{Post-Eclipse?}
Pottering around the little house that she shared with Connor had become one of Dawn’s specialities. In the month or so that she had now been residing in the same house as Connor, she had learnt its layout by heart, knew exactly the number of steps that took her to important places – the toilet, the shower, the kitchen, the doors, the bed. She had even memorised the location of various little things that had a tendency to get in the way when their whereabouts were not schemed into her mental map.
She laughed quietly to the radio, which she had on almost constantly whilst at home alone – she found nothing worse and more eerie than the absolute silence of being home by herself. Back in her home town of Bolton she would have felt perfectly secure in taking a wander outside, being able to remember the intricacies of the landscape and confident about where she was at all times. She had not yet been here long enough to trust herself to do that, though; in fact, the back yard had just been assimilated into her internal border region. She had recently discovered that she had chosen to move to an area that was possibility even rainier than her home town – certainly not what the TV and radio told her of the United States – though, and so the back yard was still relatively unexplored.
Still, though, she was happy to be there. Ecstatic, in fact. She couldn’t even begrudge her sister’s apparent lack of care, in the literal sense and in her attitude when Dawn had announced that she would be moving out of their house in Seattle and to the little town of La Push. It seemed that Connor was all she needed now, all she could ever picture herself needing. He was absolutely perfect for her, in a way that she had never imagined. From a rather early age, she had resigned herself to never meeting anyone to love as people did in the stories her mother told her. And yet…
Hearing the chime of the clock click on five times – a clock that she had brought into the household – Dawn grinned to herself, feeling a now familiar swirl of butterflies in her stomach. Her amazing boyfriend should be home soon and her favourite part of the day was due to begin. She giggled to herself a little, allowing some of the overexcitement to filter out and she reached out from her seat to the radio and clicked it off, preferring to have ears only for Connor’s arrival.

The past month had been amazing for Connor. From the moment he met his imprintee he knew that her sister wasn't taking good enough care of her. He wanted to be the one to provide for her and meet her needs. He didn't pity her or think that she wasn't capable of managing on her own, but he realized that she needed extra attention and he was more than glad to give it to her. Even if she hadn't been blind, Connor knew from the love that he felt towards her that he'd be just as attentive to her every need as he was now. It made him ecstatic when she had agreed to move in with him. He knew it wasn't that long after they met, and to most people it would probably seem like they were rushing things, but Connor knew that this wasn't just a random relationship or flirtation. She was the woman he'd spend the rest of his life with (if she'd let him) so why put it off? With Connors image to some of the others in the area as a bad seed, the only thing he worried about was how his association with Dawn might reflect on her, not wanting anyone to ever think any thing less of her.
Connor stood off to the side of the door in the daycare center that he worked during the days and watched as the last kid of the day was picked up by their parents. He gave them a nod but kept his distance. The kids loved him but the parents were never too pleased to talk to him. He smiled though when they were gone, knowing he'd get to go home to see Dawn.
After locking up the building and saying goodbye to Simone, Connor got into his minivan and headed back on the familiar route back to his home. About halfway back he slowed down his van as he spotted something on the side of the road. Leaning forward to get a better look he pulled off to the side as he saw that there was something moving. Getting out of the van Connor walked over to the edge of the road and bent down seeing the motionless and bloody figure of an adult goat, having been hit by a car. As he looked further he saw what he had seen earlier moving. Laying next to the adult was a small baby goat, no bigger than the size of a cat, who lifted his head when Connor came over. It appeared unharmed but Connor could tell this must have been its mother that had been killed.
Connor looked around wondering if any farmers were looking for the animal, or if it was just a stray that had wandered off and given birth recently. Not seeing anyone in sight and knowing the baby kid wouldn't survive out here on its own, he reached over and gently picked it up. The animal was docile and allowed Connor to pick him up easily without struggling. Connor cradled the animal under his arm as he stood up, taking it away from the dead body of its mother, feeling a desire to protect it. "It's okay little guy, we'll take care of you" He said petting its head as if it was a dog. The animal responded by licking his finger and then gently sucking on it.
Connor had no idea how Dawn would feel about him bringing home an animal but he felt that he couldnt just abandon it, knowing there was no one else to take care of the kid. He got back into his car and held the baby goat on his lap with one hand as he drove the rest of the short trip with his other hand.
Once he got to his house he took a deep breath, hoping that Dawn would be okay with this new addition, already finding himself getting attached to the little guy who had fallen asleep on the way over and was now giving a little yawn as they got out of the van. "Act cute...and soft...you better not bite her" He warned the animal softly as he opened up the door.
"Dawn, I'm home" He announced, always wanting to make sure that she heard him when he got back so that he didnt startle her once he figured out which room she was in. The baby goat was chewing the air contently as he got carried inside.

