As much as he hated to admit it, there were things that were much better outside of the reservation. Embry didn't mind that their people usually kept to themselves and that outsiders thought them to be some sort of cultural novelty. He kind of liked the way things were. The only thing that sometimes disappointed him was the limited selection of their grocery store. He'd told his mom that she should order the jar that came with peanut butter and jelly together. But noooooo. The rez's store had jars of peanut butter and jars of jelly. Separated. He knew he was being weird, but this product was pretty much the best ever. So when he'd tagged a friend down before he'd left the reservation, he'd asked him to give him a lift into Forks to their supermarket.
These places were so big and crazy, but they had what Embry was looking for. Walking deeper into the supermarket, Embry finally turned into the isle he was looking for. Success![Early Twilight, tag for Elaine, everyone welcome ]

Elaine was walking around the store. She was getting some food to cook around the house. She walked down the peanut butter isle to get some of the peanut butter and jelly mixed. She had gotten the things she used for the tamales she was making and everything else the only thing that was left on the entire list what that one item down the shelf. She walked over to where it was and saw a person standing there to. She knew she had not seen him before at the store and she was here a lot.
"Hello there do you need help finding anything. I mean I have be come a wiz at this store." Elaine said looking at him before walking to the shelf and reaching up to try and grab one of the jars. She could barely get her hands around it. *why do they keep putting this higher and higher on the shelfs.*

Now that Embry had found what he was looking for, he felt a bit irritated. While the store on the rez had nothing, the Forks supermarket had waaaaaayy too much. As he looked at the section of the isle he'd been looking for, he counted 5 different brands of the peanut butter/jelly mix. Could they really be that different? What if he made it all the way here and picked one that sucked? This shouldn't have been so difficult. While he read labels and judged jelly flavors, he was approached by a girl he'd never met.
"Hey," he responded into his regular friendly smile. "Well, I found what I was looking for," he told her," I just didn't think there were so many. Do you know which one is better?" Embry usually knew all the faces in the area, but his mind couldn't match this one. He figured she was new in town.

She smiled and looked at him. "well I personally think this one is the best." She showed him one that was strawberry mixed with creamy. She had been eatting this kind since she was like 4 and would not stop now. She looked at the boy he looked confused.
"I been eatting it since I was 4 and it has yet to dissappoint me. I have had it in grape to it good. I'm not a grape fan though." She put it in her buggy and stood there with him. She had nothing else to do she could talk to him in the store if she wanted. "so what are you looking for. that would make it easier for me to help you."
Her hair was down blowing in her face and it was started int annoy her.

Embry looked at the jar the girl indicated and listened to her suggestion. "Wow, since you were 4? That's a long time." At least she knew what she liked, and apparently that included strawberry Jelly. "Actually I like grape better than strawberry," he admitted with a grin. He wasn't sure if the girl cared, but she seemed as excited about his find as he was. "I was only looking for this actually, but now that I'm here I remember some other stuff that I can't find closer to where I live." He didn't mind a shopping buddy for the time being, and she seemed willing to help. "I could use some poptarts and pineapple soda."

She looked at him and nods. She knew this would be fun. She loved shopping with people and it was fun to actually talk to someone other then a person that walked into the Restaurant to get some food. Elaine was tired of having to say 'what may I get you to drink already' and it was only going to be her third day.
"okay we can do that. I mean pop tarts are on row 17 with the Cereals and oatmeals. Then you have on row 20 in the very back of the store any type of soda you could dream up. Well unless you have a vivid imagination then maybe not." Elaine took her buggy and started to walk all the way to the back. She had learned start there and work forward and it would save you less time when you need to go and get out. "So I have not seen you before and you don't know what you are doing here really so what brings you here today. If you don't mind me asking."

Cool. This girl was like human map. That liked peanut butter and jelly in the same jar. He accepted her offer to show him the way around. All the sodas sounded great, but he had his eye on pineapple for some reason. "Yea, I don't come into Forks often but I still know pretty much everyone. I live in La Push, the reservation to the east from here. Are you new?"

