Continued from: twilightmoviebook.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=otherforks&action=display&thread=75Carlisle looked up from his thick tome at the faint call from his wife, taking note of his surroundings to distinguish why she would have called. There it was, the scent, still incredibly faint on the air of the upper storey, through the musk of the books and fire. He snapped the book shut with a sudden urgency, having not been privy to Edward’s commentary on the vampire’s intentions. All he knew was that there was a possibly dangerous creature arriving with one of his adoptive daughters for reasons unknown. With supernatural speed he sped down the stairs to be at the door for when they arrived, standing by his family. He glanced at Esme our of loving habit and instantly noted her calm, welcoming expression, which puzzled him for a moment. His gaze lingered and the hard set topaz eyes softened into a questioning façade.
“The visitor?” he asked, eyes now flying between his wife and his son - clearly he had missed something.

"Another vampire" Edward responded to his father's questions. His face showed the concentration he was putting forth to observe the unknown vampire's thoughts as they drove up. Rosalie's insistence that he focus on the other vampire and not herself made Edward a bit worried.
He looked over at his mother not wanting to worry her when she asked him if he was sure it was alright. "There's nothing about her thoughts right now that appears threatening, but Rosalie was insistent that I keep watch of her thoughts. I think its best we're on our guard " He said honestly.

Jenna watched Rosalie's face twist with anger, she tightened her grip on the steering wheel but quickly loossened remembering not to accidentily snap it in two. Hearing Rose begin to speak she quickly ran a hand through her wild like hair once rose said it was near. Glancing over Jenna smiled slightly before she replied with a calm voice,
I am not one to judge by which other speak. Im more of an investigator so i've been told. But im hoping it wont get me into trouble...
Jenna tried to laugh the last part and cursed her nervousness for giving her away. She could tell Rose was still cautious and wondering of her but hoped she would find that Jenna had no agenda and was merely looking for help tainted with some hope. Tapping the brakes as they pulled up outside the large home Jenna paused before she got out and watched as Rosalie zipped out of the car quickly, Jenna had a feeling Rose was worried how her family would take to the odd appearence of a new vampire in their home even if it was for a brief meeting. Jenna looked up into the mirror and smoothed her hair and looked at her eyes a dark topaz. She would soon need to feed but for now she was fine as long as nothing really tempted her, as she stepped from the car and follwed Rosalie towards the house nodding at Rose's gesture to her home. Thinking to herself she sighed, I hope this all goes well. please let this go well... Snapping back she smiled at Rosalie before she cooed,
It's a gorgeous home.

Rosalie sensed a bit of nerves emanating from Jenna. Well, good. She didn't seem like she had any poor intentions, but it was easy to lie to Edward in thoughts if one concentrated. But then again, one would have to know of his ability in the first place. Glancing at the windows that were nearest the sounds she heard from within the house, her expression took a graver tone. Of course they were preparing for the worst, not like the girl had a chance. It may be overdoing it on her part, but maybe Edward realized how much of a liability his stupid human girl was to have around.
Though she knew the girl heard the bustle from within, she faced her and nodded," Thank you." She lead the girl to their front door, walking through gracefully and stepping aside to let the girl in. "Carlisle?" she called in a normal volume.

Carlisle nodded at Edward, his intelligent eyes shifting from his son to the front door as his keen ears picked up on the sound of the car as it turned up the long drive. By the time it had parked and he heard the two vampires emerge, his expression was set into a cautious welcome. He was fully prepared to welcome the vampire if she was as unthreatening as she seemed, but he would make no compromise over territory and hunting practices. He walked through to the porch as he heard his name being called at a normal level by his eldest daughter.
“Rosalie,” he said her name as a greeting, his eyes sliding from her to fix themselves on to the visitor. He instantly noticed her dark topaz eyes, which instantly piqued his curiosity. A vegetarian? How long for? She looked hungry though, her eyes were so dark. Another vampire in Forks - the town seemed to be becoming less safe by the minute, despite any intentions that the vampire had, they were, by nature, unsafe.
“Hello,” he said to the stranger, his voice penetrating and confident. He cast a small and controlled smile at the vampire, trying to gauge her mood. “I’m Carlisle Cullen, as you may have guessed.”

Jenna hurried up the steps only inches behind Rosalie she stopped abruptly at the unreal feeling to this all, she was about to meet Carlisle and she couldn't quite grasp the realness of it all. She had traveled so far to meet this man and she could sense him only feet away from her, he was surrounded by his family she could tell. As Rosalie beckoned for Carlisle Jenna took a breath in and just picked up the faint hint of human, but she cast that aside as a tall pale man with blonde hair emerged through the door a smile on his calm serene face. She forced a calm smile over her self as she listened to his kind words before she answered him quickly,
Yes...i had a feeling.
She laughed her words, trying to calm her nerves even the slightest bit as she continued,
I'm Jenna Louise Rider...and im sorry to be a bother as i've told Rosalie.
she averted her eyes to watch Rosalie to see if anything had changed about her presence.

