Character Basics
Name:Jack Harkness
Nickname:Captain, Jack, Jack boy, all the varying pet names that exist and some choice curse words
Age: 29
Appearance
Looks: Jack is your stereotypically good looking man, tall and lean, but muscular. He has brown hair, which he wears styled peaked up over his forehead most of the time, the back and sides of which he keeps short. He has twinkling blue eyes always full of mischief and a magnificent, expressive smile with a mouth full of straight, white teeth. He usually has a degree of a five o’clock shadow on his chin, and his cheeks are dimpled when he flashes his smile.
Clothing-wise, Jack always favours the military look, despite the fact that he spends his working day in a uniform. He wears a navy blue greatcoat at all times, which used to be his father’s and underneath it he favours a shirt with slacks, which are kept up with both a belt and old fashioned braces. He does, on occasion wear a simple t-shirt, but you won’t see him much more casual than that.
Scars, tattoos, other marks: A small scar on his left buttock
Portrayed by: John Barrowman as Jack Harkness
Personality and Stats
Basic Personality: Overall, Jack is a nice guy, he’s easy to get along with and has a natural outgoing personality that doesn’t feel forced, even if he’s only been with someone for a few minutes. He has always been a flamboyant soul, even as a young child and had been coined as an ‘unique’ individual since he was old enough to dance around the base in his underwear, singing along to Joseph’s Technicoloured Dreamcoat. As he grew older this flamboyance turned to flirtation and he has grown to appreciate all living creatures equally, seeing no reason to restrict his wondering eyes. He does have a serious side, however, which helps him in his chosen career as a police officer. He has a natural protectiveness and will to serve that brings out his business face. If he ever sees someone in a vulnerable position, he does whatever is in his power to help them, though he does occasionally like to think that he knows better than others around him.
Species: Human
Abilities: Flirtation and he’s fairly handy in fight
Occupation: Police Officer
Car: Large, black Range Rover
History:
Birthplace: Fort Riley, Kansas
Family: Mother surviving, Hayley (younger sister)
Friends: Donathan Stevens
History: Jack was born to an army captain and a young woman at the US Army base camp, Fort Riley, in Kansas. He came as somewhat of a surprise to the decorated officer, but, nevertheless, the little family unit was a loving one. As with most army children, Jack was moved around a lot in his early years, which he just took in his stride as ‘normal’ existence. He spent a lot of time around the other men in the barracks, though his mother and taking care of his little sister had an eternally feminising influence over him – it seemed they overcompensated for the otherwise almost entirely male company he kept.
By the time he was a teenager, Jack already knew that he wanted to become something worthwhile, to serve his country in some way. However, his own father dissuaded him from joining the army due to Jack’s propensity for believing his way was best and occasional disregard for orders. This disappointed Jack slightly, being that he strived for his father’s approval in all he did – the other boys on the base respected him so much. However, a few years later, when he was seventeen, Jack’s father passed away; ironically he was on his way to the transport overseas and got run over by a bus full of his men from the barracks. This hit Jack quite hard, but with some help from his mother and sister he set off on the path to become a police officer.
With some hard work, Jack was soon cruising along life’s path, easily happy in his role as vaguely trusted with no responsibility to think of. However, the police force in Seattle were beginning to look to him for promotion and a possible desk job. As soon as he got wind of this, Jack signed a transfer form to the first place he saw vacancies – a small town not too far away called Forks. He jumped at the chance to live in the small town, where he could be close to his mother and sister and continue with the job that he loved.
