{Early B.D...............Tag Embry} Gabby stuck her tongue out just a little bit in concentration as she doodled on her black book bag with liquid white out. The swirls somehow seemed to blend neatly into her name, and she smiled at the finished work. She shoved the white out into one of the pockets and zippered it, standing just as the school bell rung, about time. She hated silence, and study hall was her last period. It was torture.
Gabby skipped along down the hall, some students looking at her as if she had to be joking. She didn’t care, their eyes on her only meant they had nothing else better to do than to find something wrong with the somewhat quiet art girl. Gabby held onto a door frame as she swung herself out onto the top of the steps that lead to the exit of the school. She turned the volume up on her bright blue headphones.
Holding onto one of the straps for her back pack she bobbed her head to the music. “The Humpty dance is your chance to do the hump! Uh uh do me baby, do the humpty hump.” she sang as she opened the door to her green vintage automobile. She looked up as she threw her back pack in to the back seat. It was then she noticed him. A familiar face, in a sea of teens. “Embry?” she whispered to her self. A smile broke and she waved her had in the air. “Embry!!” She slammed the car door shut and ran back to the pavement. She hadn’t seen him in years. He still had that boyish quality about him though.

The day had been entirely too long and Embry's limbs felt like lead even after he'd been freed from the school day. Running patrol at weird hours, trying to appear normal to everyone else, keeping up with Noel... and now school. Embry couldn't quite remember most of the day; he was sure he'd slept through a lot of it and now he found himself walking towards his beat up car. It would have been easier to just walk into the cover of the forest and phase to run home, but someone was bound to notice, and he hadn't figured out how to carry all his stuff with him. He wasn't sure how he was going to get home in one piece, but he held the picture of his bed in mind, it would be his reward. He rubbed his eyes, walking slowly trying not to stumble because he was sure he'd give up and sleep on the ground if he hit it.
He was halfway there when he heard his named being called out. It was a girl, which was weird because it didn't sound like Noel. Embry felt the sound of her voice fill his mind with a warm sensation and he quickly searched the crowd for its source, needed to connect the tone with a face. Everyone else would have kept staring at the bright green vehicle that stood out among the mundane shades of color in the small parking lot, but Embry had found the owner and could not not look away, not ever again. A surge of warmth had overtaken him and had miraculously cured the fatigue he had been feeling. He saw a beautiful, excited face surrounded by fiery red strands of hair swirling in the wind, and it was the only thing he could see. Without realizing it, Embry had been walking forward to her, slightly bumping into other students, unwilling to stray from his path. He was awe struck, his mouth open slightly and his eyes wide in anticipation. Before he'd crossed the distance, a smile had spread across his lips as he recognized the girl. "Gabby?" he said, hoarsely, his throat dry from the wind and the rush of emotions running through him.
Yes, he remembered her from his childhood. A quirky girl he'd always played with in Neah Bay. But there was something else that was familiar about it all. He looked at her, surprised to see his old friend again. He felt happiness root from deep inside as he re-familiarized himself with her glowing, perfect face. He had never felt anything like it, but the realization hit him soon enough. He had felt just a tiny fraction of it. Sam, Quil, Leo... he had seen it and felt it in their minds. This girl was... his. A dozen other thoughts struck him as he finally reached her car and walked around the hood to face her; Noel, Sam, Issy... damn. But the thoughts didn't last long at all; not while she was there with him.

Gabriella pushed her hair out of the way as she got closer. Something about him was insanely different, besides the height and muscles. Her eyes squinted, looking for some unseen answer and finding none. But when her blue eyes met his she felt like she was going to cry. Was she really that excited to see one of the people she colored with? She ignored the question as she practically ran into him. It kind of hurt, like running into the wall, but the heat he let off felt nice. Like Icy-hot.
The girl wrapped her arms around him, he was huge. She giggled and pulled back, allowing him to breathe and rubbing her cheek. “You’re a lot,” she eyed him for a second, “bigger than I remember.” She shook her head, maybe It was shock. “Embry,” she laughed, covering her mouth, “Since when did you get hot?!” she laughed. It seemed like yesterday they were cutting into construction paper.
She couldn’t explain why she felt all tingly, but she assumed it was because she ran into him. She couldn’t keep her eyes off of him. It was so weird. There was a glow about him. “In the flesh,” she smiled. “Not much has changed with me, except the hair, I’ve been trying different things.” she scrunched her hair in her hand. She laughed a little nervous. And poked him playfully, “How you been?” she asked unable to conceal her excitement. Nor did she care to.

