There were no clouds in the sky today; it was clear as a gypsy’s crystal ball. As far as anyone could tell all of the birds had left for a warmer climate during the winter months, for none crossed the sky; at least not this day. Despite the lack of objects higher up, the temperature wasn’t so bad—seventy-nine at the most. For the middle of the day it was awfully quiet, which disturbed Noel a little for she couldn’t quite understand why people would be inside on such a beautiful day. It was one of those days that made her want to run just for the Hell of it. At home she’d race her dad around but he was on a buisness trip, but running around a block or two would hopefully give her the same satisfaction. '…Maybe after lunch.’
Sitting quaintly outside the grocery store were four child’s car rides; a fire truck, a police car, a race car, and a monster truck—each just two quarters to ride! On the back of the fire truck sat Noel, cross-legged with a box of Cheez-Its and a two liter of Coke. Popping a hand full of the cheesy crackers into her mouth, the girl leaned back on her hands to take a look around. Life was good up here on the truck—most of the people that passed just gave her a weird look and moved on without saying anything to her; even after she gave them a toothy, Cheez-It-filled grin. They thought she must’ve been crazy, she knew, and now she was just waiting for the store manage to come out to tell her she was scaring off his customers…or for the police to catch her for loitering. However, she had a plan for the latter: Put a couple of quarters in the fire truck and take a ride, then she wouldn’t be loitering. She’d be some crazy girl riding a little kid ride with a box of Cheez-Its, but she wouldn’t be loitering.
Taking a swig of Coke, Noel moved her brown eyes across the street to the various shops around. They were all so colorful that she was tempted to take a look in one or two, but quickly sided against it. Her money needed to be saved for things for her car if needed. And with that the day dream began, a Cheez-It waggling up and down between her front teeth as she absent-mindedly nibbled. Her black flip-flops were down beside the fire truck, deep grooves worn into them from the wear and tear of walking from school to the store everyday for her lunch.
It wasn’t so bad here, but she never expected it to be. Sure she hadn’t made a single friend during her week at the school, though she herself was mostly to blame for that. During the beginning of the week she had been so caught up in getting her things set up and her classes scheduled that she hadn’t stopped long enough for anyone to say hi to her. The later part of the week had been more relaxed, though she was way behind in all of her classes on account of her not getting here until later in the year after the start of everything. Now, however, she had time to relax and Noel figured she had found her little happy place right outside the grocery store upon the fire truck.
‘IGA,’ she pondered, ‘I wonder what it stands for. International Grocery Association?’ With a chuckle she shook her head and took the first look at the Cheez-It box she had taken since she got the thing; half empty. “Damn.” Her face scrunched up as she wondered whether she should go ahead and finish off the box or save it for later. The skin that stretched across her face was paler than it should have been for at home she spent almost the whole day outside…yet she looked like a city girl who spent the entire day inside. This was something that bothered her deeply; one of her few self conscience points.
Per usual she was in her jeans—always she made sure to get them a size bigger so that they did not bind her while she tried to work—and a white tank top with a tight jacket over it, unbuttoned due to the heat. Two of those unusually pale fingers pulled her sunglasses down to block out the sun, since nature wasn’t doing a very good job in that perspective. Slowly her mind shifted from buying new car things and Cheez-Its to the book that lay beside her; Blue Bloods. It was a book about vampires of all things, this thought tickled her given her canine like circumstances.
One more handful of Cheez-Its and another chug of Coke later, and the book replaced the snacks in her hands, eyes fleeting across the pages in excitement of what was to come. Her hair was still set aloose, caught somewhere between raven wings and black, and blocking her view of her book. This was cause enough for her to whip her head to the side when the wind picked up again and take a bite at her hair, catching a mouthful. Now she refused to let go of it as she continued her reading, her tongue curled up tightly in the back of her mouth for she was sure her hair was not as tasty as the Cheez-Its.
Soon her mind was lost in the book and she sat unmoving upon the fire truck, snack and drink sitting in the driver’s seat. There were still several hours before she had to be in class so there were no hurried looks around for a clock; just concentrated reading, an occasional chuckle, and the continuous battle between her hair and her sight. Before too long one could speculate that she’d have every strand of hair captured in her mouth if she could fit it all in.

Quil was starving! His appetite seemed to still be expanding every week. The whole group of them had huge meals together regularly but that still didn't stop Quil's stomach from growling now. His kitchen had been pretty much cleaned out, leaving him with very few options, so he found himself headed to the grocery store. He couldn't quite decide what he was in the mood for. The better tasting things would be things he would have to buy and take home to prepare. Or he could grab something that was ready to eat now.
As he walked up to the grocery store he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a black t-shirt. He had grown accustomed to walking around the reservation without a shirt or shoes as it was much quicker when he needed to change, but he thought that walking into a store serving food shirtless may cause suspicion. He pulled it on over his head, looking down and seeing it a was a little bit tight. He seemed to be getting even more muscular. Alright! He cheerfully thought, loving the advantages of being a werewolf. He looked down briefly at his bare feet. He didn't bring footwear with him today so he'd just have to hope no one spotted him and decided to enforce the common "no shirt no shoes no service" rule.
As he approached the grocery store he saw a young woman sitting on one of the firetrucks meant for children. He saw an opened box of cheez-its beside her, a coke and that she seemed totally engrossed in a book. It caught Quil's interest and he walked over, a smile on his face. He lowered his head and twisted it at an angle so that he could read the title of the book.
"Interesting read..." He commented, then pointed at the cheez-its. "Mind if I take some?" he asked.

