Listening to his quick recap of his childhood Dal nodded knowing there must be more to it, but giving him time and in return answering his question about her. “Well I grew up with my parents and older brother til they all took off to New York a few years ago. I couldn’t leave, I loved Aussie too much so I stayed. I wasn’t responsible enough to live on my own, according to my dad, so I moved in with my aunt. Then earlier this year I had enough of the same stuff and applied to come on this exchange. That’s it.” She smiled giving a quick recount of her own life, but skipping lots.
As Nash explained himself to her she listened intently to him. Imprinting and soul mates. It all sounded so grand and almost unbelievable, if she didn’t feel what he explained she might not have believed it, but she did feel it and she did believe it. A part of her told her he was telling the truth and she nodded as he spoke. “I’m your Imprintee?” She asked testing out the word with its alien feel on her tongue. “I thought it was just love at first sight.” she said hoping he realized she’d felt the same when they met too.
After he spoke she laid quiet a minute letting it settle in. “What else do it mean? Soul mates, that’s pretty big. Are the other legends true?” She asked curious if this one was couldn’t some of the others hold truth too.

Nash smiled as he listened to her quick recap of her life. Both of them had been brief in their descriptions. He knew that his mind was focused elsewhere on the legends, but still enjoying hearing her talk about herself. He did notice that both of their stories had a bit of sorrow to them, parents leaving them behind, being alone, but taken in by other family. They were very similar in so many ways.
Nash wished he knew what she was thinking as he explained everything about imprinting. Did she think he was crazy? Neurotic? A stalker who was obsessed with her? Or did it help her to clarify the way she was feeling? Daylan had told him that Kele had fel the same way, but maybe not all imprintees did. He was sure Claire Titan didnt have any imprintee feelings, or at least he hoped not.
He nodded slowly as she repeated questioningly that she was his imprintee. "Yes" He responded, hearing her say she thought it was just love at first sight. "Its stronger than that. The bonds of imprinting are stronger than love, they last a lifetime and never go away or get weaker."
He nodded again as she said how it was pretty big. "It is pretty big, you are my soul mate...it means I'll always do anything to make you happy, and to keep you safe. I'll never hurt you, and never leave unless you want me to." He told her. He looked at her a little fearfully as she asked about the other legends being true. Slowly he nodded, afraid of her reaction. "Yes, they are..."

Lyndal’s mind tried to process everything he said and make sense of it all that Nash was saying. She knew she felt everything he seemed to be explaining, but she’d never though it could be linked to a legend or a deeper meaning. Her mind swam with the information.
Stronger then love, it sounded like too much to hope for, but she saw the truth in his eyes. “Stronger then love is certainly what I feel for you, if there were words for it.” She said slowly hoping he wouldn’t think she was making it up not when it was genuinely how she felt for him. “A life time. Wow. How? Why?” She questioned shifting in the bed so their faces were level and so she could stare into his eyes as they spoke. It wasn’t that she didn’t want the love and feeling, she just wanted to understand.
“I never want you to leave, you know that. I can hardly bare to be away from you for a day. I knew it was more then love that did that.” She said admitting it to him as she’d thought to herself. She saw fear and a with holding almost in his eyes as she asked about the other legends. She was eager to know, eager to see where it all lead. “Tell me. I can take it and I’m not afraid with you here.” She said covering all the bases he could be worried about.

Nash felt terrified as he lay there, even with her right beside him, he was scared this was the last time it would happen. If she didnt accept what he was saying and take it well she might just run. She could head back to Australia and he might never see her again. He hoped he could convince her that all of it was a good thing, and that she didnt have to be afraid of him.
"There are words for it" He said hopefully, thinking she was going along with it. "We call it imprinting. You're my imprintee, the love of my life" He nodded as she questioned about it being a lifetime and asked how and why. "It's not completely understood why, but some think its to guarantee that our genes get passed on. It happens the first time some Quileutes see the person their meant to be with, but not all of us imprint. I was one of the lucky ones"
Lyndal's reassurances were only a little bit relieving to Nash as she said how she never wanted him to leave. He didnt know if she'd feel that way when she knew the second half of his secret, what he was. He did smile hearing the words that she knew it was more than love too, she had felt it. "I dont want you to be afraid, not of anything when I'm here...and not of me either" He said tentatively. "Do you remember how I told you about the protectors of our tribe? I'm one of them..." He said wondering if she'd put together the connection that he was admitting to shapeshifting as well.

