Never really knowing what triggered the transformation from human to wolf meant that Sam had a hard time pinning down what would set it off. Yet over the past couple of years the pack on the La Push reservation seemed to have doubled, if not tripled in size. Actually it would be more accurate to say Sam’s pack had grown, Jacob’s he wasn’t sure about; and acted as if he didn’t care.
It weighted on Sam’s mind that while he’d been angry at Jacob’s pack he may have been neglecting his own; often wondering how many new wolves had become while he was been bitter. Now more then ever it was time to band together as the brotherhood and pack that they were. Now as more blood suckers moved into the area for whatever the Cullen family was doing it was important to know and prepare each wolf. They were a pack and packs must support one another.
Gathering the pack wasn’t an easy task. Their secret must always be kept even from their own families in some cases. Sam had spread the word among the pack members he was sure of and now the scene was set. They would meet at his place for a cookout and gathering of the boys; Sam was seen as a big brother to those already in his pack and he hoped that would provide a cover for the gathering.
Food was the key ingredient he and Emily had prepared; wolves sure had a heck of an appetite. Now, with Emily out the way for her own safety Sam waited. He wasn’t sure who would be comfortable with their new breeding, who knew the legends or the responsibilities that went with the change, who knew about imprinting and the secrets and the bloodsuckers. It would be an afternoon or finding out for everyone, but Sam would welcome the new, unexpected members should there be any. And for the original pack members it was a chance to reconnect, regroup and bond.
Sam strode from the kitchen to the sitting room and back again pacing as he had been since Emily had left for Rayen’s 30 minutes ago. Same wasn’t about to risk a young pup getting out of control and injuring his love. Now he waited and wondered who would be the first to arrive his head glancing at the door with every noise.

Quil was very uneasy these last few days. Since Jacob had left the pack he felt completely torn. Jacob and Embry had always been his two best friends, and when Quil was the last of the trio to become a wolf they were all pack brothers. They were closer than ever. But now Jacob had left, he wasn’t his pack brother anymore, and Quil didn’t know what to do. Sam had always been Alpha. He was in Sam’s pack. He was a part of Sam’s family through Claire, and always would be. But he and Sam hadn’t become friends really until they were pack brothers. They didn’t have the history he and Jacob shared. But Sam would always be in his future with Claire.
As Quil headed over for the meeting he felt uneasy, not feeling the sense of belonging he did when Jacob was there. Quil had always been happy about changing, because it allowed him to be in on the secret, but now felt on the outside again, or maybe Jacob was on the outside, because he didn’t hear Jake’s thoughts anymore. But it made Quil wonder where he was supposed to be.
As Quil reached Sam and Emily’s house he knocked lightly before walking in, not waiting for an answer. He was here often enough that it was practically his second home, the knock was just for politeness sake. He smiled when he saw Sam. “Hey, anything I can help with?” He asked, seeing that he was the first one to show up.

Planning a gathering like this was hard, Sam didn’t know if it was a party or a meeting or a meet and greet. What should he call this? Wondering who would turn up was killing him too. Sam had been so out of the loop recently over the whole Jacob thing it was hard to know who to expect at this thing.
The Jacob thing; that was the best thing to call it when a close friend and pack brother ran off and started his own pack because he didn’t like the way you did things. Sam was still reeling over the whole thing, and was still carrying resentment over it. Tonight was about meeting new pack brothers and a fresh start. Now more then ever it was needed with the blood suckers in the area.
It should have been easy to guess who would be the first to arrive. Ever the loyal pack brother Quil. He was more like family since imprinting on Sam’s niece Claire almost a year ago. Sam looked up at the knock on the door and then the entrance of his buddy. Returning the smile Sam spoke; “Hey Bro.” Sam said crossing the room to the other man. “No all’s done thanks, just waiting for the others to show.” Sam said glancing around the room at the stuff set up.
“You know any of the others that are going to be here?” Sam asked. He already felt at ease having another pack member there especially one that was an old pro at it, like her was. “The rez have a lot of new boys?” Sam asked, knowing that Quil would understand the concept of the question.