Carlisle’s smile widened as the new vampire introduced herself. He inhaled as she spoke, matching scent to name and face, as was his custom to do with every one of his kind that he met. It was safer that way. He shifted his weight where he stood.
“You’re no bother at all, Jenna,” he told her, easily allowing her first name to roll across his tongue in speech. “Please, come inside.”
He turned to gesture to the inside of the immaculate house, leading the pair of them to the other members of the family. It often helped when meeting a strange vampire, to be clear on the fact that they were a large coven not to be trifled with. The sheer number of Cullens tended to dissuade most visitors from attempting poach territory or cast a challenge out to them. This was the main point in the tactic, to avoid any kind of confrontation, Carlisle preferred this to fighting. By this time of his life he was quite experienced in the art, but he had never enjoyed a fight, not one - it just seemed so empty, pointless. In his mind everything could be settled through speech and open-mindedness. Unfortunately, there were all too many people, humans, vampires and werewolves alike, that didn’t possess these qualities and the fight was inevitable. At first glance, however, it seemed that Jenna was receptive to meeting the vegetarian vampires rather than challenging them. He wondered just how much she knew of their way of life, wishing he had longer to speak with Edward.
“This is my wife, Esme and my son, Edward,” he went to stand beside Esme, knowing that her welcoming smile would work to offset any awkward questions he had to ask. His amber eyes travelled to Rosalie, the curiosity just visible beneath the calm veneer he portrayed - there was only one other time he could recall that his eldest daughter had brought someone to see him, and that was Emmett a long time ago. “The rest of my family are close by, so please excuse them if they intrude on our meeting.”

Rosalie quickly registered Bella's lingering scent, her thoughts immediately bringing forth the irritation she had spent the whole evening trying to swallow. Of course, it had much to do with her argument with Edward just hours before. Knowing Edward would be prying again, she instead distracted her thoughts elsewhere. She says she heard about us from some nomads that have come through here before when she was in Montana. They didn't exactly... approve of our lifestyle. But I don't know what else she heard. She quickly recalled the conversation for Edward, mentally grimacing at the disrespectful words about Carlisle that had angered her.
She followed the girl as Carlisle lead them deeper into the first floor, also following his lead. It was customary for them to demonstrate their numbers, power and dominance with a simple invitation to their home. Visiting vampires would always leave befuddled with regards to their diet, but would never doubt the family's power and strength. She kept her expression blank but calm when Carlisle looked at her. Decades of living with him and regarding him as her father had made her sensitive to his expressions, however minute they may be. She wished she could explain to him what it was made her bring the girl to them. At this point, only Edward knew the conversation they'd had. "Jenna here was just telling me about the nomads that had told her about us," she said conversationally, though giving a significant glance to Carlisle. "It seems that we've left quite an impression on them."

Jenna smiled at Carlisle's calm and collected presence he seemed to calm her more, as she relaxed she nodded at his invitation to go further into the house watching as he went to stand beside a beautiful auburn haired woman with a kind welcoming smile. Hearing his introductions for her and the dark haired male who stood close by along with the warning of the others slipping in at any moment she nodded as she smiled,
It's a pleasure to meet you Esme, Edward. Oh it wont bother me any, its just nice to see others.
Jenna turned as Rosalie moved to join the others, she had wished Rose hadn't moved away from her but it was only suspected of her. Straightening her pose as Rosalie explained how Jenna had come to find out about them, Jenna shifted uneasily now as she let her eyes scan all their faces repeatidly. Jenna's mind wandered a little as she waited for the others to replie she had started to feel like an outsider once more that had intruded in on their happy home. But she wouldn't stay long only as long as she was welcome and then she would go on her way with or without their help.

After hearing a few thoughts that indicated her sitll irritated mood, Edward listened carefully to Rosalie's recap of the conversation she had earlier. He clenched his teeth briefly to keep from reacting further to hearing what the nomads had said about Carlisle. If he had heard them actually say the words, Edward knew he would have attacked them on the spot. He wished that he had the ability to send mental messages back to Rosalie, asking her what she thought Jenna's opinion on Carlisle was, whether or not she agreed with the nomads.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Jenna" Edward told her in a friendly manner, not picking up any hostilities coming from her yet. Edward's demeanor towards the girl would indicate this to the others. If he had been more standoffish, they would have known he had detected something.

Esme kept her smile welcoming as the new vampire came into their home. Once Carlisle was at her side, she simply reached out and took his hand in hers. The gesture was comforting.
She nodded at the girl before her and gave her her own welcome. "Welcome to our home Jenna," she said, "It's a pleasure to meet you too."
The girl looked friendly, and her eyes were like theirs. Esme found this interesting, it was rare they met any that had eating habits like theirs. Certaintly she meant no harm, and Edward hadn't said anything about her thoughts. In fact, Edward was being friendly to the girl. Esme relaxed almost completely now.