There was so much honesty in Nash’s words, Dal could hear the sincerity in his words, but her mind was trying to take it in and access it rather then weight up the honesty. Earlier he’d touched on the legends, but then she’d never even assumed it could be real let alone that it would apply to the man she loved. She wanted to hear more, to understand it better and in turn understand him.
As they spoke more about it Lyndal smiled and nodded glad that it wasn’t just a one sided love at first sight, but that it was deeper and something he could explain with words that made sense. “Imprintee. Love forever. I like both those things, that’s pretty cool.” She said with a board smile. “I mean its romantic and beautiful, sorry I’m not saying this as it really feels. Its bonza for real.” She said feeling totally in eloquent and every part of the teenager she was.
As he went on to explain what an imprintee was and what it mean Lyndal felt a cheeks blush at what his words implied towards and she wondered what he hadn’t imprinted on Travis’ mum. Before she could sensor her words they spilled out in her tired state. “What about Travis’ mum? Was she your imprintee too?” she asked her voice neutral and not feeling any jealousy just wanting to know. “So Day and Kele too?” She inquired.
“Nothing scares me when you’re here. I wasn’t so scared in my nightmare when I knew you were close, not really.” She said wondering where the rest of the talk was going and what he was trying to warn her and prepare her for. “Protector? Didn’t you say they were wolves? I thought you mean like totems or something. Nash I don’t get it.” she said looking apologetic and confused.

Nash smiled with relief and joy as Lyndal seemed to be able to accept the imprinting, even saying the words he used to describe it sounded nice and like things she liked. "It is pretty cool. I just feel lucky to have experienced it" He told her honestly. "And it is romantic and beautiful too' He said then laughing as she called it bonza, a term he had heard her use before and assumed was aussie slang for something good.
"I didnt fully explain it" He said knowing since he was telling her everything, she should know it wasnt just anyone that could imprint. "Not anyone in our tribe can imprint like this...its only those of us who are protectors of the tribe, who have the blood of the legends...after we've changed, the next time we see our soulmate, or the first time like with you, since I'd already changed...thats when the imprinting happens. Not all of us are lucky to have it..."
Nash felt a bit nervous and unsure as she asked about Travis' mom, something he had been confused about for a long time. "No, you only have one imprintee, one soulmate...and when I knew her, I wasn't a protector yet" He said finding it easier than saying wolf, since he wasn't sure she had connected that part yet, or was grasping it. He nodded and smiled again as she figured out that Day and Kele were also imprintees. "Yeah, they are too"
Lyndal then questioned him about the wolves, and he could see she was still figuring it out. It scared him even though she responded so well to everything else. There was fear in his eyes mixed with sadness that he may not be able to prevent her from being upset by this, or even hatingg him for it. "The protectors are wolves" He told her. "Dal...please don't be scared....there's a pack of us, but we're good, not like the movies, we keep the reservation safe"

As Lyndal said about her liking the term she saw the relief on Nash’s face and intern relaxed herself, she noticed it was like that a lot that she’d react to his moods or presence. She joined his laughter feeling a lot more at ease now it was all in the open.
She knew there had to be more to it all or that she simply wasn’t grasping it all, settling in she listened to Nash explain. “Changed into what? I don’t understand everything, but I’m trying.” She said hoping he wouldn’t be mad at her slowness. Hearing that he considered their imprinting lucky she smiled. “I think its more then lucky and I’m so glad its happened. I want to understand it all.”
“So she and you never…imprinted?” She asked slowly knowing of course they’d done other things, but Dal hoped only she and Nash would share the bond of imprinting. “And now you’re a protector we’re together for life. Now that I really like.” She smiled brightly liking the idea of been in his arms and life for the rest of her life. When he confirmed her thoughts about Daylan and Kele she nodded, made sense because she knew how inlove they were.
As the conversation drifted towards the veil of legends and truth Lyndal tried even harder to concentrate and keep and open mind. “Wolves? A Pack of wolves?” She said nodding to punctuate and take in every words. “You’re a wolf who protects the tribe? Do you mean physically or just metaphorically?” She asked wondering if she was hearing it all or if this was maybe a metaphor for the strength and traits he now had.

"I know you're trying, and I'm sorry, I'm not being clear, I want you to understand though" Nash told her, feeling nervous about admitting the truth, and realizing part of why he wasn't being clear was because he didnt want to tell her yet. He didnt know what would happen when she learned the truth and he wanted to avoid it for as long as possible, while at the same time wanting her to know the truth about who and what he was. "I'm so glad this happened too" He assured her.
"No, I hadnt become one of the protectors when she was on the reservation so I wouldnt even have been able to imprint then. You're the only one" Nash assured her, his smile growing as she said she liked that they were together for life. "Thats the best part of all of this. Nothing will come in between us" He told her.
Nash nodded as she began working through what he was telling her, a pack of wolves. "About a year and a half ago it happened...I can change into a wolf, and so can some of the other guys in the tribe. We go on patrols around the reservation, protecting the border, then we phase back and come home. Its why I'm so warm to touch, and strong...its why I was able to imprint on you"