Stepping past the threshold of the doorway into the tiny house he shared with his mother, Embry concentrated on not slamming the door on the way out. Another fight. Well, you can't consider it a fight when only one side was doing all the arguing and yelling. Like almost every other day, Embry just stood there dejected, taking his mother's frustrated accusations without a word. He'd heard it time and time again, but there was nothing he could do about it. If he told her about the pack, he wasn't sure he'd be able to stop himself from asking her exactly how it was that he was part of it. It wouldn't just implicate her, but also one of the Quileute tribe leaders. Of adultery. Embry shoved his trembling hands into his pockets and walked away from his house. He wasn't doing it.
Thankfully, it was his mother's day off from the store. It would be the one place she wouldn't be. Walking slowly down the beaten road, he worked himself into a calmer state of mind. It was eaiser before this whole werewolf mess; he was naturally laid back. But by the time he saw one of his brothers, barefoot and barely dressed like himself, he grin showed up easily on his face. "Hey, no harrassing the new girl," he called out before reaching them.

Quil turned his head slightly with a laugh hearing his brother's voice as he approached. It seemed they both had similar thoughts of where to hang out today.
"Hey, there's no harassing going on over here, just making new friends" Quil said with a smile back at the young girl on the fire truck. He hoped that he and Embry together would not end up scaring her off.
He then turned back to Embry as he got closer. "What, do you think you're president of the welcoming committee around here? " He joked with his friend.

Blue green eyes fluttered seamlessly across the tiny text, taking in every detail to paint a movie of the book within her mind…which wasn’t so easy to do considering she’d never been to Venice, where the book was set. Apparently there was a lot of ageing buildings and a lot of dark alleys though. A slight gasp came from her as her eyes widened in disbelief. No…. Somewhere along the tiny bits of text, she had become immersed in the book and had become so lost within its pages that she, at one point, believed she was standing there upon the riverside watching the vampire's told of in the book. It was an odd sensation…it scared her to feel as if she was watching the leeches feast on inasant people.
Noel gasped and felt a chill run down her spine, Ever so carefully her hand lowered toward the seat of the fire truck where the Cheez-Its resided. Subconsciously, she opened the box and began to pull the little orange squares out one by one, popping them squarely in her mouth, which in turn let her hair fly loose again in the wind. By now, however, she didn’t give a damn. Let the world as we know it fall apart around her; that book would still have her captivated within its folds. She jumped being pulled from the erie world her book potrayed as a voice boomed from in front of her, looking up she replayed his words before she found herself extending the box to the tall tanned guy before her. As she wedged her book into the fire trucks seat, Not at all...well you can have some if i haven't finished it off by now. She laughed and watched as another guy approached with a smirk on his face, as if she wasn't there the two exchanged small talk joking with eachother.
Evidently they knew one another, decideding she would throw herself into the conversation she smiled as she still held the box out to them. No harrasing yet...just the simple task of him eating my cheez-its. I'm Noel by the way....Noel Verachi. she extended a her free hand to either of them it didn't matter who, she was just being friendly. But she had to say they both definately where graced in the looks department.

Quil smiled at the young woman as she looked up from her book and graciously offered her some of her Cheez-its. He leaned over to peer into the box to check to see if it was empty and happily saw that there was still about 1/3 of it left. He wouldn't have to feel guilty about taking the last handful either. "Thanks!" he said cheerfully as he reached into the box and pulled out a handful of the cheese-crackery goodness.
Quil turned to Embry as the girl verified that he wasn't harrassing her. "HA! See! No harassment." He smirked at Embry before turning back to the girl as she introduced herself.
"It's nice to meet you Noel. My name's Quil Ateara" He told her, shaking her hand.

Embry mirrored his brothers impish grin as the girl spoke to them. At least she seemed laid back and automatically joking with them. I guess two strange boys joking around before they knew you and taking your food would put you off, but she was taking it in stride. "Yea, it's Cheeze-Its now. It's a gateway snack. Before you know it, he's walking out of your house with your fridge on his back." To anyone else, the mental picture of a full-sized fridge on a 17 year old boys back seemed comical, but Embry and Quil knew well that either of them could pull it off easily.
"Embry Call," she declared, taking her hand after Quil. Maybe she wouldn't noticed too easily their high running temperature. Hopefully she'd just think her own hands were cold and everyone else just felt really hot.