He felt the air escape his lungs as she collided against his chest, his eyes closing as he inhaled the most delicate scent from her hair. Her tiny arms barely reached around him, but he softly embraced her, his heart throbbing at her touch. He remembered when they had been almost the same size as kids, and now he towered over her by at least a foot and a half. It would certainly work to his advantage; he would be there to protect her from anything and everything. He needed every inch. He looked into her face, cherishing her sweet laugh and complimented it with his own. "I grew up," he responded, though he reddened slightly at the other compliment. She thought he was hot. He remembered distinctly always sitting through her talking her mouth off, saying whatever it came to her. He had never felt so incredibly happy that nothing had changed. He loved it and would have it no other way.
He could only smile indulgently as she talked about her hair, which was perfect. She had changed a lot since the last time he had been with the Makahs, but he never would have thought she would be so light and beautiful and glowing. "You look... amazing," he said, though not able to his the blush that came with his honesty. Though he knew it was the absolute truth and would never hide it from her, it was still unlike him to make comments like that. "I've never been better," he blurted unexpectedly, though it was true. "But when did you move here?" he asked. It didn't matter. What mattered was that she was there with him, but he was still curious.

She noticed him blush and it only made her smile grow, before she felt her own heat in her cheeks. She looked at his shoes for a second. Yup, she definitely just called him hot. She immediately looked down at her outfit, if she was giving him compliments covered in paint that would be a little embarrassing. Her dark blue jeans looked clean enough though, and her white ‘save the penguins’ t-shirt clung to her upper body.
She giggled when he answered that he’d grown up. She looked back up at him, “Yeah I’d say so,” she laughed. “Aw shucks,” she joked, she was a little surprised when he mentioned never being better. She didn’t really ever remember him being sad much anyway though. He was always pleasant, a little quiet but after you poked him with a crayon a few times or said bizarre things he’d usually open up a bit. She assumed that’s why she had poked him a moment ago. A habit.
She pondered for a moment. For some reason her brain was functioning a little slower than normal. “Uh last year,” she admitted, “but, I kinda’ showed up at the end.” She nodded. The one earphone was still thumping music into her ear and she quickly yanked it out. She took her ipod from her back pocket and wrapped the headphone wires around it. “Digital Undergorund,” she smiled telling him the name of the artist she was listening to. No one else her age seemed to appreciate old school hip hop, but with an older brother, she was sucked up into the love for it.
“Why haven’t I seen you?” she wondered aloud and shrugged. “Man! It’s been so long, your favorite cookie still oreo’s?” she asked remembering a random moment of them coloring and dunking oreos into milk. Eventually the milk got too low, and her hand got stuck in the cup as she tried to dip it. She remembered him laughing at her as she tried to wrench her hand out. She giggled aloud at the mental vision.

Catching her own cheeks color, Embry could only smile broader and look over every feature of her face. He recognized the endearing qualities he knew when they were kids. Now she was gorgeous and glowing; he couldn't have imagined someone being so perfect. He had always perceived Emily, Claire, Kim and now Rachel and Issy with a reverence that was not his own. His brothers had always left him with a lingering feeling of elation. But now, Embry felt the full force of his own imprinting. The a very small portion of the back of his mind was entertaining a number of stray thoughts that would eventually turn into uncomfortable conversations with some of the people he cared about, but at that moment he felt like nothing in the world could be wrong. He would never feel the impossible happiness he felt right now at any other time or with any other person.
He listened in undivided admiration as Gabby fired away at her attempt to catch up on the years they hadn't seen each other. He wasn't sure what question to answer, and he wanted to know as much about her as she did him. "Oreos are still the best," he confirmed with a chuckle, happy that she remembered something they shared. "I've been really... busy," he said truthfully, though not sure how to continue. It had always been easy to keep his secrets from his mother. He didn't want to impose her with all the crazyness. But Gabby was standing there, looking at him with beautiful bright eyes; no one else deserved the truth more than she did. But he had no idea how to tell her. He suddenly wished one of his brothers was nearby, maybe give them a glance for help. His worries were once again swept away when his eyes fell onto hers, seeing the world and music and colors. With the pressing need to touch her, he reached out and put a hand on her elbow, feeling her cooler skin send tingles up his arm. "You should come see my mom," he blurted out. "She'd love to see you again." It also had a lot to do with not wanting to let her out of his sight ever again. He knew now that his life and heart was entirely for her.