Quil nodded as Sam explained that everything was set up, but he was just waiting on the others. It felt weird knowing that Jacob wouldn’t be coming. It was hard to believe that their pack was split, and that they’d be having a pack meeting today that didn’t concern his best friend. “Yeah, I think I’m a little early” He said, not wanting his Alpha to worry about the others not showing up, they all knew better than to not come. Hopefully they wouldn’t be too late.
“Yeah I think there are a couple new ones that I haven’t met yet at least” Quil said, wondering if all the new wolves immediately went to Sam after changing or if this would be the first time Sam was meeting some of them as well. “I think I heard that Cole’s bringing his younger brother, and didn’t Paul say he had a friend who’d be coming?” He said trying to remember. A lot of the wolves had fought together already, some multiple times. Most recently there was the fight against Victoria and the newborns. He knew that with all those vampires that even more of the LaPush boys had been called upon.

Not entirely sure of what significance the alpha of the pack had, Elan was quite confused about this whole meeting of the pack thing. He understood their need to be organised, to make sure there was at least a couple of them patrolling La Push at all times, but beyond that he didn’t really get what this meeting was all about. He had to admit that outside of his time that he spent phased into his wolf form, he wasn’t too close to his wolf brothers – except Cole, of course. He knew even less about this whole Jacob thing. He had never been phased at the same as the guy and so he didn’t miss his voice from the mix, nor anyone else that had deserted for the smaller pack.
“Cole, is this really… necessary?” he asked, just at the edge of the forest, both still in human form. He knew that the meeting was soon, but he felt a jolt of insecurity hit him – something that affected him surprisingly often, though he never liked to show it to anyone other than his brother, Cole, or his beloved imprintee, Kaori. He fidgeted uncomfortably as he kicked his shoes off; the two brothers lived on the other side of the Reservation from Sam’s place and so phasing to run over made the most sense. Elan looked up at his brother, an unsure expression on his usually confident, almost cocky, face. He knew he wasn’t the largest of the wolves on the Rez, he was probably around the smallest and neither was he fast or particularly skilled – he was worried that he would show up the pack, make them seem weak, but he was glad that he wasn’t sharing these particularly depressive thoughts with his big brother.

“Early’s fine.” Sam told Quil flatly. It wasn’t Quil’s arrival or even his time that was distracting Sam, it was the thought of the other wolves and the person who would be missing from today’s meeting; Jacob. Sam felt Jacob’s absence more then he let one. It wasn’t just the physical absence he felt, but he felt the loss of Jacob’s voice in his mind in wolf form; almost even missed him.
New ones? Sam wondered if the appearance of the newborns they had recently fought and patrolled against would have awoken the gene in other boys on the rez; who was now the question. “Great, another hot head like Paul.” Sam complained as he picked a chip out of the bowl on the table. “So Cole’s one of us, and his brother?” Same nodded at the thought himself, brothers in a pack could be trouble if they weren’t close or even if they were. “What about you, you got anyone tagging along?”
Sam wandered back to the window and glanced out at the rez, he saw no one yet. “Any other girls? We got anymore Leah’s?” He asked a slight smile as he turned back to Quil.

“It’s necessary cause Sam says it is” Cole told his brother. Cole didn’t doubt or challenge his alpha’s orders. He assumed they served a person and were to be respected. So Cole did as he was told. “I think its just kinda to account for everyone…see how many of us there really are now” He said with a slight shrug. That was all he had been told. He did wish he had more information. Social gatherings weren’t Cole’s strong point as he didn’t have much experience with them. Elan was better with that, even though Cole had a little longer to get used to the wolf thing.
Cole saw how unsure Elan seemed, and it seemed so odd to see his brother this way. Cole knew he had to step up and act like the older brother now. He put his hand on his brothers back , patting it lightly. “Don’t worry, we can hang out in the back of the room if you want…besides you’re better at parties than me anyway” He said, though he didn’t know if this really would be considered a party. Cole took off his shoes and put them over to the side by one of the larger trees so he would know where to come back to retrieve them. The rest of his clothes he tied around his ankle to bring with him to Sam’s as he phased into the light colored wolf.

