Elaine looked up at him. "No I would not even dare to gray. Sorry if you think black makes me look pale then you will not see me in gray. I look like an Elephant." She was not going to gray and that was the truth. She laughed though when he said she was getting better.
"I guess I am but it has been three years so getting better would have to do with me being away from that town and anything that would remind me of him. So once I got to thinking about it. He is dead he not coming back." Elaine started to pick up her plate to get it out of the way. "You threw with your food I will take it back there to get washed off and get you your check."

Mike laughed, picturing her as an elephant in gray. "Hmm," he mumbled, "Maybe your right. No gray." He watched her get up and offer to take his plate. "Sure, thanks."
"Three years?" he questioned in disbelief. "He must have been really close," he muttered, "I'm sorry about your loss." He couldn't imagine who you'd have to lose to throw you in a depression for three years.
He could imagine getting really depressed with losing your parents, but she said she still had both of hers. And she looked too young to be married, but he could be wrong. Mike didn't want to pry and ask her flat out about who she had loss, so he didn't say more.

Elaine smiled. "your welcome." She walked back and put the dishes up and came back with a recites. "here." She then sat down. She liked having Someone to talk to even if it was a boy she had not talk to in like every.
"Yes he was really close and thanks for being so nice to me. The only other person in this whole town that has even thought about talking to me was Angela. so I was wondering you want to do that shopping trip. You know so I an not only in black." She laughed. She liked having someone to talk to.

Mike took the receipt and shoved it in his jeans pocket. He leaned back in his seat, pushing the chair so that it was only standing on it's back two legs. Something he would surely have gotten scolded for if he had been doing it at school.
He could see that Elaine wasn't going to spill anymore information on the guy she had lost. So he wasn't going to push it. He listened to her talk about Angela Weber. He ran his right hand through his pale blond hair, which he now styled in gelled disarray. "Oh yeah, Ang is pretty cool. I've known her for a while. She's nice, quiet too," he commented.
He chuckled at her mention of a possible shopping trip. Internally, a small part of him groaned at the thought. But he had told Elaine that it wouldn't bother him, so he was going to stick to his word. "Ah, so I convinced you, eh?" he smiled. "Sure, I'll go shopping with you. I'll let you know, I've never gone shopping with a girl," he told her, "I hope you're not the type that spends hours upon hours staring at themselves in the mirror trying to find the perfect thing to wear. Only to leave the store empty handed." He laughed at the thought, picturing Jessica Stanley, his ex-girlfriend, annoyingly doing something like that.
"When do you not have to work?" he asked with a smirk. He recalled what she had said earlier in their conversation, about not being able to go shopping.

Elaine looked at him. She was glad that someone wanted to go shopping with her. She really did not want to go shopping with a girl that would do that.
Elaine shakes his head. "Oh no I would not do a thing like that. You see I find things in my size and buy it that is all." She then stood up and started to pack her backpack things. "The first day I have off is Thursday."
She smiled thinking about what to do. "well Ang is the first one that actually talk to me. It was on the first day that I was here working. I was the only one in the store besides her."

Mike laughed. "Good thing you aren't," he told her, "I may have had to go back on my word." He stood up, pushing his chair in.
He looked at her when she told him her next day off. "Gee, Thursday?" he questioned. That was week away. "Alright," he told her, "Thursday it is." He smiled at the new girl he just made friends with. She wasn't too bad, actually really nice.
"Oh really," he said when she mentioned Angela again, "Angela is usually quiet herself. I'm surprised you two actually started talking to each other." He expected that both girls would be far too shy to even start a conversation together.
He looked at the door of the diner, and then glanced up at the clock that hung on a nearby wall. It was getting pretty late, he didn't have to work today, but knew his mom would worry if he didn't get home soon. "Well, I guess I'll see you around school?" he questioned.

She smiled. "well fine I will see you Thursday. You will be buying the clothes though since you never paid for the meal and I have to cover it for you. So Sheriff Swann does not drag you in." She laughed joking with him. She knew he would but forgot. She seen him in here eating before.
She then thought about how he was shocked her and Angela started to talk. "well really I had to talk to her. I was her waitress and she just thought it would be nice to talk to me while we ate. The truth is I doubt she is as close to me as you are now. She does not know why my mom kicked me out. She just knows I was."

"I'm good friends with Chief Swan," he told her, laughing. "I'm not afraid of him." He hoped she wouldn't tell him about that comment. In truth, Mike was a tiny bit afraid of the guy.
"Yeah, see you Thursday, if not sooner," he smiled. "And you don't have to do anything," he said, "You just chose to be nice I guess." He started walking toward the exit. He turned back toward her as he reached the door, one hand sat on the handle. "Next time, I guess I'll let you know more about myself I guess. Since this time we talked about you. It'll be my turn to spill. Although my life isn't really all that interesting," he smiled, waved, and walked out the door.
The rain was falling harder now, as was expected. He quickly jogged to his truck and jumped in the drivers seat. As he started his car he thought about the previous conversation, and the new friend he just made. Mike was sure that he now knew and was friends with everyone at his high school. He thought of it as quite an accomplishment.