As Nash spoke again Dal could hear the nervousness in his voice a fact that made her worry a little. “No, I think I’m the one having issues. Its a lot to take in. Maybe I need coffee.” She said absently wondering if the caffeine would help or not. Everything that was going on was so much to take in, realize and except, but what she was hearing sounded amazing. She was more then glad it happened, she loved it and him.
It was more then a relief to hear that she was the only one and that Michelle hadn’t been his first imprintee. “Good. I guess changing makes everything different.” She stated with an understanding. Hearing nothing would come between them was even more of a relief and a reassurance, “I’m glad because I never want to be apart from you; ever.” She said moving closer to him and wanting to hug him tight.
Hearing that this was all for real stunned Lyndal and she pulled back a little to look at Nash. “You’re a wolf.” she said as a statement not a question. He was a wolf, part of a pack of wolves. His strength, heath and constant work and disappearances were all explained in that. “How? Why? I don’t…I mean I understand, but I don’t get it.” She said rolling onto her back and staring up at the dark ceiling.

"I dont think there's anything that would help make this easier to understand, its a lot to deal with...I know it is" Nash said remembering how he felt when he first changed into a wolf. It was hard to accept at first and came with a lot of mixed emotions, on top of just not understanding how it was even possible when it was supposed to be the thing of movies, not real life.
"It changed my life, and then meeting you, imprinting , that changed it all over again, in a way I never thought possible" It had been such an amazing feeling, and he knew had changed his life in that instant, as his life now revolved around her, as much as it did his son. It had been life altering for him. "I never want to be apart from you either"
Nash felt the first stab of pain as he watched her physically pull back a little as she looked at him, questioning what he had told her. "Not all the time...but I can phase...to turn into one" He told her slowly. He gave her space as she rolled away from him, onto her back as she began questioning. "Remember what I told you about the legends, the wolves protect our people from threats, there's something in our genes that gives us the ability to become what we need to in order to keep everyone safe...I know this is a lot to take in"

His reassurance and understanding made her nod, but she didn’t really feel help to know that nothing would help. Time, maybe time would help to make it feel better and make it easier to accept, but she wasn’t sure how much time it would take or how much she had. Would Nash wait for her to be ok with it? “It is a lot, but I want to get my head around it all.” She said with another nod, “I just need a bit of time.”
Meeting Nash had changed so much for Lyndal too, she’d never believed it would be possible to fall so completely and so quickly for someone, but she’d fallen for him and enjoyed every minute. “I never thought love at first sight was possible either, but now you’re telling me its imprinting?” Lyndal blinked several times feeling bits of disbelief or hard to believe moving in, she wanted to stay open minded. Been apart was the last thing she wanted, ever, the idea scared her. “I don’t think I could be away from you.” She said honestly.
A wolf, the legends, protecting the rez. It all overlapped and made sense, but no sense at the same time, it confused her and scared her a little too. “Phase?” Lyndal asked as she stared up in to the darkness of the room and thought about the definition of another word she’d not heard before. She wondered what it could mean, what all of it could mean. “From threats? What threats? Are the other things real?” The questions tripped out and Lyndal wasn’t truly sure how much she even wanted to hear, but she knew she had to ask. “Nash I want to be ok with this…its just a lot.” She said carefully not want to offend him, but not sure how much she could take in and really believe.

Nash was grateful to hear that Lyndal did want to try to understand everything, as complicated as this all was, she was making the effort. "Take all the time you need, I want to help you understand this" He told her, hoping she'd let him still be a part of her figuring it out and wouldnt be scared of what he was now that she knew.
He nodded as she questioned that love at first sight was imprinting. "For our people, the ones of us who are part of the pack, if we're lucky enough to we imprint on our soulmates. Not everyone gets that chance. I feel lucky every day that I met you and had that experience, to have someone who completes my soul....I know I could never be away from you either. It would destroy me"
He heard her confusion at his mention of the word phase. "Its when we change into our wolf form...its still us inside but we look different and are stronger. " He explained. Lyndal then began to ask about the threats. " The other things we discussed...from the legends, the cold ones, vampires...those are real...its what sets off our gene to make us what we are. If they weren't around, none of us would ever become wolves, its to keep our people safe" He nodded as she told him it was a lot. "I know...and I'm sorry..."