As Quil watched his pack leader’s face in human form, he didn’t need to be inside his head to know what, or who rather he was thinking of. They had gotten close enough that Quil knew that Jacob was on Sam’s mind as much as he was on Quil’s. But as a pack member, and friend almost family of Sam’s, he felt it was his job to keep Sam’s spirits up as much as possible. Whether that was listening to him, or just giving him a good distraction, he’d let Sam figure that out.
Quil nodded as Sam mentioned having another hot head like Paul. “I can only assume that if the two of them are friends, their personalities must be similar…no offense” He said, knowing Sam and Paul had gotten close before Quil did with the rest of them, since he was one of the later ones to change.
Quil nodded as he mentioned Cole and his brother. “Yeah, both of them, different mothers, but apparently blood was strong enough from their dad” He said, having heard the rez gossip. Quil laughed lightly as Sam asked if he had anyone tagging along. “Everyone I knew changed before me” He said, then realizing that would bring up memories of Jacob, he quickly changed the subject “But I did tell Issy to remind her imprinter he was required to be here. Leo Stone”
“I don’t think there’s anyone else quite like Leah” Quil smirked shaking his head slightly. “But not that I know of”

Having this group gathering, meeting, cook out; whatever it was only made Sam realize that he had lost a pack member and was at risk of losing others. Jacob was a pack brother and he had left the pack and Sam. It wasn’t just the leaving Sam had a hard time dealing with, it was the betrayal and the disrespect. Sam wasn’t sure she could ever think of Jacob and not be angry and hurt.
“Well, maybe he’s not as bad as Paul.” Sam said agreeing with Quil’s sentiment about Paul and his friend. Sam had known Paul for years even before their change, true it was their pack brotherhood that made them closer, but even that couldn’t make him more comfortable with Paul’s hot head nature. “Maybe now he’s got Rachel he’ll calm down a little.” Sam shrugged knowing that Emily calmed him marginally and wondering if Clare had that effect on Quil.
As Sam looked at the young man in his front room he couldn’t help but still feel a little worried that this man had imprinted on his young niece. Slowly he was getting more and more used to it, and it certainly helped that he was able to be close by when Quil was with Clare. I, also, helped that he knew Quil and liked him not just as a pack brother.
“Guess their dad might have been part of the last pack.” Sam mused thinking out loud and not really sure. He hadn’t really met the brothers properly and didn’t know their heritage, though their change made it clear they were at least part Quilute. Sam laughed at Quil commenting on been one of the later boys to change. “At least you had us there when you did change.” Sam said trying not tot think about others that had changed and how it happened.
Sam knew the Stone family, but didn’t know much about Leo. ‘And Issy is his imprintee?” Sam asked wanting to clarify what stage all his pack were at. “Does he know about the whole imprinting thing?” Wanting to know how much he was going to have to explain for the almost cub like pack.
Quil was right, no one was quite like Leah; thankfully. And female wolves were even rarer, something else Sam was thankful for. “What about Leo Stone’s twin sister? She one of us?” Sam as curiously wondering how the gene passed with twins.

Paul stretched and thumped at his alarm clock as it woke him up at this obscene hour. With a small growl he pulled himself to his feet and shook his head a little, cursing his strength as another alarm clock bit the dust. He frowned a little as he looked at his wristwatch, which told him it was actually just getting to early evening and he wondered why he was waking himself at this hour. He wasn’t patrolling, no one was, because… party! Sam’s party, that was it. That worked he began to pick up his clothes from the ground and pull them back on, not being one to over-dress for any occasion to date.
He yawned again as he slammed the front door shut behind him, ignoring the torrent of yells that it heralded from his parents. That was secret-keeping for you, though. He didn’t have the trouble that Embry had at the beginning, but that was just because his relationship with his family was already on tender hooks anyway. Now, though, between the time he spent patrolling and the time he spent with his new imprintee, Rachel Black of all people, his parents’ short tether had been cut. Ah well, at that moment, he didn’t care. He began to wander down the road, his shirt in his large hand, just a pair of ragged jeans hanging of his hips – he didn’t even have shoes on (he’d run out).
“Connor, hurry up,” he muttered to himself as he smacked his friend’s door and he shifted his muscular shoulders in an attempt to work out a kink. He had told his friend that he would swing by his place on the way to Sam’s so they could go together, but that didn’t mean that Paul was any more patient when it came to allowing the other guy to answer the door.