The moment that Dawn heard Connor announce his arrival verbally, a large grin appeared on her face. He always (well, so far) did that when he entered the house, which she found to be so thoughtful, even if she had now tuned in her hearing to his incredibly quiet footsteps. She turned to the general direction of the front door, having learnt how to arrange herself for his arrival and waited for his gait to enter earshot.
“Connor!” she announced as it did so and she could be sure that he was in the room with her. She held her arms out in open greeting and continued to smile happily. His homecoming was always, without exception, the best and happiest part of Dawn’s day. However, before he could approach her completely, the low chomping and snuffles of the kid in his arms caught her attention. A small confused kink marked her freckled brow and she lowered her head so that it was directed just off the kid’s location.
“What’s that?” she asked, dropping her arms to her sides as she realised that her boyfriend was carrying an alive something. She tiled her head questioningly, not annoyed, but curious about what was actually going on. Her already large eyes widened at a thought, the light catching at them and brightening their green colour. “It’s not one of the babies is it?” She worried about the reasons that Connor would have for bringing one of his charges home with him; she worried about the health of the parents and the safety of the child.

Connor felt the familiar surge of warmth and good feelings that he always felt when being reunited with his imprintee. Even knowing they were together and even lived together, he still got just as happy every time he saw her and saw that she was still staying with him. Imprinting was really an amazing thing, it could give you the best high in the world just by seeing the person you loved. Hearing her voice he smiled moving into the room he heard her voice coming from.
"Hey, how was your day? " he said stalling as he saw her arms out as she smiled. He tried to reposition the goat in his arms, wondering how he'd hug her first without her realizing what he was holding. But it didnt take her too long to hear the noises the little one was making and her arms dropped down to her sides. While he was anxious to give her a more proper greeting he knew it was probably better to tell her about their new guest rather than just let her discover the smell or feel him wiggling beside her as he hugged her.
"Umm, it is a baby but its not what you think" He told her. "It's a little goat, I found him by the side of the road by its mother who had been killed, and I didn't want to just leave him there on his own" He said trying to get it all out quickly before she had a chance to object. "Please don't be mad I brought him home..."

“Oh, you know,” Dawn replied as Connor asked how her day was. Sometimes she wished that she had more of a story about her day’s events quite often, but beyond an interesting phone call or a trip to the bottom of the yard, there was often nothing else when she was alone. “Same old, same old. Still exploring the house properly, finding my feet and all that. Waiting for you to get home…”
She grinned up at him, knowing that she should perhaps try to pretend that she didn’t now live for her boyfriend to return home to her, but not having the will to. The connection that she had felt with Connor on that first random and extremely lucky meeting had never faded, it had only gotten stronger. She knew that she had impossibly fallen in love with him, proving to her that love at first sight was severely mislabelled. She only hoped that the love she felt for him was still being felt as strongly by him for her. She knew that he had imprinted upon her, but although she could believe everything that Connor told her, Dawn found it quite difficult to believe that the connection could not be undone. She desperately hoped that was the case though, she couldn’t live without Connor now.
“We know you’re the interesting one, tell me all about it,” she continued to smile at him, though she had just dropped her arms at the end of the sentence, having heard the sounds of his little package and having realised that if he was going to hug her he would have already done so by now. She took a step or two towards him, her movements in the house much more confident now than they were even a week ago. Since she had started living with him she had often gotten him to describe his day down to the most intricate detail so that she could put her rusty visual imagination to work and exercise her memory. She hated to think that everyday she forgot a little more of the visual world, as inevitable as it was, and so she had roped Connor into her practicing.
Dawn’s eyes widened to an extraordinary size as Connor admitted that he had brought a baby home. Even if it wasn’t what she thought, she still took a small step backwards to increase the space between them, scared that she should clumsily hurt the poor little thing. She raised her face upwards to approximate the angle of Connor’s.
“I’m not mad,” she said, her voice tender, even if her body was slightly apprehensive. She loved babies, of all species, she pretty much just loved unconditionally, but she doubted her ability to care for anyone or anything that was absolutely dependent. “It’s really sweet of you, I’m glad you’re that caring, but…” she blinked a couple of times, putting her memory to work and frowned as it came up a fuzzy blank. A farmyard animal, nice cheese, but appearance-wise… nothing. She hadn’t seen a goat since she was a small child, before her night vision and the tunnelling had begun to occur. Sheep she knew, cows… goats were sort of alien. That was kind of scary. “A goat?” she finally asked, her voice unsure.