Gabby looked around, she felt warm, like her brain was in a pleasant haze. A little cloudy but still in working condition. She noted the weather, it was still rather cool. She was baffled. She made a face in thought. But looked back up as Embry’s voice filled her head. It was weird, she hadn’t seen them since they were kids. Yet, here he was hot and all. Cute yeah he was cute as a kid, but this, this was the twilight zone.
She laughed when he confirmed oreo’s were still the best and nodded in agreement. Gabriella had to wonder how bust his life really was. After all didn’t boys just sit around playing video games and pigging out on the couch. At least that’s what her brother had done at their age. But maybe Embry wasn’t normal. Maybe he had turned out to be more of an oddball like her.
She smiled widely when he suggested taking her home to see his mom. Ms. Call always was a real sweet lady, not to mention they could catch up. “Ooo I love your mom she makes those awesome apple things!” she exclaimed remembering the scent of them baking. His mother had taught hers the recipe and as a kid she asked for it all the time. Rarely getting her way but loving it when she did.
Her eyebrows lifted at the invitation and bounced a little on the balls of her feet. “Let’s go than,” she smiled pointing to her bright green vintage car. She took really good care of it, it was her baby. She just didn’t know how to fix anything on it. “Unless Mr. Busy has plans,” she pouted playfully.

Gabby's approval his is plan and excitement added to his own. He wasn't even sure if his mom was home, or if he actually cared. He just knew he wanted to be near her for the rest of the day and forever. Now he just needed to keep her by him for as long as he could, and he desperately tried to think of how to start the conversation he knew they had to have. So yea... I sort of turn into a werewolf... and kill vampires. Yea, that didn't sound quite right. So you know that really awesome feeling you have right now, well that kind of means you're my soul mate. Sounded a bit creepy. But he would tell her, somehow, and everything else she ever wanted to know.
Now that she actually pointed out the car that they were standing next to, Embry took a step back to examine. He smiled indulgently and nodded in approval at the model and color. It practically screamed her name and was perfect for her. He looked up again when she teased him, slightly worried at the pout on her face. He could tell that she was only kidding, but he couldn't bear to the source of any discomfort for her and would do anything to see her smile. "Never too busy," he said quckly to appease her. "Let's go, you can drive."

Gabriella smiled and giggled. “Woohoo!” Not like she had any plans beside going home and doing her yoga in the back yard like she did every day. She could use some excitement. She saluted him, “yes, sir, hop in.” Gabby skipped over to her driver side door and pulled it open. The tan interior greeted her, luckily she had just cleaned the car out. Usually she her yoga mat, beach towels, and whatever she forgot to pull out the night before would be littering the chairs.
She waited till she heard the door beside her close, and she turned the key. The car purred below her, it had a lot of speed, more than she would ever need. She placed her hand on the clutch and after looking both ways zipped out of the parking lot. She turned the music up, and the bass thumped loudly. Missy Elliott blared through the speakers. “Is it worth it, let me work it. I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it!” she sang before turning the music back down. “Uh so where am I going?” she asked, as they paused at a stop sign. She smiled innocently, dancing in her seat.

Smiling broadly, he felt Gabby's overwhelming happiness smooth his muscles and ease his mind. She was so naturally upbeat that it was impossible to not feel the same way around her. He quickly slipped into the passenger side of the car, taking note of the interior. It was an unexpected color, but it somehow sat well with the exterior, and it was naturally within Gabby's taste.
His heightened sense of hearing appreciate the healthy deep rumble from the engine as she turned it on. He did detect a small strain that might indicate some resistance in the fuel injectors, but it was nothing a human ear could notice. Once he figured out how to tell her about everything, he would definitely pop open the hood to replace anything that needed to be. He didn't want to run the risk of her driving a car that wasn't running just right. He would do anything to keep her safe.
He listened to her sing to the radio, smiling foolishly and barely noticing that his head had started to bop slightly to her singing. His shoulders shook with quieted laughter. She was so fearless and amazing, and he was glad that she hadn't changed and was still the Gabby from so many years ago. "Oh um... just take the main road south til you hit the elementary school. Then a right, i'm the last house on the left."
He adjusted himself so that his back was to the door and he was facing her, watching her as she drove through the small reservation towards his house. In the small bits of silence, he marveled at his good fortune. He felt like the luckiest wolf of the pack. For so long he had seen his brothers find their soulmate, and for a while he had accepted that he would have to find his own in a more traditional way. Today he felt what they felt, and he had found the person that he would love forever, and had made him feel closer to his brothers. "So why did you come back anyway? Where are you living now?"