Elan nodded slowly as Cole simply bent to the alpha’s authority and he wondered if he should be more like his older brother. It had been the same in school, though, but that was mostly because he could get away with playing up there when he was younger – nobody wanted to upset and when Elan had learnt of this fact he more than played it to his advantage. Of course, there had been major downsides to that, though, and it wasn’t without reason that he acted up or played the fool, but now he really didn’t have an excuse, it had just turned into habit. Still, he wasn’t entirely sure that Cole’s automatic response to anything the authority figure said was the way to go – he hadn’t experienced or heard of an alpha’s injunction yet. However, the explanation his brother gave did serve to satisfy Elan for now – he knew that there were far more wolves to this pack than he had initially thought and he also knew that he had not heard all their minds, or even met them in human form yet, so maybe this would be a good change to meet everyone. Plus, if this was strictly a human form shindig then most of them needn’t know how small he was as a wolf.
“Alright, I guess that makes sense,” he conceded, shrugging a little, trying to add some nonchalance to the mix of his current mood so he didn’t seem quite so needy. It seemed that since his brother had been well, properly well, Elan had been asking more and more of him for guidance, to be the older brother in a way that he never really had in the majority of their childhoods. He nodded again, bowing his head a little in an ashamed manner as Cole put his warm hand on to his back. “Thanks, Bro. But he parties on the beach, they’re easy, they’re just… people…”
Falling silent, he mused over how much of a different light he cast over his pack brothers than normal human beings. He knew that he had absolutely nothing to be self-conscious about, and definitely had nothing to fear, but these wolf brothers of his… they were in a whole different ball game. He shook his head a little, trying to dislodge his thoughts before following Cole’s lead and phasing into his scrawny wolf shape, hoping that his thoughts wouldn’t disrupt his brother’s own. You know the way, right?

Driving home from Forks, Gray sung lightly to the song on the radio, his low, bluegrass styled voice resonating oddly with the latest pop track that had hit the airwaves. Interestingly (to him at any rate), he was feeling strangely chipper that evening, though he knew that was probably owed to lack of sleep. It was a bit of a hassle keeping up with the real world when your wolf self was required to be in service at the oddest times and that had meant that he was tallying up his 39th sleepless hour to date. Picking up an energy drink from the cup holder, he drained the last of it between songs and threw the empty can on to the passenger seat floor, where it clunked against another half dozen that had kept him going throughout the work day.
A few minutes later found him at the boundary of the reservation and he slowed the car appropriately, pulling out a hastily scrawled address for where Sam lived. The party or gathering, or whatever it was supposed to be, that evening ought to be an interesting experience as Gray had yet to meet probably half of the pack as it stood. He was a little confused over the Jacob situation and the splitting of the pack, but as it had grown exponentially since his own transformation a couple of years ago, he had not been patrolling at the same time as he or the other wolves that had jumped ship for a long time. He wondered, idly, as he pulled up near to the house, whether there would be any other guys there that were his age. At twenty-six, he knew that he was, to date, the eldest of the wolves that he had been patrolling with. Even Sam was a little younger than he, though he had so much responsibility on his shoulders that he appeared to be just as mature.
A few moments later, after getting out of his old Corvette and throwing a few of the empty energy drink cans into the nearby bin, he began to wander towards the house, his long strides not taking much time to eat up the distance. Raising his large fist to knock on the door, Gray stood back casually, a rather whimsical expression on his face. Unlike some of others, the younger members of the pack, he was absolutely at ease in most any company – maybe not a gaggle of bloodsuckers – and though he did not know whether Sam expected them just to walk in or not, he knew that he could fit into any crowd at a push.