Connor nodded as she explained that her day was much of the same. He hated leaving her alone, feeling guilty about how often he had to do that, and that there wasn't much here for her to do. "You're doing great in the house, I'm sure you'll have it mastered any day now" He told her "You know, I should introduce you to some of the other imprintees, maybe you'd have someone to talk to when I can't be home" He suggested then looking down at the air-chewing goat in his arms, wondered if this little guy would be able to keep her company as well or if Dawn would make him get rid of it.
"Oh, I'm not that interesting, just the troublemaker if you ask most of the res" he said lightly, not caring how the others saw him as long as Dawn saw who he really was. Even with her lack of sight he knew she saw him better than anyone else. "The kids were good today, only had to give a couple of them time outs" he said stalling with explaining his news for a little bit but knowing he couldnt put it off long as soon as she had realized he was in the room with them.
When Connor saw Dawn take a step back he immediately felt guilty, not wanting her to be scared or worried about what he was doing. "It's okay, its just a baby it wont hurt, I dont even think the little guy has teeth yet if he wanted to bite...but he seems sweet" He said hoping to comfort his girlfriend.
He was relieved to hear her tell him that she wasn't mad at him for brining it home, but he could see the apprehension on her face. It wasn't until he questioned what he had brought home that he realized she may not have known what a goat even looked like. It wasn't something people talked about daily so it was likely that no one had really taken time to describe it to her. "Yeah, its a little goat...he's uh...like the size of a full grown cat or a puppy...kind of acts like one too, I can hold him in one hand really...and he's got light brown fur, lighter than my hair...he's soft...you should pet him" He suggested thinking she might get a better idea if she touched him herself.

Dawn smiled in response to Connor’s confidence in her and considered his thought about meeting other imprintees by tilting her head to the side. Her bright smile didn’t falter as she considered the idea and after a moment she nodded in agreement. She wasn’t ashamed of her condition (under ordinary circumstances) and meeting other people in a similar situation to herself seemed like a good idea to her.
“Sounds good to me,” she agreed with him. “You know, so long as they’re up for it too. I wouldn’t want to be an imposition. It would be good to have someone to share the day with, before I get to have you all to myself.”
She ended with a grin and wrinkled her nose into a jokey frown as she heard him refer to himself as the troublemaker of the Rez. “Pfft, yeah,” she commented, her tone derisive and then turning playful. “You and your rep. I’m sure they all know that you’re just an overgrown puppy.” She couldn’t imagine anyone more tender and attentive than Connor. Of course, she didn’t really know what he looked like, but it would be idiotic to judge someone on appearances alone. it would be like her disliking someone for the rhythm of their walk or the sound of their voice.
“I know,” she said, slowly, still unsure. She wasn’t afraid of being bitten or kicked or hurt in any way by the animal, she was scared of hurting it. Small things were fragile and she quite often didn’t do well with fragile. “I just don’t want to hurt it by accident…”
She pricked her ears up as Connor began to describe what the little goat looked like, a small smile adorning her lips despite the continuing feeling of apprehension. She put her imagination to work, her brow slightly furrowed in concentration. A blurry animal began to form, the size of a puppy (which one of her aunts had when she was little), light brown fur, though she couldn’t picture that properly until she had felt its texture. Curiosity overwhelmed her fear by the end of his description and she retook one of the small steps towards the pair of them. She stretched her hand out, moving extremely slowly so that she didn’t startle the animal or hurt it if she made contact.
“Oh, he is soft,” she commented, her voice full of wonder as she put together the texture of his hair, the firmness of the flesh underneath. She tilted her face upwards, so that her large green eyes peered up into her boyfriend’s face and she smiled briefly, before another worried frown overwhelmed it. “He feels like I could damage him if I make a mistake… I don’t think I’m built for caring for things…” She bit her lip, nervously, as one of her hands slowly stroked through the kid’s fur, all the while growing more attached and more fearful of what her impairment result in.

