer, Carlisle worried, and Edward concerned and calm it was so odd. Edwards words seemed to question her senses as he dubbed the new comer human as if she couldn't tell. Nodding she managed to speak, "Umm..." she looked between the others quickly watching as the blonde called Jasper's expression slightly resembled her own. Jenna now took another breath and realized another Cullen was with the human, she was happy to know if she couldn't resist their were plenty to stop her from harming the human. ollecting herself once more she sighed, "It is a problem i have grown acusstumed to but at the moment it is most difficult do that i haven't hunted recently." her words were somewhat of telling them she wasn't sure how long she could restrain and she whated to have to ask or tell them to get rid of the human but it was either that or her pushing herself until she cracked. Exhaling once more she choked, "Edward im not sure if i can ummm...." she couldn't finish the smell was groing stronger the girl had gotten out of the vehicle she was standing in the open with the other vampire. Jenna closed her eyes and shook slightly before opening her eyes now calm her body relaxed as she smiled, "Never mind im okay now as long as she doesn't come inside till im gone." she didn't want to leave the Cullen home but she wasn't going to keep their noormal visitors away on account of her thirst at the moment. "If it is okay may i return once my thirst is taken care of?" Jenna let her arms wrap around herself as she shifted her smile held on her face for the moment. She mainly looked at Rosalie for Rose had brought her here and she felt she knew what Rose felt and had somewhat been through she felt it in her bones.

Edward could hear Alice's voice from outside calling to him. Good, someone was with Bella. And he knew that Alice would know to keep her out there, she would see that there was something going on inside. Edward listened to his fathers thoughts as he directed them towards his son. Edward appreciated having his father's support, as well as the rest of the families. He gave a single nod of acknowlegement to his father before turning to Jenna.
"It's alright, she won't come in while you're here. It was good to meet you Jenna" Edward told her, letting the others answer her question of when she could return again. Edward wanted to get outside to join Bella as soon as possible. He left through the front door and moved at vampiric speed to Bella's side. "We're going to stay out of the house for now" He told her softly, not wanting her to feel that she had done anything wrong, or that she wasn't welcome here.

"There's another vampire in the house, a female from what I could hear and she isn't like us," It was all Alice had heard from the time she'd arrived right after Bella, than the woman spoke again, "She's leaving so it should be safe but stay here with me until Edward decides to make it outside. It was just bad timing that Bella had shown up at the house but danger did seem to find her or she seemed to find it. Alice wondered how that could happen but it would be a mystery to her and even Bella.
"Everything will be alright," Alice reassured them, smiling, "Now that Edward's here I'm safe to assume that it's alright if I go inside?" Originally she'd been rushing home to share her spoils with the family, mostly just Esme and Rosalie, but than she'd seen and smelt Bella nearby and that all changed with the appearance of an unfamiliar female in their house.

Bella nodding at Alice, her brown eyes wide and her mouth suddenly dry as she mentioned another vampire. A dangerous vampire, from the sounds of it. Her heart also responded to the news, speeding up a little, accompanying the frown that puckered her brow. Images of her dreams now combined with the nomads that they had faced last spring, making her stomach churn unpleasantly. Lost in these disturbing thoughts, she gasped audibly as Edward appeared at her side, a peculiar mixture of shock and simultaneous relief flooding her highly strung system. Of course it couldn’t handle such a mix and tears immediately, and infuriatingly, shot to her eyes.
“Edward!” she half-yelped, her tone filled with relief, though her brows drew together once more as she heard what he said.
“Because of the other vampire?” she asked, quietly, suddenly realising why Edward had come out so quickly. She wouldn’t be making it easy for the stranger, especially if that stranger drank human blood. Was she putting the Cullen family at risk again? She valiantly hid a sign of self-disappointment and looked down. She didn’t look up as Alice said everything would be okay. It was last time, but she couldn’t see them go through such upheaval again, which was the direction that her imagination had taken them. She bit her lip and forced her head up to look at them, trying to look as calm and unaffected as she could. “I should probably get out the way then, right?”
