**Please note that Eternal Lives takes place after the final book, Breaking Dawn, so there are spoilers in the plot.
Peace and quiet has lasted in Forks, Washington for just over five and half years. The Cullen family still resides in their mansion, as no unusual suspicion has been raised, so there hasn't been a need to move as of yet. Another wedding took place in the small town, uniting Charlie Swan with Sue Clearwater, which has put another tie between Bella, Seth, and Leah. While Seth has been excited with the new additions to his family, Leah hasn't been so sure about the matter. Alice has been keeping an eye out for trouble, and while she senses that the Volturi are rather angry at them still, she hasn't seen anything else out of the ordinary. It's harder for her to see the future with Renesmee around, and it certainly doesn't help that Jacob is always around as well, along with some of the other werewolves.
While nothing unusual has happened in Forks since the coming of the Volturi, the stability won't last much longer. New visitors are on their way to see the Cullens...two Children of the Moon. The Millers aren't the stereotypical werewolf, and just so happen to be much more humane then the rest of their kind--though there isn't many of them left. They break the pattern for werewolves, just like the Cullens do for vampires. The newcomers have news to share too, if everything remains civil in the first meeting. Although they do their best to stay as far away from the Volturi as possible--if they caught wind of the Miller's existence, they'd surely put it to an end--they do their best to keep track of the Italian vampires. Through some of their contacts, whispers of a new Volturi guard member have been going around, someone who has stolen the spotlight from Jane and Alec...
_____ Sullivan, the newest of the Volturi guard, plans to take the vampire world by storm. He's a somewhat twisted person, who uses his gift--control over metal--to torture both humans and vampires alike. Being the type of person he is, Sullivan has found a way to make knives and other weapons he creates harmful to vampires. Venom from his very own kind does the trick, when it's added to his weapons, that is. He is able to stay out of actual physical fights, and most often uses his power to control the battlefield instead. Currently, he has thrown the 'witch twins' from the throne they've sat upon for centuries, and has instead taken their place. Attacks on the mind were useful and impressive for a period of time, but since they are useless against the Volturi's greatest enemy, Alec and Jane have fallen out of the spotlight. Bella's shield doesn't protect from physical attacks however, and with Sullivan's method, he's become a very popular guard.
The Volturi have kept quite a few of their witnesses from the last meeting with the Cullens, and having been collecting venom from them, giving it to Sullivan so he can come up with new ideas on how to attack fellow vampires. The remaining witnesses that have been kept are being used as Sullivan's practice targets. He's using his weapons against them, to test out different methods, that way his weapons are just perfect. With such an action, the Volturi has hit an all time low. Once the rest of the vampire world catches wind of such treachery, will they stand alongside the Volturi due to fear, or will they stand up to the royal vampires and help the Cullens out in the coming war? The twins are rather angry at what's happened, but would they go so far as to separate themselves from the very people they've protected for centuries? Each side has secrets from one another, and has gained strength in different ways. Will family ties and friendship outweigh royalty and devoted servants, when it comes down to a battle? Only time will tell.