Connor smiled, happy that she seemed open to the idea of meeting other imprintees. He thought it might be good for her to have some more friends in the area. While he'd never want to push her away from himself, he knew he had obligations that made it impossible for him to be with her 24 hours a day. So when he wasn't, he wanted to know she had others to count on (having learned already her sister was not one of them). At least with the other imprintees, she wouldnt have to worry about hiding his secret, she could have someone to talk with openly, or even complain about the wolf aspects together.
"Great! I'll make sure its someone who's just as interested in meeting you, no one who would see it as an imposition" He assured her already going through the other imprintees in his head trying to decide who would be a good match for her.
Connor laughed lightly as she said how she was sure the others just saw him as an overgrown puppy. He wished that was the case, but loved that she didnt see him as worse. "I'm glad you know that " He told her, never wanting her to be afraid of him.
Connor was a little surprised to learn the reason she looked so afraid wasn't because of the animal but because she was worried about hurting it. He should have known she'd always first think about the wellbeing of another creature over her own. She had such a warm heart. "You wont hurt it. He's a little guy, but he can handle it...you're more gentle than I am, I'm sure" He told her.
Connor wished that he was better with words, that he'd be able to give her a more accurate description of the baby goat. He knew that she'd probably get a lot more from just one touch of the animal than any of his descriptinos could do. He held the goat still as he saw her slowly reaching out her hand towards it. "its okay" He encouraged.
He smiled as she commented that he was soft as her hand made contact with the top of the small goat's head. Seeing the smile on her face as she did so warmed him but he quickly saw her worry. "You wont make a mistake, he already likes you" He said as the kid nudged up against her hand, rubbing against it.

Dawn smiled, hearing the enthusiasm in her boyfriend’s tone as they planned for her to meet some of the other imprintees. It would be fun, a bit scary, but fun. Connor was really the only person that she had managed to get to know since she had moved to La Push, hell, since she had moved to America. Not that that displeased her in the slightest, but when he wasn’t around it would feel good to maybe have a couple of friends to turn to for company. She wasn’t nervous about meeting the other girls just then, but she knew she would be when the time came. Just because she was unfazed by her condition, didn’t mean that others would overlook it too. “That’d be great,” she encouraged him. “Just… no one too quiet – it’s easier to remember louder voices.” – They tended to be more distinct.
She grinned, hearing Connor laugh over her comment that he was an overgrown puppy, though she didn’t really understand it. She knew that the general perception of her man was less than positive across the reservation, but she honestly didn’t understand where they got it from. She had no idea how just looking at his appearance could counteract his obvious sweet nature so severely. She laughed a little as he voice his happiness at her perception of him, “I couldn’t think of you in any other way – I can only know the real you.”
Listening to Connor closely as he reassured her that she wouldn’t hurt the tiny goat, Dawn tried to put away her nervousness, but was only moderately successful. In most ordinary situations she was very careful and, knowing exactly what she was doing, she managed to muddle through things in a somewhat normal manner. But this little living creature could move anywhere and catch her unawares. She took a deep breath and made up her mind to trust her beloved boyfriend – he would keep her right – she could trust him.
She laughed out loud as she felt the small, soft head that she was petting butt upwards into her hand as Connor told her that the kid liked her. She turned her face up to him, not realising how close they all were to each other in a momentarily lack of spatial awareness. “He does!” she laughed with delight, placing her spare hand over Connor’s. “He must like you too – he’s sitting so still!”

Connor was happy to hear how willing Dawn was to meet some of the other girls. He wanted her to have someone besides himself. While selfishly he'd love to be the only person in her world, he didnt want to ever think he might be holding her back from making friends, and experiencing more of life than he could give her. He smirked as she told him not to make it anyone too quiet. "Got it, the louder and more talkative the better" He said, already ruling out a few. He knew Jared's girl was quiet, and Quil's was too young. Emily was friendly with everyone, but didn't seem too loud either, more the quiet supportive type. "Next time I'm with the pack I'll poke into the guy's heads to find out more about their girlfriends...I think Reid's imprintee is pretty talkative..." He said thinking aloud.
It warmed his heart to hear Dawn speak of knowing the real him and knowing how she had just described him. He knew not everyone saw him that way, but she was the only one who's opinion mattered. He hoped she never changed her mind.
It was amazing to watch the care that Dawn took with the baby goat. Connor held on tight to the animal (though tried to make sure he didn't use any of his extra wolf-strength that might injure it) to keep it in place while she touched it. He knew the last thing she'd need would be for the baby animal to jump away as soon as she got near it. But surprisingly the goat wasn't even fighting him at all, it was as though it was completely content to be held and petted, as if it needed the two of them to care for him. He smiled at Dawn as she saw her beaming with the realization that the goat liked her, and him as well. " I guess it does...He seems really comfortable here with us, like he belongs"