Elaine looked at him as she was walking down the row and grabbing some root beer and Cream Soda. "well ya I have lived here for about 5 days. Been to this store 3 of the 5 so I am not new to the store really but the town yes."
She leaned onto the buggy and looked at him. "what is La Push. I have never heard of it. Oh sorry to be rude so that your not just thinking of me as she supermarket girl my name is Elaine." She felt really bad that she had not introduced herself yet. "I'm originally from Texas."

Embry thought it was weird that someone in town didn't know what La Push was, but cast the thought aside when she said she'd only been there a few days. It made sense if she was working almost every day she'd been there, which sounded like it sucked. "La Push is the indian reservation just a few miles away. The Quileute tribe lives there," he told her proudly. Though he and his mother were technically Makah, the Quileutes had welcomed them to La Push with open arms and had made them their own. He automatically let himself be known as a Quileute. "I'm Embry," he said. "Nice to meet you, Elaine."

Elaine looked at him. "that sounds really neat. I might go one weekend when I am not working or school is getting in the way. Which I have to admit is almost never. It was nice to meet you to Embry. So they must not have mixed PB&J down there huh." She laughed at that. She thought everywhere had that type of food. She brushed her hair out of her eyes and started to walk again. "Here we go to the Pop Tarts row."
Elaine then stopped and looked at him. "You can put your things in my basket to you know that way you will not have to carry it the whole time. That will make you stick out. Seeing as everyone else has buggies." Elaine did not know but this kid seem sort of cool. He was not treating her differently then the others.

"Nice to meet you to," he replied. "Yea a lot of the Forks kids come down to La Push because we have a beach. I'm sure you can catch a ride with them or something." Sooner or later, Elaine would make it down there. "Yea, we have peanut butter and then we have jelly. But we don't have these," he told her, picking up his new jar. Now that they were by the poptarts, Embry put his soda and jar into her cart and paid attention to the wall of snacks. "What do you think? Blueberry?"

Elaine looked at him. "hum that sounds good. I mean really it does. I have not had it in a while. I am used eating the brown cinnamon ones. You know what though those sound good." She grabbed a box and put them in her box. She then walked away form the buggy a little to grab a box of fruit loops. She was wanting cereal and ice cream. It was the best food combo in the world.
Elaine looked at him. "Sure I would love to join you in La Push with the other some time when I get a chance. It is just so hard to get off work and everything that I work most weekends. I can't wait to go though it sounds so much like the beach back home." Elaine closed her eyes and thought about when she used to go surfing on the waters where she was from. "So you need anything else on your list of food. All I need is ice cream to go with my fruit loops."

Embry laughed a husky chortle. "I don't know about that. I'm sure the Texas beaches are a lot warmer than First Beach," he told her reluctantly. "The temperature around here usually doesn't go higher than 60 degrees, and it's raining all the time." Even though it wasn't a sunny, relaxing beach, First Beach still had its advantages.
"So why are you working so much," he asked. He knew some kids that had part time jobs, but they usually found time to hang out with their friends and stuff. This girl had been here for less than a week, and she was already so busy.

Elaine looked at him and smiled. "okay well you are probably right that Texas is warm but I know that just being near a beach would bring me home to the warmth. Plus I bet your waves are not as good as ours. I used to surf." Elaine laughed acting challenging.
"well dad has this thing of right now not wanting me to have any time to think. I have been going threw some hard times lately and he thought it was going to be easier if I worked all the time. You know to stay busy." Elaine smiled as she went grab some vanilla Ice Cream.

"Actually our waves are pretty awesome," he defended. "We get storms all the time and we get some great swells." He'd only been surfing a few times, and it was ok. But recently he'd taken his first plunge off the lower ledge of the cliff. Only Sam Uley and his friends ever did it from the very top, but the lower ledge was just as awesome. There was no thrill like it that Embry could think of. "Oh," he said, suddenly worried that he might be asking too many questions. This girl was having a hard time and she might not want to answer too much. "Sorry you're having such a hard time. I guess a job is a good way to keep your mind off of things. Where do you work?"