Gabriella looked to her right, than her left as she waited for him to tell her where she was going. Usually his mom came to the Makah Reservation she could count on one hand the amount of times she’d been to his home. She had the strange urge to look at him, as if he was some form of a magnet. She couldn’t help but blush when she did as she realized she may have been staring. Her blue eyes darted to the windshield, and she smiled widely, “Right, got it.”
She wondered if he still hung out with the same people, but she’d expect as much. On any reservation everyone was usually stable and maintained the same group for years. At least that was the way in Makah. It was for that reason she assumed their mothers visited each other so often back then when they were kids. It had slowed down drastically and she blamed the infrequency of visits on the fact they were now older. They couldn’t be forced away from their teenage projects quite so easily. She only wished now that she would have accepted her mother’s invitations to visit the Calls. They were pretty people.
Gabby read the street names, careful not to get them lost in such a small town that would have been embarrassing. She doubted he would have let her though unless he wanted a laugh. She turned the music up a little barely listening to its addictive rhythm. Her mind was too focused on mentally bashing herself for not seeing him sooner. Maybe she wouldn’t have felt like such an outsider that first year at LaPush High, not like she really minded either way but it made a good excuse.
“Aunt Lucy passed away last summer,” she answered. Her tone was less bubbly for an instant before she reminded herself, “She’s in a better place now she doesn’t have to suffer.” She looked to him again a smile back on her face. It didn’t feel right to frown. “We took care of her,” her eyes glimmered with a fresh batch of tears, she fought them back blinking rapidly. “Sorry,” she laughed, “I can be such a girl. Anyway she was my God mom so she left the house in my name, Dad lives here and back in Makah,” she explained and gave a small nod to verify that was about it. “But, what’s new with you?” she asked slowly regaining her peaceful happy tone.

Watching her intently, he found that she had taken his directions confidently and probably wouldn't need direction again. She probably knew the streets well by now, and it made him wonder why he hadn't seen her before today. He hadn't been expecting to imprint on anyone, and now that he had he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that it had taken so long. As they made their way across the reservation, a smaller part of his mind was slightly worried about what would happen after today. The second he phased, everyone would know. What was he going to tell Noel?
He was instantly distracted when she started talking again, completely engrossed in her story. He immediately detected the change in her tone. Her voice was still angelic, but he felt the grief lining the sound of her voice. Embry's own face was grave, and upset for her, and he longed to make it better for her. He didn't know her Aunt Lucy, but she had obviously been important to her. "I'm so sorry, Gabs," he said, reaching out and touching elbow. If his touch did anything close to her as hers did to him, he knew he would be able to offer some relief. He felt at a loss when he saw her tears well up. He had never been the most eloquent person, and he couldn't think of anything that would sound right. He just wanted to make her feel better at all costs, but he was smart enough that it was too early to creep her out. It took all his control to not lean over and trap her in a hug. "No..." he pleaded, grinning softly. "You are a girl."
He let her recover in silence, still fighting the urge to comfort her, but he was glad that she managed to keep herself bright and happy. His own smile returned with hers as she navigated the streets, happy that she found the silver lining in her family's loss. He wouldn't expect less from someone like her. He watched the glow in her face return, and was suddenly caught to be at the other end of the questions. He quickly averted his eyes to the road, knowing that he couldn't tell her the truth just yet. "Um... Not really busy, you know," he said mildly. Not completely true. "Just hanging out with some friends." Also true. "We just hang out at each other's house and goof around." Not quite true, but sort of... yes. He was losing confidence in what he was saying, and was suddenly preoccupied with the direction in which they were headed. "Right here," he told her, pointing to his house and noticing that the blinds were closed. "My mom's not here yet, but we can hang out until she gets here," he said hopefully, letting himself out the car.

