Age: approximately 223 years old. Born February 1783, turned December 1804 at age 21. [She can pass for late teens and into early 30s if need be]
Appearance
Looks: Antonia is of average height and build, nothing spectacular there, but her hair is long and dark and lustrious, her features are very prominent and striking and not just because she is a vampire. Her eyebrows are slightly thick, her lips full and her eyes, which once were green in her human life, have been crimson red for more than two centuries. Like most vampires, her eyes seems to pierce the soul, be that a good or bad thing, and are usually void of emotion, as she rarely smiles anyway.
Scars, tattoos, other marks: Faint stretch marks across her stomach left over from giving birth in her human life.
Portrayed by: Katie McGrath
Personality and Stats
Basic Personality: Nothing really impresses her anymore. She is calm, cool and collected. Some may describe her as aloof, others as indifferent. When the outside party to a quarrel, she prefers to play the neutral role and hear both sides until she decides which side she will ally to or wait it out to see who is victorious. She has a clever mind and does love a good battle of wits from time to time, and when it is her in a rumble she doesn't like to get her hands dirty, though she will if it truly comes down to it. She enjoys the finer things in the world, aside from "dining" with the Volturi, but also clothes and jewelry and even technology. With her "aloofishness" and her passion for the finer things, she occasionally can give off an air of superiority or snobbery to humans, who usually see how beautiful she is and fancy she is and think she must be foreign royalty or some other wealthy aristocrat.

Car: Ford Mustang GT - the one material possession of hers she considers "simple"

History: She was born into this world as a human in February of 1783 to a coffee roaster and his wife, Thomas and Anna Bates, from Derbyshire, England as the oldest of four children; three younger brothers, not counting her oldest brother from her father's first marriage. As the only daughter, she was the apple of her father's eye. Unfortunately her father died before her wedding to Simon Adams, which devastated her, but was appreciative of her older half-brother Wright Bates giving her away.
After the wedding, they moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States where he was going to work as a ship's carpenter alongside his uncle who had stayed in the United States after the end of the war a couple decades before. Soon after, Antonia was pregnant with their first child but feeling lonely and homesick for England which was harder when Simon was off working in the shipyard. In July 1803, she gave birth to their daughter Mary Anna Adams and finally she had something to make her feel at home. Unfortunately, the following fall of 1804, their daughter took ill with pneumonia and died within a few weeks. Somehow, Antonia, who had tended to Mary, had not caught the illness, but Simon had and he became very ill. In her grief over losing her daughter, she did all she could to tend to Simon, but in the end she lost him as well.
Grief-stricken, heartbroken and alone, something in her snapped and she wandered out into the snowstorm where she passed out. When she woke up she was in pain, excrutiating pain and her senses were wobbly. She was starting to hear crisper, as she came out of her groggy state she noticed her vision was sharper as were her reflexes, and she sensed a man near her, who explained what happened: his name was Durbin, he had found her in the snow and brought her back to his home on the outskirts of Philadelphia and changed her into a vampire instead of letting her die of pnuemonia or simply freezing to death.
For the next couple of years, he taught her about being a vampire and the "rules" of the vampiric world, the order of things and such. She developed a slight mothering sense to her toward Durbin even though he was her creator, not the other way around which would be ironic, since while she was grateful toward Durbin for assisting her during her transformation though maybe not so much for changing her at the time, she could not reciprocate the love he felt for her.
Having had who the Volturi were explained to her by Durbin before leaving him, she set off for Europe to find her place in the world, knowing she couldn't stay with Durbin anymore and neither did she want to be alone. She traveled the world alone only a short while to take in the sights she had never seen and would've never been able to visit as a human until one day she finally found herself in Volterra, Italy and met with the Volturi. This was sometime during the 1820s; Antonia is not sure on the exact year she came to them as time seemed lost on her by that point.
While she has no gifts or abilities, her wit and loyalty to the Volturi has made for a pleasant stay with them and she has been with them since, aside from traveling away once in a while to see how the world has changed...and to do a little shopping.
Upon one such travel away from Volterra, in the 1850s, Antonia had found her way back to England, checking on her old homestead and seeing how her descendants were doing. She watched them from afar, not knowing who was who, but knowing they were the children and/or grandchildren of her brothers. One night during her visit to Derbyshire, she followed after who she could only assume was either a niece or great niece of hers when she came across another vampire who seemed intent on feeding of this distant relation of hers and the deep down human in her was mortified and convinced him to leave relation alone. Luckily there were enough other available victims for him to feed from, and this vampire, Richard, obliged her.
Almost immediately after her ability to thwart his meal of choice, she was quite aware at just how lovely he was to her eyes. She did not like feeling so unable to contain her attraction toward him that she became aloof and rather condescending toward him instead to mask what it was she was feeling. Following their initial meeting, they wound up spending days talking, hunting and getting to know each other; the attraction between them obviously mutual by this point and only growing. However, this trip to England had only been planned as a short one and she meant to return to Volterra thereafter. Though, before she left, she informed him of being a part of the Volturi, and invited him to visit or come back with her. Unfortunately, he turned down this offer, much to her surprise, due in part to a bad past experience with the Volturi in regard to the destruction of his sire a long time before, and the two parted ways.
It only took Antonia a day to return to Volterra and quite instantly she felt as if a part of her was missing. She had only been a vampire for forty years and with the Volterra for nearly thirty by this time and she was starting to wonder if she'd ever find a mate. While she had loved her husband in her human life, it had always been the love of a best friend, nothing so passionate as the gravitational pull she had felt toward Richard after those few days together. Though, it apparently didn't take long for Richard to second guess his decision as he showed up in Volterra and made his intentions known that he wanted to stay. With Antonia's help, he became a part of the guard, even without an ability just as she also had none.
The pair would go on to be mated for life, sharing in every moment of their existence together, admiring arts and sciences together, traveling away occasionally together, loving together.