Noel laughed slightly as Quil took her hand his tempature a tad high she thought, and when Embry introduced himself and his hand felt the same she wondered if thy would notice her extreme temp also. But she would let them figure out she was one of them on their own, no matter how long it took them. Smiling as she pictured Quil stealing her fridge she laughed, I can totally see that happening. No offense Quil. She smiled at Quil before extending the 2 liter to them, You boys thirsty? she waved the bottle teasingly as she grinned. Propping herself up with her hands she swung her feet slightly as she watched them. It was so hard not to blurt it out but she would let them come to find out on their own. It would be more fun that way or she could just ask them if they wanted to go for a walk and then phase... she could just see their surprise as she started to strip. Priceless! it would be something else thats for sure.

Quil laughed as his brother called the cheez-its a gateway snack, and Noel quickly agreed that she could see Quil taking off with her fridge on his back. "No offense taken, but don't let this one over here fool you" He said pointing over at Embry. "He'd just as quickly raid your pantry while you were distracted watching me with the fridge. "
Quil noticed now that Noel's hand hadn't fel cold in comparison to his own. The temperature matched his own, and she didn't look like she was running a high fever (that would actually be deadly to humans if they had his temperature). He looked over to Embry, his mouth slightly agape as he watched them shake hands, wondering if Embry had noticed it as well. This chick was one of them! This was so sweet! They could have another one in their pack! Wait til he told the rest of the guys!

Embry made fun of Quil again, something along the lines of finally having a girl let him touch her which resulted in his his moronic gape. It wasn't until Embry shook hands with her himself did he mimic Quil in shock. Her hand felt normal to him, which meant she was running a high temperature. His surprised eyes gave Noel a better look at her, she looked as if she were expecting something. She seemed healthy. In fact she looked more than fine. The pieces had locked together when they touched hands, but looking at Noel's smug expression and Quil's shocked one, the pieces semented together.
"Uh..." He couldn't quite verbalize anything, his tongue supressed by the unexpected sister they'd just encountered. He looked at Quil, looking for a little help on the speech part.

Noel threw her head back and laughed forgetting her hands were holding her up, "Ahhh..." screaming she stumbled to catch her balance and managed to grasp the edge of the fire truck before she topled backwards. Theoir faces were priceless as they looked to eachother in shock Quil waiting for Embry to figure it out but Embry's expression was the best he was stunned but intrigued all in one. Noel smiled as he stumbled with words and glanced to Quil for help. Shaking her head Noel popped a cheeze-it in her mouth before she spoke, "I was wondering how long it would take you guys?" a smile on her face as she continued to glance between them.

Quil watched closely as Embry shook the girl's hand, waiting for him to notice the same thing he did. When he gave the same 'moronic gape' expression, Quil gave a defensive "See!" As if explaining why his own expression was well deserved.
He watched as Noel almost fell off of the firetruck laughing at them. "Hey, we catch on quickly" He told her. "So I guess you've figured it out then too" He made the assumption. "Did you just move here?" He asked, wondering how they hadn't known that there were more of them out there.

Noel smirked and wrinkled her nose slightly before shaking her head lightly at Quils questions as she laughed, "I figured it out as soon as you joked about the fridge thing. I mean i could see the seriousness in both your guys eyes. And nope i've been here...hmm.... six months i think. yeah six months. Infact your the first people to be even remotely welcoming to me...well the first guys that is. i've had plenty of adults address me but no teens." Noel smiled before unscrewing the lid of the two liter and took a long sip. She found herself eating and drinking as much and whatever she pleased and didn't have to worry about gaining a once, she loved that the most she guessed but everything else was extremely cool too. Still watching Embry struggle for word she waved a hand in front of his face as she passed Quil the bottle of soda saying as she did, "Here help yourself...Hey Embry you okay?" Noel laughed and began to slide off the fire truck for the first time since early that morning. Stretching she smiled as she rolled her shoulders before moving up to stand onto her toes and then back to her heels she did this a few times before jumping back onto the little red truck.

Embry's gaze went back and forth from his brother and... his new sister? This was unreal. It seemed that the pack was growing so much, but the addition of another wolf was always a shock. With this girl especially, since she was totally unknown to them. But it seems that they were related somehow.
"Um.. yea...," Embry finally responded after a moment's shock. How many of them were they going to be? He stood there while Quil started the interrogation, she was likely to be cross-examined for a while. She'd met a very nosy pair of werewolves. "Six months?" he asked, shocked again. "How come we haven't noticed before?"

Six months? How did we miss that? Quil wondered, gratefully taking the bottle of soda and taking a swig from it before holding it out to Embry, wondering if he was coherent enough to drink. He listned to Noel say how they were the first teens to be welcoming to her. He put his arm around her from the side in a half hug. "Well let us be the first to welcome you to La Push, even if it is a little late" He told her smiling.
Embry finally seemed to be able to find his words again and asked what would have been Quil's next question of why they hadn't noticed her yet. "Do you live on the Res?" He added.