Gabriella smiled gently as he called her Gabs, she hadn’t heard that one in quite awhile. There was only one other person that called her that on a regular basis, Aunt Lucy. Rather than make her upset it made her even more joyous, number one her memory sill lived on, and two, she was surprised how well they seemed to get a long even after years of not seeing one another. The last time she could remember seeing him was years ago, her 14th birthday if she remembered correctly.
His touch sent a wave of calm mixed with pure happiness, it made her elbow tingle. Her head snapped toward his direction, this was just plain strange. Like he could alter moods, she glared at him before looking at her mood ring. It had changed from the bright red meaning excitement, adventurous, and energized to blue green. A color that meant the inner emotions were charged, and somewhat relaxed. Before her eyes the mood ring had started going wacky.
“That’s it,” she laughed, “real funny Em how are you doing it?” She shook her head, there was nothing he could be doing that could possibly alter her own moods that was crazy talk. “Yeah, sometimes I forget that,” she laughed again at the girl comment. “Sorry, my brains just been foggy, since…never mind.” she giggled. She knew she probably sounded insane, it sounded odd enough to herself. How was she supposed to tell him she’d felt weird, but a really good weird since they met in the parking lot.
Gabriella nodded at his responses trying to ignore her own thoughts and give him her undivided attention. “Oh,” she said as she made the right. She had almost missed it, caught up in his words and her strange ideals. She pulled up to the home and shut off the engine. “That’s okay,” she smiled getting out and closing the car door behind her. “Unless your scared of being alone with me,” she joked as she followed behind him. She glanced at the ring once more, it was now a dark blue the color of love, and romance, it felt almost true. She looked up again, "I think it might be broken."

Genuine confusion played on Embry's face, and his eyes followed to the small piece of jewelry that she was referring to. It looked like a normal ring to him, simple and bright, just like her. But he wasn't sure what she was talking about... until he say it change color. "Is that one of those mood rings? Do they actually work?" He was suddenly intensely interested in what each color meant, but he had no idea? Was she as excited, elated as he was? Was she afraid to be alone with him? He wished he could know, but had no idea how to approach anything that was related to his wolf form. He was frustrated that he couldn't just tell her... couldn't he? No, that was insane. He would completely freak her out.
He smiled softly, still lost to what she meant. "Since what?" he asked. He wanted to know everything. He wanted to get to know her again and he wanted her to remember him for who he was, not what he had become, just in case he scared her. A smirk appeared on his face, despite the anxiety his mind was going over. "I'm not scared," he teased. "I can take you." He briefly remembered the last time they had butt heads, he smiled widely at the memory. They had been a little nuts, but at least they had always been friends. Looking again at the ring she was talking about, he couldn't help but ask. "What does the blue mean?"

Gabriella nodded, yeah it was a mood ring, and up until now it always worked quite accurately. She walked beside him up to the door of his home still staring at the suddenly dysfunctional silver ring on her finger. She’d had it for years and it had never gone bonkers like this, Gabby instantly wondered what made a mood stone stop functioning correctly. She looked up at Embry her smile reflecting his. “Yeah it’s always worked before. I think I might have broken it,” she laughed.
Hey eyebrows rose when he asked her the next question. She giggled, “so nosey,” she said and stuck her tongue out at him like a child. “What’s the opposite of allergic?” she asked him and cocked her head to the side. She was distracted though by his statement.
Gabby flexed her arm, “I’m tougher than I look.” She laughed. He should know by now not to categorize her, Gabby wasn’t afraid of much, and she wasn’t the most usual girl either. Her mind flashed back to the days when they were just kids and she prided in driving him nuts. She had cooled out sometime between 12 and thirteen, but that was probably due to the fact all her friends thought he was cute and she was afraid she was starting to agree.
Never the shy type but too embarrassed to look at him as anything other than a family friend she had kept her mouth shut about the small crush that had been forming. Now she wondered if he had noticed all those years ago… Gabby was awoken from her thoughts as he’s asked her what blue meant. She quickly looked at the ring in response and blushed slightly laughing as she spoke. “My ring thinks I’m in love with you.” She nodded as though it was nothing…what else was she supposed to say?