Elaine sat there at the cash register putting money in there for both of them. She was shocked she did. She just meet him and already buying him food.
She was glad to he had made her feel happy. That was something she had not felt in a long time and it was great to get it. She had felt cared for.

OOC: I hope this is okay. Rather than open up another thread entirely, I thought it would be better to just continue with in this one as it's still on the same time line, between the same two characters, and essentially about the same thing. If it's a problem just let me know. ------- It was Thursday afternoon, class had just been released, letting the students go to lunch. Mike roamed the hallways of the schools, occasionally yelling out a "Hi" or lifting his hand at someone.
It didn't take him long to find his locker, there were only about 350 plus lockers in the school, so it was easy to find his. Mike threw his belonging in his locker with very little care, and slammed it shut. As he turned he recalled in his head who he needed to find. Elaine Rhodes. He and her had an agreement. They were supposed to go shopping together. The thought of shopping made Mike cringe; he now found it hard to believe he had agreed to this.
He stalked off toward the lunchroom to find her. As he entered the lunchroom, and stood in line, he let his blue eyes rove the tables. There were a lot of people already at their tables. Most of the people at his table (Angela Weber, Jessica Stanley, Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Alice Cullen to name a few) were already seated. He was surprised to not see Elaine anywhere in the lunchroom. He shrugged and turned to face the front of the line. Mike figured she may just be running late, or that he had gotten here earlier than he thought.
Or maybe she didn't come to school today, he thought to himself.

Elaine was standing at her locker. She was staring at it. She could not believe she had agreed to go shopping for clothes other then black. She knew it would end up scary. She was not even sure what to get since it had been 3 years since the last time she had wore something other then black. "well here goes nothing maybe we can meet in the cafeteria and I can tell him I can't make it things have come up. Ya that what I will do."
She grabbed her bag and started to head to the cafeteria once there she went and grabbed some fruit, salad, and something to drink and went to sit at her normally table she had sat at. She was used to no one sitting there so it had become a normally thing to do. Get food, eat, then leave for class. "okay i can't make it that all I have to say. He is a guy he will understand."

Mike grabbed some pizza and a soda as his nutritious lunch choice and turned to glance around the lunchroom again. He was shocked to see Elaine already seated, he must have missed her entering the cafeteria.
He passed his usual table as he headed to hers, taking a seat across from her. "Hey," he muttered, "How are you?" He took a bite of his food, waiting for her to answer. He looked at her face as he chewed, there was something about her expression that had him worried.
"You aren't canceling on me?" he accused. Certainly Elaine had no other plans, and he was sure she didn't have work. There was no way he was going to let her worm her way out of this one, no matter how much he didn't want to go shopping himself.

Elaine looked at him. "Well I was going to. I got to thinking I have never went shopping for things other then black so I would not know what to buy. Your a guy which if I am correct you don't go shopping all the time either."
Elaine then took a bite out of her salad and looked at around. She was trying to make up an excuse. "That and well something has come up so I can't go. Really I want to but can't." She faked a smile trying to get out of it. *I hope that he believed that."

"Don't lie," he said between a bite of his pizza. It was obvious she was just trying to get out of going. "You're not going to stay in the dark clothes forever."
He took a drink of his soda before talking again. He looked up at her with his blue eyes. "You're right. I don't go shopping unless I have to. I dread it actually. But we had an agreement. And now I have to buy you at least an outfit since you did buy me food the other day. How hard can shopping be? You just go in, find something you like in your size, buy it, and go out," he told her. He shrugged his shoulders as he took the remaining bite of his food.
There was no way he was going to let her convince him otherwise. He wanted to help her get out of her depression, and first step was getting her out of the dark. "If you cancel on me now, it's going to happen eventually. Can't avoid me for long," he said.

Elaine smiled taking some of the fruit she had and looking at her. "well hate to tell you shopping is really worse then you think. See you have to make sure the pants match the shirt, shoes, and jewelry. Then it has to fit perfectly not to tight not to lose. So it is actually harder then you think. I really do have something to do. Dad is going to have a big sale on some of the things he built during his free time so I have to help get that ready. " She knew that her dad did not have one but she had to think of some reason to get out.
"So see I am rather busy. We will have to reschedule if you don't mind. Dad really needs the money. Plus I am the only one around to help him out when he needs it." She then went back to eating hoping that Mike would catch onto what was really going on with her busyness.