As he approached the unfamiliar front door, Ike couldn’t ignore the growing sense of nervousness that was nagging at the back of his mind. He had no idea what this was all about, only that there were more of ‘his kind’ on the reservation and that they had been invited to meet that day, by the alpha of the pack, no less. He had only been a wolf for just over a month, and he was still getting used to the whole ‘get mad, get fuzzy’ deal , and now he was about to meet more like him. He didn’t know whether to be honoured that he’d been invited, terrified that he might be in trouble or something else, but what he did know was that he was most likely more nervous than he’d ever been in his life. Fishing a drowning kid out of a pool was no bother, running into a burning building was a piece of cake, facing a room full of complete strangers that could turn into giant predators that could easily tear him to pieces in a matter of seconds? Not so much.
Moving to run his fingers through his hair, he brought his hand down abruptly with a quiet chuckle, remembering that there wasn’t any hair there to ruffle. He’d only just cut off the shaggy locks a few days previous and it was still a nervous habit to try to tug on it whenever he was stressed, and boy was he stressed. It wasn’t like him to care much what people thought of him, never really worrying about whether his actions made people think he was rude or soft, or even crazy, but these guys were, apparently, his pack members, and he assumed it was best to keep on their good side so he wanted to make a good impression. He might be spending a lot of time around these people in the near future.
Reaching the door, he raised a fist, knocking on it twice before realised he had barely even touched the wood. Rolling his eyes at his own tentativeness, he drew back his hand, taking a deep breath and knocking again, firmly. As he waited to find out his fate, whether or not they would like him, or even if he was in the right place, he muttered to himself. “Ike Foxe...too abrupt. E’Kyel Foxe...still too rough. Hey, I’m Ike Foxe, nice to meet you.” Finally finding the right words, he smiled slightly to himself, raising his eyes from the ground once more as he waited for someone to answer. At least he might get through the first few seconds without sticking his foot in his mouth, the rest remained to be seen.

Nash road in his old truck over the dirt and gravel streets in LaPush down to Sam's house. He had to lie to his aunt and uncle again to get them to watch Travis that night. They never would have allowed him to just go out if he said he was going to a party, and they wouldnt have understood about the pack. Nash had to tell them that a fuze broke at the shop where he worked, and that he'd have to go down and do repairs or else nothing would work in the morning.
Nash didnt understand why they had to have this meeting. They all knew that Jacob left, and that Leah and Seth had followed after him immediately. It was a shame the pack had been divided, but what did it have to do with the rest of them? Nash wondered if they were just all going to be in for a scolding, or be given a direct order never to leave...or maybe Sam had decided the pack was too big and some of them would be told to go to Jacob, that would be odd.
Nash parked his truck by the side of the road in front of Sam's house. He could see Graham standing by the door and a younger wolf walking up behind him who he recognized from the reservation but hadn't yet had any patrols with. Looked like their were new members to meet tonight. Nash got out of his truck and headed to the door seeing them waiting after knocking. "Hey guys"

“Yeah that’s true, you can’t judge a person by who they hang out with” Quil said, not wanting to sound prejudiced in any way. He really didn’t mind Paul too much anyway, it was just his temper that could get the best of him. Plus there was the fact that Quil knew that Paul was very vocal about his distaste over Quil’s imprinting on Claire. He was glad that at least Sam was coming around to the idea, even if just a little. “Imprinting does wonders to you, that’s for sure” He seconded Sam’s statement that perhaps Rachel would have a calming effect on him.
Quil shrugged as Sam mentioned how their father might have been part of the last pack, “Or grandfather, with how long the Cullens have stayed away.” He suggested. Quil nodded with a smile as Sam said how he had them with he changed. “Yeah, I was lucky, I was just glad to be let in on the secret”
Quil nodded as Sam asked about Issy being Leo’s imprintee. Isabelle and Quil had grown up as friends. Quil had been one of the few people her father would let her see. “Yeah, he imprinted on her, but I’m not sure how much he or she knows about imprinting, I haven’t really spoken to Leo much” he admitted. “As far as I know his sister hasn’t changed, at least not yet”
Quil turned his head as he heard the knock on the door. “Looks like we have more party guests”