Shifting at a rather quick speed she inhaled again taking in that sweet armoa once more it was stronger in here than outside and it puzzled her. She racked her mind as to why a human would be inside and laughed to herself remembering the Cullens held a residence in the town and of course interacted with humans on a normal basis. It was just probably a old scent left behind from a past visit, Jenna still wondered how they managed to stay in place for so long without being figured out. She would figure that in time not that it mattered to her anyway she was just really happy to not have them trying to burn her to bits. Hearing Edward and Esme's words she nodded and smiled,
Thank you Edward, Esme. And Esme may i complement you on your home it is gorgeous. You have done a good job capturing the lived in feel of it all.
She did mean it she wasn't trying to suck up even if it seemed that way. Jenna really thought of how lucky edward and Esme were to have Carlisle and Esme to have that mother and father figures for eternity. She began to envy it in ways, the thought of knowing they would always be there for one another and that was something she needed and wanted deeply down in her well soul if she had one. Knowing they all had questions for her she decided to open herself to them straitening her pose she smiled,
I know you all are wondering why and what im doing her and i will take your questions in stride and anwser them as best i can.

Carlisle’s small, calm smile grew a little as Esme’s small hand poked itself into his. He wrapped his own larger one around her nimble fingers, holding it with a light, but comforting pressure. He raised a deceptively delicate looking blond eyebrow at the information that Rose added, curious to know where on the scale of scorn and disgust those particular nomads rated them. He allowed his grin to widen to flash his sharp, dangerous teeth - in a friendly manner, of course. He nodded his head at her, politely.
“Thank you for your frankness, Jenna,” he said, his voice low and confident. “You may understand that it’s often important for us to get a good read on our visitors - for security’s sake.”
Of course, he meant ’read’ in both manners, Edward’s extra ability was so useful in these chance encounters. What really intrigued him, however, was just what aspect of the nomads’ account of their residence and lifestyle drew Jenna to them. It wasn’t something he had encountered before! Their way of life didn’t often attract any followers from outside of the family - only Alice and Jasper, which owed more to Alice’s ability than anything else.
“We made an impression, did we?” he asked, his voice sounding amused, though the fact that there was talk of them abroad was slightly disconcerting, especially if they were giving the impression that they were weak. “What was it that caught your attention?”

Jenna straightened her stance as Carlislespoke she tried to show him as much respect as she could without telling him just trully how much she looked up to him. Hearing his praise and the questions that followed she smiled and nodded,
I do understand Carlisle. I know you all must keep a close eye on the visitors that pass through Forks. So to protect your family's place here.
Jenna had maybe said too much but she felt it would be fine, so she had continued. She found her fingers tapping her sides rythmically she had an urge to grab a pen and pad and write doown the tune and lyrics that began to bubble in her head. She went into that little music filled place and began to repeat the words in her head and lace the tune to them it would seem, a new road shows itself, the peices are falling...into place, never will it end my road is neverending only redirecting, it has brought me far... and now here i stand in the presence of greatness, they all are above all in my eyes, perfect so it seems.. Shaking her head she shoved the tune away and kept the lyrics fresh with her tune. It was neither the time nor place for her to take to writting and she only hopped no one had noticed her glazed out look when she fell into her own world. Hearing Carlisle's voice and question Jenna smiled before she answered,
Well i have barely heard of others with such a diet as yours so i took to the test and have found it quite nice indeed. Even though it is hard to resist at times, but i think i have mastered it slightly. The roughest thing though has been attempting it alone to tell you the truth and in ways has made it easier for me to concentrate.
Jenna stopped and waited for them all to take in her little yet strong words. She knew it would pull suspicion as to why she had decided to follow in their steps and take the vegetarian route, but Jenna had made the choice it seemed right to take that path and she was proud of her decision.

(OOC: We're in the middle of the night, aren't we?)
Carlisle kept his smile fixed as he listened to Jenna’s response. He was reassured by her sensible words regarding their cautiousness, understanding was really key to acceptance and trust. However there was one thing he was a little unsure of.
She found it ‘quite nice indeed’? he mused to himself, finding it difficult to apply those particular descriptors to their choice of lifestyle. Morally, yes, it felt much better, to Carlisle it felt soul-saving to be able to deny the urge to feed. He knew it wasn’t quite so black-and-white to others in his family, but he was fairly sure that none of them found it ‘nice’. He quirked his eyebrow a little, his expression merging into a sympathetic one.
“It is difficult to be alone,” he admitted, his tone dipping as he brought forward his own personal experience. It wasn’t that the thought of the loneliness hurt him anymore, how could it when he had such a perfect family now? He would never feel alone again, but his frozen memory still recalled that empty feeling in the pit of his stomach, in his chest. He remembered standing over Edward in that dingy disease-ridden hospital, feeling the loneliness bubble through his body, forcing the venom to pool in his mouth as he made the conscious decision to bring the young man into his world.
“So how long have you been following the vegetarian way? It seems quite unusual to adopt it on a whim on hearsay, with the satisfaction gained from human blood.”
He pushed the words ever so slightly, hoping that if she was hiding anything, that mention of human blood with bring to the surface something of her true intent.