Having his support and understanding made all the difference to how she was coping with what he was saying, he sounded so honest and open that Dal couldn’t help but accept what he was saying. “How? When did this all happen?” she asked wondering how long everything had been happening. “Who else? Other then Day?” She knew Daylan was obviously one too, he and Nash shared everything.
“Not everyone imprints? Then what?” She asked wondering how it would feel not to feel what she felt every time she was near Nash or even thought about him. She wondered if the wolves felt less whole without their soul mate, a fact understand or imagine feeling. “Does it destroy those who don’t have that completion? I couldn’t imagine not feeling what I feel when I’m with you.” She said smiling at him in the dark.
Hearing that he actually changed into a wolf was still hard for her to accept, the idea of him actually becoming a physical wolf. “Does it hurt? I mean to change into a wolf?” She shook her head slightly finding that the most difficult to take in. “Have I ever seen you?” She wondered allowed wondering if she’d ever seen a wolf and mistaken it for a dog or some other canine animal.
“Vampires? There are vampires around here? Are we safe?’ She asked wondering how close they were and watch danger they were in. “Do they attack? Are you safe?” her words were rushed with worry as she turned her body back to him wanting to see him and know, even in their safe room, that he was safe. “What do you looked like as a wolf?”

"It happened a couple years ago, for me at least" Nash explained to her. " There's a group of guys on the Rez, Sam Uley...he's our alpha, the pack leader...Paul, Jared, Connor, Reid, Embry...even one girl Leah Clearwater, and her little brother Seth...there's some others too, the pack really grew a little over a year ago when there was lots of activity in the area, before you came" He explained not wanting her to get worried.
"The ones who don't imprint are like anyone else in the world, they don't fall apart not having it because they've never had it to miss. They can still fall in love, its just not the instant soulmate connection that we have...its human love" He told her, trying to be respectful of the ones who hadnt imprinted while explaining that what they had was stronger and could never be broken. He was glad that she didnt seem to wish away the feeling of imprinting but had embraced it.
"It feels a little weird changing, but there's no pain" He explained to her, knowing that if she saw him change it might look like something that would hurt. He shook his head as she asked if she had ever seen him. "No, at least I don't think so. We try to keep our distance so we don't scare people while we're patrolling...but I have watched you while I've been phased...I like knowing you're safe even when I'm not here"
He gently rubbed her back as she began asking about vampires not wanting to worry her. "You're safe here because me and the pack would never let them come on our land, its why we exist" He promised her. "But there are some in Forks...a group of them living as a family, but they say they only feed on animals, so we keep a treaty with them, to keep them off the reservation. But there have been others who do hurt people who have tried to come...and we've fought them all off, and we always win. We're built for it"
He gave a smile as he heard her curiosity come out as she asked what he looked like as a wolf. "Well, I'm one of the lighter colored ones. My legs and stomach are almost all white. I have darker fur on my back which lightens as it goes down...and my ears are white too, except for an outline of dark brown fur" He added with a grin, knowing he must sound silly.

Lyndal listened carefully in the dark to Nash’s explanation of how it all happened, she’d heard him talk of Sam before, but had just assumed he was a friend not the leader. The other names weren’t as familiar. “Activity? And What do you mean Alpha? He’s in charge of you?” She asked trying to understand everything, but knowing he words and question were falling out. “Whats your place in the pack?”
Human love. It made her happy to know that their love was different and certainly greater. “I’m glad you imprinted on me.” She said with a smile happy that her being with him gave him the completion he’d spoken of before. Been soul mates was an amazing feeling and one she found she cherished and needed as much as the air she breathed. “What else goes along with been a wolf?” She wondered if there was more then just the imprinting.
As she asked part of her wanted to see him change, but a part of her didn’t want to see it afraid of the pain she might see in his eyes even as he said it was painless. “Weird how?” She wondered. Although she’d never seen a wolf she wondered if he’d been close by, when he confirmed it she smiled. “You watch over me?” She inquired liking the idea of him been close by even when she didn’t know he was gone. “Do you get into trouble if you come to close to the rez?” She asked not wanting that to happen.
The rubbing of her back was calming and relaxing, but she knew it was to soothe the worries she was voicing about Vampires and his safety. She had no doubt he’d always keep her safe, but she worried about him. “Its not me I’m worried about, its you.” She admitted. He said in Forks and her heart hitched mid beat. “What about Laurie? If something happened to him Nash…I have to warn him to be careful.” She stammered scared for her brother. The was no bragging in his voice as he spoke of them beating other vampires, she knew he was stating a fact but she smiled. “I’m sure you’re a force to go up against.”
As he described the wolf side of himself she listened and tried to picture it still in two minds as to whether she’d want to see him. He sounded amazing. “You sound beautiful.” she admitted unsure if that was the right compliment. “One day will you show me? I want to see you. Would you know it was me? I mean do you still think as a human or is it all wolf?” She wondered if it would be like in the movies when men forgot everything when they changed to wolves.
